3rd Battle | UN: Childe / Video

[The video opens to a bright and smiling Childe, bandaged up across his head. The rest of the bandages are hidden beneath his clothing, because he's bundled up pretty well. You couldn't tell he was injured otherwise. He seems to be sitting on a small folding stool on a frozen lake, somewhere in the woods outside of the city. His fox Omen is holding up his Omni for him in its mouth, because this really isn't something so dire that he needs to be broadcasting it directly through other's Omens. A small fishing rod, probably the third of the size of a normal rod sits on the ice beside him, along with a few buckets, a very large backpack and some other equipment]

Hey there! As you can see, the frost and snow has really settled in now. Ah, it's breathtaking, isn't it? The way that the desolate landscape allows the snow to shine against that bright sky...but anyhow. It took a while to find the time, but I finally was able to find a few lakes out here that aren't completely dead. So, I thought it would be nice to share my favorite hobby with all of you.

[There's a hole that's clearly been drilled into the ice in front of him, a little smaller than he's used to, but it works.]

You see, where I come from, ponds and lakes are frozen over so greatly that you can tread on it as hard as you please, and the ice will never shatter. The fish in these lakes dwarf that of the ones that reside in your normal ponds. And in Snezhnaya, it's always been a great past time to go out ice fishing. It requires a little more patience, but I assure you it's always enjoyable. I'd be more than happy to go into detail about it. And if you want to come, well, I'm here now. Might as well take the few precious moments we have to relax, yes?

[He says that, though he still uses ice fishing to train. He pauses for a moment.]

Oh, and...I've already taken the time to remove some of those pesky traps left over from last month that were laid in the woods. Just the ones that are on the way to these lakes. They were of no consequence to me of course, and you should be able to travel to at least a few of the lakes around here without much issue. No guarantees though.

Ice fishing?

[After the chaos of last month, something as simple and homey as fishing sounded perfect. Just thinking about it had Oscar grinning.

Even with the smiles, he was keeping an eye on Childe. Those bandages were worrisome, bro.]

That sounds awesome. I didn't get a chance to try anything like that back when we visited the tundra at home.

[There had been a lot of stuff happening in Atlas, and fishing didn't even enter the radar amid the political chess they all were playing.]

Let's do it. You okay out there, Childe?

[Answer him honestly, or he's going to be bringing the entire kitchen in his bottomless bag.]

Famous last words, Childe.

[Oscar intoned, with a note of definite sass in his tone. He had seen and heard that kind of thing before-- and had heard of disastrous affairs happening to people he knew from home who feigned being okay only to later emerge with a new prosthesis as if nothing had happened. Already he was checking his notes for his first aid supplies in his bag, but he smiled no less.]

I'll try not to worry too much. My friends just have a real habit of finding trouble, that's all.

I'll be there soon!!

[And he was. A little while later Childe would find a little owl fluttering in from town-- an odd sight in the daylight, for sure.]

[The little owl did flutter down-- and, in the blink of an eye upon touching down, Oscar was the one who landed instead.

He grinned at Childe, clearly proud of his little trick.]

Hey. This is kinda far out!
justoscar: (big grin)

[The question earned a quick laugh from Oscar, chagrinned yet pleased by Childe's commentary.]

It was something I figured out how to do in the Dream, [he explained quickly.] But it's also one of the only pieces of magic that I've kept with me in Trench. As magics go, this is actually pretty nice!
justoscar: (door)

sorry for the late reply, I was siiiicccckkkk

[personal profile] justoscar 2022-01-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[If there was a way Oscar could share this power with others, he would do so in a heartbeat. As it stood, it was an alteration of his magics from Remnant by the whimsies of the late Julia Sodder. It no longer was connected to his legacy from the gods that abandoned his world... and it didn't abide by the same rules.]

That's right. just fishing in streams and lakes. [Oscar watched Childe work with the auger, fascinated.] Is it very different?

[Oscar gladly baited his hook, careful to secure the squirming minnow so that it wouldn't be stolen before he could reel his catch in.]

It doesn't matter if they're big or small,

[He said sagely, slipping unawares into that uncannily adult demeanor he sometimes fell into.]

As long as the time's well spent, it's great.

...It's been a while, Childe. I've been wondering what you've been up to.
justoscar: (up)

[Oscar let his hook drop in as well and let the line loose, so the minnow could wiggle freely. He released a sigh while he did so, and cast Childe a wry little smile.]

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. That this place is huge, I mean. Um.

[He shifted, not certain how to explain.]

Things have been... uh, eventful. In not good ways, unfortunately.

But. We're managing. I think.
