Eddie looks different than the last time most people had seen him. For starters, he has a green undertone to his skin. For another, his tongue is completely black. Behind him is an empty room with gray floorboards and peeling green walls. It at least looks clean. There's a Gucci suitcase on its side, opened up, with clothes spilling over and across the floor. Another Gucci suitcase sits next to it, but it has been partially charred.
A dog is passed out and snoring rather loudly in the opened suitcase.
Despite his on-point meme drop, Eddie's delivery is completely and suspiciously blank. His gray eyes are flat, and his expression remains completely empty.)
Richie's here too. (As if on-demand, a massive fireball blast out from the doorway of a nearby room followed by some crashing and yelling. Eddie doesn't even bother to glance over his shoulder.)
We're settling in okay. We're in Lumenwood. I've got some of my supplies from Deerington but I've got a shitton of stuff I need to restock.
(Which was going to be such a drag.)
But for those on a need-to-know basis, I've already made some important notes on this place. Not that any of you give a shit, but if you do...I guess we were given journals for a reason. I suck at journaling though. Here's a uh --- transcipt? Is that what it's called? Whatever, I typed it up.

give me your blood so i can figure it out. i studied hematology a LOT
last time i checked out my blood under a scope it was totally different than what it is now on a cellular level.
i actually tried to expose my blood to some bacteria and germs that would usually cause an infection and it was really weird? what look like my new white cells just immediately seemed to swallow up the bacteria and it was like it never existed at all
thats not to say you should run around and stab yourself with a rusty fork anytime soon
but it'd be cool if i could get more samples to see if this is just a Me thing or an Us thing

A century of war. You develop a certain ability to just 'deal with it' until the fighting finally stops. But when it did, I realized just how exhausted I really was. Part of me hates seeing everyone slinging the elements around, and part of me is almost glad it isn't me.
Since you're looking into this, put a pin in something called "Blood Corruption." I've heard the term used, and I think both you and I can imagine that we're probably not safe from corruption of some sort.
These natives have the feel of a people who are too bent on finding ways to survive to bother to be bigoted. Bigotry is a thing that is, in part, the convenience of a people a little beleagured, but who have enough freedom to feel safe in hating another. When you are surrounded on all sides by monsters, and food is hard to find? You don't have time to hate the way that you do when your belly is full.
It is, in part, one of the reasons I think they might be real. They act like real people.

The exact method is the problem. And between you, me, and the fence post Moira would have gotten a supreme headache even as she would be fascinated by all of this. It straddles a line between Science and Magic that defies us both. Neither approach is likely to hit exactly on the nose. Moira hated something she couldn't puzzle out.
Still, I miss her to this day. I know you do too. But you won't be alone in this.

Don't let Korra see them 'moving blood.' It would end very badly. I remember talking with her about that. It might be best to use the old fashioned methods for her if possible. I've not watched the Ministers work yet. The Plague Doctors and I barely got along before, and I'm trying to gather the stomach to deal with them now.
Let's hope she comes someday. Albert should meet her, as much as I've talked her up.

I don't think that they've heard of your version of Earth's educational system. I don't think that the rules of your Earth apply to what it has become anymore. They're probably glad for the help and would apprentice you.
I'll handle the hope in your stead. But I'll admit that it hurts to have. Sometimes that pain is worth it even if the hope one day gets dashed. We need cynics too, and no matter how hard-bitten I get, I can't be quite that cynical about everything.

Understandable. I can't really fault the use of cynicism. It is a good shielding cloak, and we're often proven right when we wear it. I guess maybe I just have a stubborn bone in my body for it. We can complement each other in approach then.

Yes, I believe that was the name. I read about them. If they can do it with ice, I suppose bone would work just as well. Wouldn't hurt if they were very large bones. Adaptability and ingenuity are key, though this isn't quite so bad a situation.
