[Video 01] UN: Delilah Dirk - Arrival

[What appears on camera is a number of things in very short order. Someone is very clearly coming to grips with the technology. There is a flash of skirt, booted leg, of a woman's face tanned from a long time under the sun, and a mass of chestnut hair. Finally, a pair of deep brown eyes focus on it.]

What the bloody hell is this thing?

[She hasn't been pulled from any universe before - first time for her - and in any event, the technology is so advanced it's just one step away from magic for her. But it's not magic, because that would be silly.]

Is it on? That's what the light means, doesn't...? Right.

[She steps back a bit, moving this way and that as if trying to arrange the right angle. And then she begins.]

What the hell was any of that? I'd say someone slipped me some rather potent hash-hish if it weren't for that beach and those...odd ducks who welcomed me.

[She won't mention waking up naked. That had been an experience she wouldn't like to repeat. Or the part where she'd tried to run and had stumbled about like a toddler. None of that gets mentioned. Frankly, she's sitting at the junction of freaked out and amazed.]

So where am I? Who's responsible? And where the hell is my boat?

[She'll find the flying ketch soon enough - it just wasn't moored when the tide came in.]

That is definitely one way to obtain information! What did you get so far?

Place called Trench, blood types are important, some nonsense about pollution and gods and such...

[She reached back, pulling out a book and flipping through it briskly.]

No old temples, no hidden treasures, didn't know a thing about mysterious or foreboding castles to explore...

[She has...priorities.]

Yep, that all just about tracks. I'm still a little worried about the pollution stuff, but I'm getting a lot of suggestion about meditating and anchoring, so we at least know there's a way to combat that kind of stuff.

I'm sure there are plenty of mysterious places to explore, since that happens everywhere you go. There's also all the magic though. Can't forget that.

There had better be, or I'm going to be quite cross with this place.

Though at least the magic part means there's some new things I won't have seen before.

Pretty sure there is? Of course, that also depends on what an individual decides is treasure, right?

Oh, I'm sure that'll be something that comes up.

[delilah_dirk]

Oh, that part's easy. It comes in a box and shines.

[She nods, sagely.]

[Luz made a face]

That just sounds like jewels. There are way more to treasure than just that!

[delilah_dirk]

[She shakes her head]

It's mainly that it comes in the box. The thing hidden at the end of the secret passage, or underneath the Sultan's private chambers.

[The impression here being it's the acquisition, not the thing itself, which matters.]

Ah. So you like the presentation and the acquiring?

[Luz had to admit, she sort of got that].

I wish I could tell you if they have that anywhere, but I can't see why they wouldn't.

[delilah_dirk]

I mean, mysteriously drawing people in from all over the universe, you'd think.

And stealing back that which was wrongfully stolen. That's always good.

Considering what went down in the last town, I can tell you this place is, like, maze city by comparison. It definitely has more...mystery, actually.

Is that what you do, take back what was put in a museum and bring it back to its indigenous culture space?

[delilah_dirk]

[She nods eagerly at that.]

Oh, yes, that quite often. Though I just give it back to the people it was stolen from.

[She doesn't have fancy terms for it, really. It's just fair.]

That's awesome! Boy, they really bring all types of cool people here!

Have you already found a place to live yet, or figured out that stuff about your blood?

[delilah_dirk]

She looks thoughtful at that.

"No and very no," she replied. "I'm bunking on my flying boat - are we supposed to have a house?"

[imaglyphwitch]

[Oh. Well darn].

You don't have to but many people do. How'd you even get a flying boat?

[delilah_dirk]

[She waved it away.]

Oh, my Uncle built her for me.

[As if that explained anything at all.]

[imaglyphwitch]

And you were able to bring it here?! That's amazing!

Is your Uncle some kind of aeronaut?

[delilah_dirk]

"No, he just makes superb boats. She's taken me all over the Mediterranean," she replied.

[imaglyphwitch]

"Right, but how exactly do you make one that flies?"

One thing at a time!

[delilah_dirk]

She waves that away as if it's even more obvious.

"Why the sails, of course," she replies.

For her, it's a common sort of thing - but she knows how to sail the boat, not precisely how it all works.

[imaglyphwitch]

"The sails? But they would have to be really strong, wouldn't they? Otherwise, how would you be able stay afloat?"

Luz is only taking a shot in the dark when it came to aerodynamics, of course. She just figured something as heavy as a boat would need a LOT to make it fly, especially if it didn't have an engine like a plane.

[delilah_dirk]

She makes a hand gesture.

"Well, wind, obviously. And English oak," she adds with a note of pride.

[imaglyphwitch]

"I see," said Luz, which was a lie. "This is something I've got to watch to believe though."

If only to see what Varian would make of it. Of course, being what he did, maybe HE would actually explain to Luz how all of that worked.

[delilah_dirk]

She thumbed over her shoulder.

"I'm down at the docks. Get a good breeze going, I'll show you."

[imaglyphwitch]

"Oh you got it! I am definitely familiar with the docks!"

When one of your housemates with a fish kid, you got very acquainted with where the water was located.
