A quick question.

I see we're dealing with some sort of unending night scenario. The pirates and the squid thing are easy enough, but I've got to know:

Is this a Vampire kind of darkness or a Werewolf kind of darkness? I can figure the rest out accordingly if someone has an answer.

Also the convenience stores here suck. The tea is weak, I can't find a decent sandwich, and all of the rival shops are out of a proper cleaner to get the salt stains off my glasses.

Anyone feel like sharing any tips?

Well, that depends on your starting dimension. You're familiar with Poe and Lovecraft, so I'm assuming you're from a planet called Earth? Somewhere in North America or Europe, probably during the last half of the 20th century or the first half of the 21st?

London. 2004. Definitely Earth.

You've narrowed it down quite quickly. I take it there are many others from an Earth close to what we know?

That's correct. This planet is actually earth, just some number of millennia after the 20th century, and Julia Sodder was originally alive during the 1950 or 1960s in the northeast region of the United States. I suspect that has a significant degree of influence on the Sleepers that are drawn into this world.

You're lucky my neighbor already gave me the multiverse talk, but I'm still gathering info on what happened with Julia Sodder. She was a Pthumerian like all of the other natives of this world, correct?

All this does make me wonder if Lovecraft didn't have a point. Didn't he grow up in the northeastern United States?

A half-Pthumerian, actually. The first of her kind, though certainly not the last. Her power had a severe destabilizing effect on reality.

In any case, Lovecraft certainly did have the right idea... to an extent. Some versions of Lovecraft existed in perfectly mundane dimensions, and others existed in dimensions with entities that made the things he wrote about seem cute.

Well. That certainly explains the multiverse situation that's in play here-- and makes me wonder now if there's a reality where, in fact, Sherlock Holmes was real and had to engage with entities on par with the Pthumerians of this world.

From what you're saying, it sounds like anything is possible.

Almost certainly - likely more than we could count. I've been to dimensions where dinosaurs were the dominant species of earth; or everything was decided though gambling; or the water was sentient and extremely aggressive; or everything is M-shaped for some stupid reason.

[ He's getting a little heated just thinking about the M dimension, in fact. ]

Just try to be prepared for anything. You'll meet some odd people here, but odd can be interesting.

As long as we don't encounter denizens from the reality where books devour souls or the moon is a supercomputer that's existed as long as the solar system has, I think we may be good.

[Too bad Waver is unaware that the possibility of meeting a version of his dear red haired friend that hails from a timeline where this is indeed reality is non-zero. It may be good for his sanity to not know this.]

I heard we have had issues with soul devouring books in the past, or something like it.
