[When Luca comes onto the screen, it looks like he's been crying.]
So...um...I just wanted to let everyone know that Varian and Fern are gone. They...probably turned back into squids. Which...I mean, they're still together, so it's fine. They're fine. They're happy out there in the ocean, doing squid things, and really it's not like it's the first time I've realized I'm going to be separated from the people I care about, so...
[After all, when he went to school he was separated from Alberto and his family, expecting to not see them until the summer. Then he ended up here and realized he might very well never see them again. Still, having a feeling of loss strike him like this even in his new life when he's still longing for the people he loves from his previous one to show up...it hits him hard, and he looks like he might start crying again.]
So I'm fine, too.
[This is obviously a lie.]
That's all. I just thought everyone should know.
[He ends the recording right there.]

Getting over terrain too! Very cool. If I didn't have a staff or the bird hat, I'd ask for that too. Luckily for me, running away is actually something I'm very good at.
[This is not an insult to herself, but a factual statement].

[After all, Luca's still a kid and, while he's grown since he's gotten here, he's still very small. Sure, he might be able to be taught to fight, but it's probably safer for him to know how to escape first and foremost.]
Yeah, I was already good at running away, too. I mean, that's how I was able to avoid harpoons! But there's always room for more practice.

[On Luz's end, leaning more about her magic was a good way to help other people too, particularly if they needed to escape. Even Luz wasn't above having to run away if the situation was impossible. Even Eda would have told her that].
Right, harpoons. Jeez, that would have been a nightmare to escape. I'm with you on that.
no subject
[Because Luca's pretty sure there's no amount of training that will make him feel confident that he can actually win a fight.]

Maybe...maybe you and Ahiru should start getting used to the Fathiers. I know they're HUGE and they're fast, but if you ever had to get out of here in a hurry, you'd be able to with them.
no subject
I guess I could. I mean, I'm pretty fast on my bike, but...riding the Fathiers could be fun, too. And they'd be good to escape on.
[And he does like going fast.]
no subject
[Ok, it actually always WAS that, but he got what she meant without being technical about it].
The Fathiers are SUPER fast, Luca. I'm not joking. They can keep going for a long time if you don't give them commands to stop! And they can probably be out of Cassandra in ten minutes!

Also, I think I should make a saddle. If you're never ridden an animal before, let me tell you: very hard on the rear.
Enough of that and your backside is hurting for days.
no subject
[No need to have his backside hurting for days when it can be avoided, after all.]

[Which sounded more like a place for overly sensitive people, but still]!

But since I don't trust that they'd do that and not get killed, I go with them.

Maybe sometime we can ride them out together! And I can help with the saddles if you want!
no subject
Oh definitely! I'd love that! Just make sure you're ready for how fast they go, ok?
no subject
[Sure, he wouldn't have been before, but he really feels like her description gives him a good idea of what to expect, and what to expect is very fast.]
Hey, at least since they're animals and not vehicles, they won't run into anything!
[Since generally no matter how you 'steer' an animal, they'll override you if they think you're being dumb.]
no subject
[Also, it would help if someone else took the Fathiers out for a run. Luz may have loved it, but it was still pretty crazy how fast they went]!
Just remember to feed them afterward, though they'll probably fine a good spot to graze. Call them by their names, Delyn and Mila! Oh, and I'm still working on getting them to take you to specific places!

[Considering what seamonsters are raising fish for, it's a reasonable concern. And they might not be entirely wrong. Luckily his favorite was one of the ones primarily used to breed more fish, but Luca likely would not have taken it well if he was still home when Giuseppe got too old for that.]
no subject
[Granted, it was incorrect to even CALL them mammals since that was an Earth term and these guys were not from Earth].
I could have them as pets and not give them names! So I decided to name them after two really important people in my life!
no subject
...the important people in your life with those names, I mean.
[Not the fathiers, he knows them.]
no subject
Delyn in a shortened form of Edalyn, the name of my teacher and mentor in the Boiling isles. She's pretty much like my other mother!
Mila is a shortened version of Camilla, my mom's name. So I named the two after two really great people!
no subject
[And Luca doesn't intend to ever give up on the people that are important to them showing up.]
no subject
[Luz really missed her "moms," since Eda technically wasn't but also was].
Yup, I just wanted to make sure the fathiers had good names, and who was responsible for me taking such good care of them!
