[Video 01] UN: Delilah Dirk - Arrival
[What appears on camera is a number of things in very short order. Someone is very clearly coming to grips with the technology. There is a flash of skirt, booted leg, of a woman's face tanned from a long time under the sun, and a mass of chestnut hair. Finally, a pair of deep brown eyes focus on it.]
What the bloody hell is this thing?
[She hasn't been pulled from any universe before - first time for her - and in any event, the technology is so advanced it's just one step away from magic for her. But it's not magic, because that would be silly.]
Is it on? That's what the light means, doesn't...? Right.
[She steps back a bit, moving this way and that as if trying to arrange the right angle. And then she begins.]
What the hell was any of that? I'd say someone slipped me some rather potent hash-hish if it weren't for that beach and those...odd ducks who welcomed me.
[She won't mention waking up naked. That had been an experience she wouldn't like to repeat. Or the part where she'd tried to run and had stumbled about like a toddler. None of that gets mentioned. Frankly, she's sitting at the junction of freaked out and amazed.]
So where am I? Who's responsible? And where the hell is my boat?
[She'll find the flying ketch soon enough - it just wasn't moored when the tide came in.]

[May as well be blunt.]

Whose?
[Because it doesn't at all seem like any she's heard of.]
Because I'm pretty sure I was an actual squid there for a little bit, and that isn't how any of the ones I know are supposed to go. Now, seeing things thanks to traditional medicines, on the other hand...that'd be right on side.

That "thing" is an omni, and you use it to connect with everyone else using it! You can leave messages to someone, or put up a video for all of us to see, or you can send a message by text! It takes some getting used to.
"That" was how we all pretty much how we all arrive here. We start out as, uh, squid, and then we regain out bodies and form up in this weird place.
This is a town called Trench, and you were brought here by the Moon Goddess of this world. A good amount of us were brought here from another town and it was a whole thing.
So what kind of world do you come from?
Re: Video
Right, videos, right.
[She says, very clearly pretending she has a clue what those are. 'Moon goddess' at least makes sense.]
And it's...well, the world. You know. Britain, France, Spain, the Mediterranean? All those places.
Re: Video
Exactly! Like how we can see each other! Uh, do they not have them where you're from?
Oh! So you're from a time on Earth! Cool!
Re: Video
....Yes?
Re: Video
So what else did you want to know?
Re: Video
So we're not...on...Earth, then.
[She needs a few breathes on that one, but when she straightens back up again...the grin might be surprising. Because it may be strange and weird but it's an adventure and she knows where she stands with that.]
Right, then. Why are we brought here? I assume that's a we.
Re: Video
[Good thing she was catching up. Whoever this person was definitely would have benefitted from some kind of manual].
I think we're being pulled together to fight his strange blood corruption stuff that's happening. Not sure how we do that yet though. I'm still pretty new to all of this myself.
Re: Video
Well, if it involves stabbing things, stealing back what was stolen, and other adventuring, I'm your woman.

Yes.
Yes, that's what it means.
You were a squid.
No Hash-hish this time.
Trench.
Brothers only know, probably a Pthumerian.
No clue.
[Congrats, Delilah, you get the smart ass who answered all your questions, including the ones that didn't need to be answered, in order.]
Re: text - UN: IceCream
What is a Pthumerian? Some sort of Pharaoh? Something Egyptian?
And what is a 'phone'?
no subject
They're really powerful apparently.
What's a Pharaoh.
For that matter, what's Egyptian?
Ah, you're from somewhere without them.
You message people on them, and they message you back.
no subject
And an ancient culture, Pharaohs were their rulers.
If it explains anything, the most advanced machinery I have ever seen is a little wind-up automaton that plays a dulcimer.
no subject
But considering that tech level you just said almost certainly not.
Boy, you're from way back in that case, aren't you?
So yeah, the crystal sends messages, in text, sound and can show you in person.
But all you're going to be getting from me is texts so you know.
I'm not exactly much of a talker, hah.
no subject
Texts. Strange choice of word - that means books, plural. But this place is definitely a massive learning curve.
no subject
It's kind of easy to tell anyone who's ever lived in Remnant a mile away.
But sure we'll go with a classic.
Classics are good.
Texts are for short messages.
Like passing notes between each other.
Books are still books.
no subject
And oh. Then why not just call them notes?

That said, even though he's willingly turned on his video feed, he's clearly nervous: dark-rimmed eyes wide, face tense. His hood is also up, as though in some attempt to conceal himself a little.
But.... he has a very important question for the Confused Woman With The Accent. )
Have you uh... seen anyone around here with any? Hash, I mean.
no subject
Not a one. But this is a city, and if it's a city, I can find the seedy part sooner or later. Shouldn't be a chore after that. I don't judge.
no subject
You're probably right about that. Back in Deerington, there was uh... plenty of stuff to get ahold of, when you needed it. This place is so different...
( A beat, as he reflects on her clear confusion about all of this. )
I'm guessing you didn't come here from Deerington?
no subject
As far as I'm concerned, I was in bloody Spain before coming here. And this is not Spain.
no subject
Yeah, it was uh... this weird kind of... dream town that a lot of us lived in for a long time? We all got sucked out of our homeworlds and taken there.
( His initial nerves are wearing off a bit and he's relaxing a little. He wants to help — though all the news to report about this situation is kind of depressing. )
I guess this place is calling people to it, too. I uh, I would say 'welcome', but given how dangerous it probably is around here... I don't know that it's the best place to welcome someone to.
no subject
Oh, dangerous is fine. I can handle that, might be fun.
no subject
It's, um... Well, back in Deerington at least, there were things like monsters and... all kinds of weird psychological shit. ( God how does he even explain how that place would take what was in your head and use it to torment you with? )
Was there a lot of... dangerous stuff back in your world?
