Video UN: glyphywitchy
[So in the later part of the month, Luz has been through some rather troubling situations, ones that had her fighting friends/WITH friends in blood arenas, seeing dead bodies of people she had unresolved issues with, and of course, the lack of sleep. That is always a factor. It is, in fact, the primary factor for this video.
The video is out of focus for a moment, but you hear little shuffling, and subtle crashes for a minute before Luz finally appears, slowly, as if peering out into the world].
Heeheeheeheehee....
You guys thought it was still a work in progress. That I wouldn't have the time. (Literally no one said this)BUT! Against all odds and sleep being a thing for UTTER FOOLS I finally have it done! What, you may ask?(No one did) I'll tell you!
Ooh, wow, that is a pretty night outs-ah! Anyway! Yes! Back to this! Feast your eyes, mere mortals and assorted others!
[Luz was off camera, and shifted the view
to give a look at the left side of her new room, having made full use of its woody-ness for lanterns and hanging lights. This is even more present in her actual
bed space on the right side of the room, and all of this would not be complete without Luz's assorted artwork and many stuffed animals adorning the place. You can see Tempest, her omen, choosing to sleep at the foot of her bed, and Owlbert, perched peacefully on one of the bed posts. It's clear these two were Luz's moral support during her cleaning and sorting and they are now SO tired they will let their charge gremlin out as much as she wants.
All in all, it was a hodgepodge of all things Luz, from the witchy potions and ominous lighting to the outdoorsy aesthetic she'd immediately loved, topped with her touch of cuddliness and art that she'd framed and put up herself].
Ha! See! I finally have the room looking like a place for sleepovers. OMINIOUS sleepovers! Or not, they could be regular. But! Now its a space for a new world, with new things to think about and intriguing ideas about my personal growth I don't dare to delve into yet!
So you know. If you guys ever want to hang, just say the word! But I'm open to new ideas! What do you all think? Other than "she really needs sleep." THAT JOKE IS GETTING OLD PEOPLE!

Re: [Video]>[[Action]
I'll let you in on something I haven't told to many people: When I first glimpsed our Moon Presence's human mask, I mistook her briefly for someone close to me, whom I had been seeking before I fell into Deerington: my elder sister Alex. We shared no relation by blood or genetics, but she was the one among my adoptive siblings with whom I shared a close bond.
* * *
He'll slide the gaiter mask down from his face as she opens the door.
"You wouldn't be wrong: I'd earned two doctorates in my world of origin, one in genetics, the other in virology," he says, hefting the leather satchel. "Though I worked in the research end of the medical field. No clinical work, at least till I came to this place and took up an apprenticeship at the Lumenarium."
Re: [Video]>[[Action]
Maybe there's something to that. I always felt like her mother presence might be part of her power, that when she's projecting that, we feel it in a way where we see the...what's...the word...manifestation of those feelings?
Sheesh. Maybe I'm reading to much into this?
-
"That's pretty impressive! How are you doing there so far?"
Luz would have to tell this to Varian, who she felt would definitely find all of this fascinating. Luz may not know about that kind of thing, but there was no doubt in her mind how important it was going to be in this world.
Re: [Video]>[Action]
She is a mother, not, perhaps, in the tender, sentimental sense, but someone who nurtures while yet seeking the strength of her young ones. "Who is she that cometh forth fair as the moon, terrible as an army set in array?"
---
"I'm adapting well to clinical work, at least to the medical aspect. I have the sense that I need to work on my bedside manner, though I seem well-suited to dealing with the more recalcitrant patients," he says, dryly. He sets the leather case on the nearest flat surface, before slipping out of his coat and rolling up his sleeves.
"Well, we'll need a chair for you to sit in, next to a small table for the device."
Re: [Video]>[Action]
I kind of think that about her too. She was Cynthia for a long time, trying to protect her daughter, which must have been super hard on her. With no Julia, I guess it's somehow easier for her to just watch over us.
_
"In that case, I'll try to be as cooperative as I can!"
This will actually not be that much of a stretch for Luz, who tended to not mind going to the doctors too much. The dentist was another matter altogether.
In any case, Luz gestured to the chair that was next to her wide table and moved the microscope so that they had plenty of room.
"This all right?"
[CW: Transfusion work]
It's her nature, I suppose. She may have, if I'm not mistaken, let her daughter go, in the end, when her child's sufferings had ended, but we were her daughter's friends and companions and acquaintances. It seems only fitting and proper for her to let us fill the void Julia left.

"It's perfect," he says, and opening the satchel, takes out the antique transfusion rig, fitting it with a glass collection jar and attaching some flex tubes and a cannula to it. "This will look a little strange," he says, and slipping one of his sleeve garters onto his upper arm, tightens it enough to raise the vein before he inserts the cannula. A moment and then his reddish-green blood fills the tube and empties into the collection jar.
