[back home, Rose couldn't go a day or even half a day without her mother reminding her of why her marriage to Cal was essential, even if Rose didn't even like him, much less love him]

I'm not sure? I would think so, it's a fairly popular drink. [a pause] What's it like? I've never had it before.

All right, let's. Beer is...from what little I know of it, it's not hard to make. I'd be willing to settle for a wheat beer.

Uh, you know - I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever actually had brandy. Too fancy. [ and dean is not a fancy man ]

[she's eyeing the liquor shelf as well as trying to see if they have anything like beer back there]

I never had it, either. My ex-fiancé always said it was too strong for a lady. [which makes her all the more willing to try it, releasing a most unladylike snort]

[ Sure looks like a tap to him - this place seems pretty fancy and upscale, so he'll tap the counter and call a bartender over. ]

Well screw that guy. Drink whatever you want -- hey, you got brandy? And two beers, dark, if you got 'em. [ he's asking the bartender, and he has to describe what it actually is he's asking for. while it may not be exactly the same, there's something similar, and before long, two little shots and two frosty beers are sitting in front of them. ]

He can go right to Hell, for all I care! [and she sits on a barstool, looking pleasantly anticipatory, smiling wider when their drinks are received] I wonder which one I should try first? Probably the brandy. [she picked up the shot glass and gulped it down like one long-accustomed to such things] --ooh! It burns! But in a good way.

Yeah, this is kinda nice. [ He doesn't drink a lot of good stuff because it's expensive, but here it all seems to work a little different, so hell with it. ]

[ Dean has that big brother vibe - it isn't the first time it's happened in Trench and it definitely won't be the last. He kinda likes it, that people see him that way, because Sam frankly was always kind of a dick about it. ]

Yeah, I'm kinda likin' it. [ Way better than some of the rotgut he found in the basement. It was so truly foul he'd thrown it out. ]

I'm finding this place actually has its charms. But I was long on sycophants and short on friends back home.

[she's not going to use the phrase "big brother" yet, but. she can't help wondering if she'd been second-born and a man like Dean had been first. he seems the kind of man who would have been able to find his way through her family's troubles without selling her off to a man like Cal]

So am I. [she gestures towards the bartender for another round of the brandy] And I forgot! We need something to toast to. Any ideas?

[Rose makes a point of looking around, then back to him when prompted.

and she grins broadly]

I'll drink to that. To new friends and no dickheads! [then tosses back her shot of brandy like it was nothing]

You heave your guts up later, well. Dean will leave electrolyte drinks by your door. ]

And, and-- [ he gestures for another round, taking a sip of his beer in the meantime; ]

I'll drink to that! [she raises her glass in a toast and takes a long drink]

Hell yeah, me too. [ He picks up his beer and toasts, taking a long swing. It's good and it's cold (he can and will do better), and it hits the spot. ]
