VIDEO; UN: SALLYFACE
[ Sal appears on video, for a moment he's perhaps a touch too close as he peers through his omni. Once he leans back and fully comes into view there's just some masked dude with a mess of blue hair staring into your souls. He has an odd looking guitar on his lap, and when he speaks his voice is slightly muffled and raspy.]
So, sup. I'm Sal, but everyone calls me Sally Face. [ He gives a small wave. ] To cut to the chase; I play guitar. So if anyone needs and or knows who needs someone who can shred it, or maybe gently shred it — I don't know, hit me up?
While I'm here, what's everyone's favorite kinda music? Any recommendations? This might be the most ridiculous thing to say given literally everything about this situation but I could use somethin' to do. Which isn't really a bad thing. It's a nice break. But, you know...[ He's just going to cap this off with a vague handwave as he trails off...he's been a bit isolated for a while, forgive the awkward. ]
[ But! Instead of just making everyone take his word for it that he knows what he's doing he decides to strum out a few notes as an example. A very energetic, alternative rock tune that might sound slightly familiar to some.
He's totally playing a rock version of Mary Had a little Lamb. He panicked, okay! ]

[And then he started playing...]
[That. That was certainly music. W-Wasn't it?]
[D-Don't mind her, Sally. This is just a bit of a culture shock.]

Uh, yo?
[ He adds, with an awkward chuckle, ]
Please, hold your applause.
no subject
Ah--!! That was... interesting!!
[She fumbles a moment, drawing on what she just listened to.]
I confess, that is not anything like what we hear in Faerûn! It almost sounds... like fae... and satyroi! ...with just a bit of orc... with maybe a bit of goblin...?
[She's still not sure what to make of it, tbh...]

S-shred? Why would you... Shred a guitar?
[Sorry, Sal, this guy is oblivious to 90% of slang. And also sounds like a sudden medium-volume noise would send him into a quivering anxious mess.]

He lowers his hand, taking mercy on the poor dude. ]
It's like when you play really, really hard, you know? It's pretty high energy stuff. Good for blowing off some steam too.

[Did he nail it? Please say he nailed it.]
I think - I think there's. A stage for people who play music.

Maybe it's the fact music is one of the only things he's comfortable talking about. Or branching off of that, the fact he's currently in the company of his own guitar — as his feed turns on, it reveals a young man lying down in bed with an acoustic guitar against his chest. Evidence of lazy strumming in bed, for sure. )
I'm uh, really into Tame Impala these days. Do you know them?
( Peter's shy and awkward, with hair a mess of dark curls and eyes surrounded by equally dark circles. Sleep doesn't seem to be a thing he gets very often. Still, there's a gentle friendliness to his tone, a timid attempt at reaching out. There's even a dopey little grin at the rock rendition of the familiar kids' song. )
Dude, who knew Mary Had a Little Lamb could sound so badass, though?
no subject
Tame Impala, huh? Never heard of 'em. The name kind of reminds me of Calm Goat, though.
[ The perils of being from a universe where everything is just slightly askew from everyone else's.
He ducks his head with a low chuckle. He's so not capable of pretending that was on purpose. ]
That was by complete accident. I meant to play...literally anything else. But sometimes when I get nervous I resort to Mary Had a Little Lamb. It was the first song I learned how to play.
no subject
Holy shit, they could be brother bands. Is Calm Goat also like.... stoner vibes? Because that's Tame Impala for sure.
( As a #TragedyStoner, he can say that. Gotta love dissociating to dream psychedelic rock. )
Oh — I get that. The first time I posted on this thing, I was so nervous I only showed like a fourth of my head. Creeped everyone out. ( There's a strong empathy in Peter for the concept of getting nervous... especially if you're new. Which— )
You're new here, right? I would say welcome, but this place.... kind of sucks.

It's not that ridiculous btw. There's a whole industry here that uses entertainment to alleviate corruption. Music is important for the soul. Literally.
no subject
I don't think I've heard much club music before. I should probably fix that.
[ Aside from making music he definitely enjoys learning about new music too. ]
Pretty cool that you can say, "music is important for the soul" here and have it be literal instead of being called a hippie and told to cut your hair.
no subject
(Dirk didn't play any instruments, but he did mix sounds and that was kind of the same thing, right? Right. He appreciates a dude who can play an instrument though. Nothing but respect here.)
Yeah. I highly doubt anyone would tell anyone what to do with their hair in this city for any reason. Trench appears to be more progressive than most people's homeworld experiences.

( he was goddamn old and jazz had been big when he'd been coming up in the world. )
Good to dance to if you're a dancer. Good to listen to if you're gonna brood. Very versatile music.
no subject
[ He shifts his guitar on his lap, turning down the tone nob before strumming away a somewhat jazzy tune to punctuate his point. It sounds okay, nothing special, and he doesn't get far at all before he stops with a muffled chuckle. ]
...But that's all I got. Probably a sign I should listen to more Jazz.
no subject
( he'd gotten bored so he'd learned. )
Guess everyone's brooding needs a soundtrack, right? Jazz works out better than say classical, I've found.

Oh, wow, that sounds so good! [ He isn't from Earth and doesn't know Mary Had a Little Lamb from the ABCs. ] My best buddy here plays too, you two should totally jam together!
You know, I run a venue here, the Raccoon Room. We have an open mic night every Thursday if you want to perform.
Oh, oh, and do you know about Lil Nas X? He's my favorite Earth artist.
[ He taps out something on his Omni and sends over two Lil Nas songs: Old Town Road and Lost in the Citadel ]
no subject
First — totally down, second — hell yes to the Raccoon Room, and third — never heard of 'em but holy crap, that's some good stuff. I don't think I've heard anything like it before.

[ Wu is beyond excited that this guy likes Lil Nas X ]
So what about you? What music do you like? Mostly rock?

Yeah, I guess I could do a little jamming. You're definitely not the only one around here. I've been in, like, three bands since I came here five months ago. Where you coming from when it comes to music? Like, if I drop A Day to Remember and Bring Me the Horizon, are you gonna look at me like I'm crazy?
no subject
Sweet tune.
[ Oh man, he's getting the gist of the odd parallels but it's always a little weird to explain. ]
Uh, so I kinda noticed that sometimes things are exactly the same but called something different. Like, never heard of A Day to Remember, but I know A Night to Forget — it's weird shit like that.
no subject
Oh, okay, cool, alternate universe stuff. Well, as long as they still kick ass. So yeah, that's the kind of stuff I'm into. How about you? [she grins on her end and it comes through in her voice.] Maybe I can figure out what my versions are.

What about you? That guitar looks sweet, I'm totally getting a rock vibe.

It's always nice to have a special connection to a certain type of music. It's kinda magical.
[ The reason heavy metal secures the most precious spot in his heart. ]
And thanks. I'm in that camp of liking all kinds of music too. I usually like to hear what other people are into to expand my horizons. But I guess I'm a rocker at heart, with a side of metalhead. I wouldn't mind jamming sometime. I haven't done that in a really long time.

My favorite songs... hm, "Sleep" from The Black Parade and "Hang 'em High" from Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, I suppose?

Hey, never be ashamed of your tastes. Music can be such a personal thing.
Anyway, I think that band where I come from is the same but it's called My Alchemical Romance. I think they're pretty rad.