Re: [CW: Transfusion work]
That's true. I always wished I could have done more when it came to Julia though. At least Cynthia was able to reinvent herself.
_
Luz stared, wide eyed. Wow. So this was the kind of stuff you got into when it came to being a blood minister. Then again, this might have all just been a part of being in the medical profession, since Luz's mother likely had to do this with animals, right?
OW. Ok, best not to think about that right now.
"Whoa, its got speckles!"
[CW: NPC character death referenced]
We all did what we could for Cynthia. I helped her cross over, as it were. I made sure it was as painless as possible. As for Julia... she was far from my favorite person, but in the end, once she had passed, I could hold no ill will against her. She and I were... more alike than I could have imagined.
***
"I depend on transfusions and I've been giving them, and yet I'm still growing accustomed to this," he muses, almost thinking out loud. But at her enthusiasm, he chuckles gently. "The colors surprised me, too, the first times I saw them. Some find it unsightly, but those need to broaden their perspectives."
Once the jar fills, he removes the cannula from his arm and clamps off the tube, the mark in his flesh already starting to close. He removes the cannula, swapping it out for a clean one. A scent like intensely sweet-smelling lilies might hover in the air.
Re: [CW: NPC character death referenced]
[Luz gritted her teeth. Boy, she definitely remembered that incident too, including Dipper dying and whose fault she blamed everything on, even though he wasn't in Deerington soon afterward. She was still really annoyed to think about it though].
I wanted to help Julia. I didn't realize until much later that it was too late to do so. I was actually a little down about it for some time, if I'm totally honest about it. I'm glad we could at least help Cynthia though.
Even if the way they did it was kind of messed up.

"I don't blame you. In my world, this kind of stuff only happens because a major injury happened, or something related to a blood disease. But in this world, it looks like just about everything is related to blood."
She could only imagine what actual vampires would make of a place like this.
"Ooh, that's a nice smell...say. Your wounds closed up pretty quickly. Is that common in your world?"
[CW: Fictional pathogen discussed]
***
"Mmm, and in my world of origins, I was working with tissue samples and live viruses, not entire patients in need of treatment, which I've been assisting with since I arrived here," he remarks, clamping the line before taking a bottle of cotton balls from his satchel, uncorking it and taking a few out. "Also, my saliva has both antiseptic and topical anesthetic qualities." He pauses and spits into the wad of cotton he holds. "Comes in handy, when you haven't any rubbing alcohol on hand. May I take your arm?
"Stairway of the Sun - it's a flower from my world of origin and the scent you're smelling," he explains. "Not common at all, unfortunately. Something happened to me long before I came to this world or its predecessor: I was infected with a mutagenic pathogen. It made me stronger and swifter. as well as giving me a rapid healing factor."
Re: [CW: Fictional pathogen discussed]
[She could only wonder].
_
"You don't say? That's got to be a heck of an adjustment, but I'm sure that this world is already lucky to have you in it. They seem to need all the help they can get!"
Luz's eyes widened at the explanation and no, she didn't think it was gross for someone's spit to be used as antiseptic, why do you ask?
"Oh. Wow. Is that part of the reason your spit can do what it does? It's funny though: in a comic book, someone with your abilities would use them to fight crime or go do something crazy. I guess real life has its own truths."
[CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
But to speak seriously: the transformation or perhaps transmutation incited by the squid form was the catalyst for the change. However, something greater seems to have caused those transformations in the first place, perhaps the Pthumerians, perhaps something greater.
-
"I know how to make myself useful, and since it seems I'm living here now, it's best if I apply my skills to the fullest. I owe this world a living." A glance down at his black suit. "It probably goes without saying I'm one of the Practical types."
He chuckles, less of the usual sinister note, though not absent of it. "We'll say I've done more than my share of crazy. However, I'd had a hand in taking out a corrupt pharmaceutical company, which had been a front for dire things, including the well-concealed experiments that made me what I am.
"The change to my saliva is something new to this place, though my blood is still dangerous to be exposed to, except to Palebloods, for some reason. Their magic balances our poison, it would seem."
He unclamps the line then turning a crank on the back of the device, letting the line fill and expel the air. He carefully swabs the inside of her elbow, which may cause the area to go slightly numb. "You may feel some dull poking and the canula will feel a little weird sitting in your arm." Then he gently inserts the point into her vein.
Re: [CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
[Yes, she was including herself in that. Self burn]!
You don't think it was made to happen by the Moon presence?
_
Luz giggled. "Sorry, that makes me think of a song I heard when I was young. I might have watched too many cartoon!"
You go, Disney kid.
