[Video 01] UN: Delilah Dirk - Arrival
[What appears on camera is a number of things in very short order. Someone is very clearly coming to grips with the technology. There is a flash of skirt, booted leg, of a woman's face tanned from a long time under the sun, and a mass of chestnut hair. Finally, a pair of deep brown eyes focus on it.]
What the bloody hell is this thing?
[She hasn't been pulled from any universe before - first time for her - and in any event, the technology is so advanced it's just one step away from magic for her. But it's not magic, because that would be silly.]
Is it on? That's what the light means, doesn't...? Right.
[She steps back a bit, moving this way and that as if trying to arrange the right angle. And then she begins.]
What the hell was any of that? I'd say someone slipped me some rather potent hash-hish if it weren't for that beach and those...odd ducks who welcomed me.
[She won't mention waking up naked. That had been an experience she wouldn't like to repeat. Or the part where she'd tried to run and had stumbled about like a toddler. None of that gets mentioned. Frankly, she's sitting at the junction of freaked out and amazed.]
So where am I? Who's responsible? And where the hell is my boat?
[She'll find the flying ketch soon enough - it just wasn't moored when the tide came in.]

That said, even though he's willingly turned on his video feed, he's clearly nervous: dark-rimmed eyes wide, face tense. His hood is also up, as though in some attempt to conceal himself a little.
But.... he has a very important question for the Confused Woman With The Accent. )
Have you uh... seen anyone around here with any? Hash, I mean.

Not a one. But this is a city, and if it's a city, I can find the seedy part sooner or later. Shouldn't be a chore after that. I don't judge.

You're probably right about that. Back in Deerington, there was uh... plenty of stuff to get ahold of, when you needed it. This place is so different...
( A beat, as he reflects on her clear confusion about all of this. )
I'm guessing you didn't come here from Deerington?

As far as I'm concerned, I was in bloody Spain before coming here. And this is not Spain.

Yeah, it was uh... this weird kind of... dream town that a lot of us lived in for a long time? We all got sucked out of our homeworlds and taken there.
( His initial nerves are wearing off a bit and he's relaxing a little. He wants to help — though all the news to report about this situation is kind of depressing. )
I guess this place is calling people to it, too. I uh, I would say 'welcome', but given how dangerous it probably is around here... I don't know that it's the best place to welcome someone to.
no subject
Oh, dangerous is fine. I can handle that, might be fun.
no subject
It's, um... Well, back in Deerington at least, there were things like monsters and... all kinds of weird psychological shit. ( God how does he even explain how that place would take what was in your head and use it to torment you with? )
Was there a lot of... dangerous stuff back in your world?

Does being caught between Napoleon and the British army during the biggest war Europe had ever seen count?
no subject
Woah... Okay yeah, I would say that definitely counts.
( She's a badass....! )
What year was that? I uh, I'm not too good at history. ( Peter's memory is pretty poor, being all riddled with demons and whatnot. )

[She nods, though, cottoning back to the moment.]
1812-ish. I think it's summer? Well, leaves haven't started turning yet, anyways. So late summer, at worst.

I'm from uh, the 2000's. There's... there's a lot of people from different times, around here.
( Adjusting to this would definitely be a Fucking Weird Process, especially since she wasn't at Deerington before here. )
Honestly, I'm not sure what time we're even in now? But a lot of this place seems to work by some kind of magic, so... I think the rules are all kinds of messy.
no subject
So. 2000s. Better or worse?
[She quirks an eyebrow, hand doing a so-so gesture in question.]

I want to say.... better in some ways? Like there's all kinds of advanced technology kind of stuff? Like the uh, things we're talking on right now? We don't have stuff exactly like that when I'm from, but there are some phones that come pretty close. And... the medical advancements, too.
( This is stuff he's learned thanks to having friends here like Diarmuid, who is a monk from the 13th century..... They had it pretty rough back then with all that. Peter frowns though, because it's not all great. )
But the planet's kind of... in really bad shape, so that's not cool. People didn't take care of it.

Sounds right. Which is a pity.
