[ The feed clicks on to show a sheepish looking Laurel on her couch. After a moment, she sits up straighter and clears her throat. ]

Sooo, last month, I got into a bar fight. [ She winces. ] But I wasn't exactly myself at the time. I was...a different version of myself, I think? One that has meta powers, likes violence and drinking. [ There's another wince. ] If you saw me dressed head to toe in black leather a few weeks ago and sporting some dark lipstick, that wasn't me. But I do apologise for that person.

[ This isn't the whole point of her addressing the wider network, but Laurel wanted to clear the air. ]

Which leads me on to my other reason for this post. Back home, I'm a lawyer and have been for about four years now. As there's no law in this place, I tried to think about how I could apply those skills. A while back, some people suggested that I become a mediator. Someone who could act as a neutral party to help people resolve their issues or problems without resorting to violence.

It's a work in progress because I need a space to facilitate it properly. I don't think anyone wants to talk about their issues in my tiny one bedroom apartment. [ Heh.] If there's a space available somewhere, can you let me know please?

Since money isn't a thing here either, I would accept food or items I can trade with at the Willful Machine markets.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only lawyer here in Trench. [He visibly looks relieved.] I've been finding myself wondering what I could do to apply my skills as well. Being in a place with no laws has been an experience, so to speak.

A mediator would not be a bad idea. If you would like some assistance, that is.

Suddenly, I'm really glad I was out of it for most of last month and missed everyone being...weird.

[Sure, it meant he was hallucinating and turned into a rage monster and only has the vaguest of memories of all of this but maybe he got off lightly? ]

But that's a good idea! Having a mediator might make things a little less...hostile at times. Probably need to make sure there's a lot of space- just in case blood powers come into play or it's just this place messing with people and making them more aggressive than normal. Maybe something to put them out of commission in case things get too heated?

[Is he suggesting tasering them? Kind of, yeah. ]

Less hostility is the goal. Or one of the goals. [Hm. Maybe she should make a list.] I did not think about the blood powers so thanks for reminding me. A large space with a soft floor and cushions maybe? Calming colours?

[Yeah. She's making a list. A mental one before she will jot them down.]

Varian - are you suggesting that I knock them out if I need to? I mean, I could. Though that depends on how strong they are and what powers they use.

Yeah, that makes sense. Lots of padding- maybe like...make sure the furniture is bolted to the floor or something.

A little bit, yeah. As a last resort. I have a sleeping gas if nothing else- that works really fast and definitely doesn't have side effects.

[Luz definitely couldn't answer people why her face was bruised for a few days. Clearly, being cool and devil-may-care had its disadvantages].

I hope you can find a space. It definitely seems like a service people could use around here! Personally, I also think we could use a psychiatrist, but for this place we'd need more than one.

I really hope I can find somewhere too. Can't help with the psychiatrist part, but even if we had like a counsellor to help people deal with their trauma and issues, I think it would be really helpful.

I was an Assistant District Attorney at home so I know about prosecution and what it involves. [ Wasn't always easy. ] If you want to offer help, that's great. Someone else has also volunteered but I don't mind the extra hands!

[Having the support did mean a lot to her.]

Aw, don't feel bad. I got into fights, spray painted dicks all over town, and almost got a tattoo. Lots of us weren't ourselves.

But like, a mediator is a genius idea! Is there a district you'd prefer to have your practice set up in?

For convenience sake, I was going to set it up in Willful Machine as I live there. But if you can think of any other districts with a suitable space, I'm open to suggestions.
