video | UN: deku | CW: Sleeper Membrane detailed on the canon update page
[ The plain young man with freckles is frowning sheepishly, shoulders raised. Today he's freshly showered and wearing one of his usual boring shirts. ]
Um... First-time renter, here... Something happened, and now some furniture the owner lent to me is damaged from... slime. A lot of it. It's gross.
[ Midoriya looks much the same, healthy even. Someone who has recently seen him might notice more freckles on his skin, like he got some spring sun. His hair needs a trim again, even though he just got one last month.
He moves out of view to reveal a plain wooden bedframe. On it is a lost cause, a mattress that looks like it's been slimed on a 90's game show. Bits of the Sleeper Membrane are already drying into peels. In it are... dozens of tiny eyelids? ]
I'll have to replace it, but... Do you think I'll get kicked out?

[ Taking the mattress outside and burning it does sound about right though. ]

Let's start with, uh, getting it out of there. I can drop by with some tools if you want.
no subject
...Please bring a tarp.

My bag is bottomless.

[He trailed with a hum.]
Nah, I've got it. Starting fires is something I'm pretty good at.
text to action
[ Deku's apartment is located in a multiplex in northwest Crenshaw, so it's structure is Edwardian (Victorian's younger, fresher sibling) like the townhouses around it. He meets Oscar in the entryway and ushers him towards an old fashioned cage elevator. ]
Thank you for coming, Oscar-kun.

It's no problem, Midoriya. I needed to get out of the house anyway.
[If his eyes were a little shadowed and his gait a little unsteady, it was a testament to his willingness to go against his own sleep cycles just to get out of the green mansion he resided in with his found family in Gaze. He loved them, but he needed to stretch his legs too.]
I still can't believe this kinda thing even happened. How are you with it all?
no subject
Do you want to eat first--Wait, no... maybe it's best if we do that after...
[ Looking at gross stuff after eating: bad.
Now he's trapped in an elevator with Oscar and that question, trying to figure out how best to answer it. He rolls his shoulders and scuffs his red sneaker on the elevator floor as they clang upward. He opens the gate for Oscar when they reach the top floor. ]
I have a few months' more memories from home now.
[ Let's start there. ]

[Instead he had been cocooned, and the remnants of his nest had faded fairly quickly in that treacherous snowstorm...]
It wasn't the greatest experience for me. [A shrug.] Did it do you any good?

[ He suspects that might be a post-slime conversation. He unlocks the door and for once doesn't remove his shoes right away. It's a modest, boring 1-bedroom apartment with, as he said, furniture from his landlord. Midoriya hasn't taken much time to decorate beyond buying some throw blankets and floor pillows in red, yellow, and blue. The whole place has the air of someone who doesn't spend a lot of time there.
He leads Oscar to the bedroom, wincing gingerly at having to show him, again, the disaster Oscar saw onscreen. He hands him some dish gloves and pulls on some of his own. He wears a pained expression like he's about to rip off a bandaid and sighs. ]
Let's start with getting the mattress on that tarp.

[ It was a harrowing thing to experience in person, and Oscar sucked in a breath at the sight. He retrieved the tarp and pulled on the gloves; they could work on the decorating later, this mess took priority. ]
Sheesh. It's worse than the camera let on!
no subject
He spreads the tarp out with a grim air. ]
Yeah, don't rub it in... [ he sighs weakly. He could lift the mattress without his Quirk, but it's big and unwieldy, and he doesn't want to add "broken ceiling light" to his list of damages. One For All helps him maneuver it safely onto the tarp as if it weighed nothing. He wraps it like a weirdly square and flat onigiri.
He squats next to the bed frame and squints dubiously at the leftover slime. ]
Soap and water... maybe? Have you ever cleaned anything like this before?
no subject
Nope.
[He shrugged-- and was already looking through the closets for a scrub brush or a mop.]
That doesn't mean we can't do it. It can't be worse than how my last outfit from home got messed up.
[With magic. And Grimm Goo.]
If soap and water don't work, vinegar might. If that doesn't, oil soap or acetone.
We just have to be careful. Mixing cleaners can be pretty dangerous if you just go at it.

[ It's tough work getting it all out of the bedframe, but Midoriya wants to minimize the damage before their next task. Slime and dirty rags are tossed into a bucket. Presently, the floor and furniture are as clean as they'll ever be. He rises from where he was squatting, tosses a last rag, and casts a dour eye at the mattress. ]
There's a place where we can burn this. Up for a walk?
no subject
[He was already gathering the supplies into his arms and reaching for a bucket when Midoriya spoke-- and Oscar cast him a bemused look.]
As big as all this is, we're gonna need a hand truck or something to get it there.
no subject
I've got the lighter fluid and the mattress. Can you spot for me?
[ He activates his Quirk with a small rush of wind and flickering energy beneath and around his skin. He lifts the mattress like it's filled with air instead of stuffing and springs. Now begins the awkward journey of maneuvering it through doors and elevators and pedestrians. ]
