[When Luca comes onto the screen, it looks like he's been crying.]

So...um...I just wanted to let everyone know that Varian and Fern are gone. They...probably turned back into squids. Which...I mean, they're still together, so it's fine. They're fine. They're happy out there in the ocean, doing squid things, and really it's not like it's the first time I've realized I'm going to be separated from the people I care about, so...

[After all, when he went to school he was separated from Alberto and his family, expecting to not see them until the summer. Then he ended up here and realized he might very well never see them again. Still, having a feeling of loss strike him like this even in his new life when he's still longing for the people he loves from his previous one to show up...it hits him hard, and he looks like he might start crying again.]

So I'm fine, too.

[This is obviously a lie.]

Yeah. Company would be nice.

Rose knows too well that grieving may have many different outcomes. There are days you want to be alone, not having to see anyone in person. No energy left to give. There are other days where you need to feel some kind of connection to another living person, need someone to reach out a hand.

When she's given permission to see him, she wastes no time. She packs a few things into her bag, leaves her Omen behind to watch over Sharon, and heads off to the household which now has two less within it. Rather than knock, she sends him a message saying that she's outside, and once the young boy opens the door, the first thing Rose does is lean to hug him.

It's not suffocating, not intense. Just gentle, warm, secure.

Once he gets the message, Luca opens the door, eagerly returning the hug the second it's received.

"Thank you," he says quietly, grateful for the warmth and the closeness to another human being.

She doesn't even have to think about the embrace, about the closeness. Rose keeps hugging the boy for a long moment, giving his thin body a secure squeeze, before gently pulling back just enough so that she can look at him.

"I brought some food and things for you, and the others." She says, softly. She knows they have an adult presence, but she's not familiar with this Reaper guy beyond his name alone. She's hoping to get to meet him at some point, and offer any assistance she can give with looking after the household.

"Are you hungry?" He might not be, especially with how upset he's been.

"Thanks, that'll be really helpful. Especially since Fern would use his powers to grow most of the plant foods we'd eat. Although I usually bring home all the fish when the weather's warm enough for me to swim!"

Which happens at a much cooler temperature than it would be for a human, but since he's from the Ligurian Sea which never gets below fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit, the winter here is definitely too cold for him.

He looks at the food. It looks really good but...he's honestly not sure how much he can bring himself to eat at the moment.

"I...I'm not sure I can eat right now. But I'm still really glad to have the food!"

Rose's worry is simply deepening to hear that one of the boys was responsible for a great deal of their food source. On top of losing a precious housemate and friend, they've also lost that... It's a lot. She bites her lower lip for a moment, giving a little nod. Making a mental note that she'll be needing to keep a close eye on them and helping them with their food situation as much as they need. Even if Luca can cover the fish front, she can try to help with the vegetables and other plant stuff, now.

"That's all right, I'll just leave it for you guys to eat whenever you want." She smiles again, looking up at the door. She's just now realising she's never been over here, before. Her interactions with the kids have always been around town, or, in Luz's case, coming to visit Rose at her own home.

"If you'd like to lead the way to the kitchen, I can leave it in the fridge for you. I've actually never been over here before."

She's sorry that her first visit is because of something so sad.

Luca offers a little smile. Really, this food will definitely be helpful. Sure, they'll probably manage regardless, but it's one less thing they have to focus on while they're adjusting to the loss.

"Okay, yeah, this way!"

He leads the way to the kitchen.

Rose follows him in, looking around the space slowly, taking it in for the first time. Once she's in the kitchen, she's placing the food into the fridge — carefully wrapped sandwiches, a container of soup that can be reheated any time, and some fresh vegetables and fruits. It's quite a bit of food, and she hopes it'll help them out for at least a few days.

Then she's turning back to Luca, her smile still lingering, but it's a sad one.

"This is a really nice home." She hesitates, before speaking up again. "Do... you need any help with their things? Fern's and Varian's."

She isn't sure if there might be things that need to be taken care of — perhaps pets that were left behind, or rooms to be sorted through. Items to be organized. Maybe he doesn't need any help there, but Rose feels the need to offer. Loss is hard enough, much less with certain tasks that might need doing. She's here to help however he and the other kids might need.

"You mean like...getting rid of their things?"

That...that's a lot to think about, and Luca really doesn't want to. But...he knows they'll have to.

"I don't know if I'm ready to get rid of their things yet...but...we wanted to open the space for another kid to move in...so I guess we have to, don't we?"

The lab could stay as is. Zib was going to take over the use of the lab, but he figures Varian's lab stuff could be useful for Zib, to.

Rose feels a pang shoot through her heart, making her chest feel tight. Her voice softens further, and she gently reaches to place a hand on his shoulder.

"You don't have to get rid of them, it's all right. I could just help organise some of them, if you wanted. Maybe put some things in storage until you guys decide what you want to do with them later on."

It's... a lot, she knows. Extra weight on top of what's already heavy.

"I could do that for you."

"Thanks. I think that's a good idea. It would help a lot. That way we don't have to feel like we're just getting rid of every trace of them, but we can still have room for Zib to move in."

And it's important, since Zib is here and, as sad as it is Varian and Fern are not, to make sure there is room for Zib.