"Oh. Whoa. So that's two bombs you dropped on me. I may have to pick your brain about the evil pharmaceutical company later, the other thing is more of a surprise. I didn't know our blood was compatible like that. Like donors and receivers, in a way."
In a really strange way, at least.
Luz waved her hand away. "I've given blood before! I'll be fine!"
((OOC: wonder if I should RNG to see if Luz faints from this...))
Re: [CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
It could be, though bear in mind, she is one of our Pthumerian hosts, if not the principle among them.
---
He might look at her with a bemused smirk, before a memory clicks. "My mind must have flashed onto those Disney shorts which my goddaughter used to watch.
"I'd be curious to know if certain blood types from our respective worlds cause a propensity toward becoming a particular type in this place. My blood was type O before I came here, meaning I could receive only Type O, but here, it's reversed: I can receive from most any Sleeper type.
"Giving and receiving are quite different experiences. You have my complete understanding: I have to undergo these twice a day to maintain my abilities."
((OOC: Go for it! I'll roll with the results.))
Re: [CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
Well yes. As far as I was made to believe, she's the reason we're all living in the world that we live in now, right? So if anyone's to blame for the squid form thing, it's her.
[She was still not sure about the other Pthumerians yet. There was still so much to learn about this world].
_
"I was raised on them too, though they're definitely rough to watch, with all of the stuff you can see now."
Some were definitely less sensitive than they could have been back then.
"Is that right? So you can give to anyone? A Vileblood, right, like Luca?"
((1-5 she faints *1 critical faint* and 6-10 she's good, successful 10 she barely registers it))
Re: [CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
[Almost thoughtfully, almost, almost.] That might make us all her children, in a sense, and arriving as a Squid is our means of birth.
---
"Mmm. The animation can be crude at times, as well as some of the less than sensitive social elements." He might think the human race needs to evolve, but that has less to do with race and/or gender, and more to do with flaws in the overall design of the human body.
"Ahh, one of your roommates? I haven't met them yet, however..." He slows the crank a bit, letting the last drops run down. "Vileblood can receive from any other blood type, but they can donate only to other Vilebloods or to Paleblood. The toxicity of the plasma, the liquid part of the blood, can be too much for anyone else. But that plasma has its uses elsewhere: it's used in the making of some very effective incense, also they've used it in smoke grenades. I have an arrangement with a Hunter: they keep Beasts from my door, I give them my blood to use in grenades."
He'll gently remove the cannula and presses a gauze pad to the mark it leaves behind, then tapes it down with a bit of cloth tape. "Feeling better?"
Re: [CW: Fantasy transfusion.]
[Luz wasn't sure if she actually believed that, of course. She'd seen some pretty original stuff come out of all of this].
Oh, I just assumed we all are, at this point. Technically we are all reborn as squids, so that would track.
_
"Still, there's something to be said for the classics! They have their own appeal. I watch a lot of old movies with my mom back home, and even they have their own charm!"
Luz was naive, but only where she chose to be, at this point.
"Yup, he's technically new to Trench, not even a former Deerington kid like us! Keep an eye out, I'm sure you'll see him eventually! Oh. Man. I did not know that. Glad to have that knowledge under my belt. If Luca ever needs a transfusion, I'll be sure to look you up. Gonna have to make sure that we stayed stocked on incense though. I don't want anything creeping up on us if I can help it."
Once he was done and pressing the gauze pad after, Luz looked up at him and smiled.
"Yup! Much better! It's a little like giving blood, honestly!"
[CW: Fantasy misanthropy.]
"One small request: you wouldn't happen to have any fruit juice at hand? My blood sugar sometimes gets a little weird after a donation."
Re: [CW: Fantasy misanthropy.]
She wouldn't mind one extra person watching Luca's back, of course.
"Of course! Lemonade or applejuice? It's the juices that we have so far."
[CW: Fantasy misanthropy, entitled customers described.]
"Whatever you come to first: In a case like this, I'm far from particular."
Re: [CW: Fantasy misanthropy, entitled customers described.] <--KARENS A'PLENTY
Luz knew that "tomboy" would probably be one of the nicer things they'd say, even in a derisive tone.
"Oh, good! Pretty sure we only have apple juice right now anyway, but it's kinda cider-y, so it'll have a really good flavor to it!"
[CW: Fantasy misanthropy, grand theft auto referenced.]
It could have been worse. He could have bagged some Townspeople as test subjects. Vira-Lorr would likely have ended him if he had.
"Cidery apple juice would be ideal: more sugars and nutrients that way," he says, packing up the rest of his gear.
Re: [CW: Fantasy misanthropy, grand theft auto referenced.]
Luz knew that she hadn't even seen the worse of them anyway. She still remembered the description of the Bettys and that was enough to make Luz not so geared toward wanting to spend too much time around Deerington natives.
"Cider, coming right up!" Luz said, looking for a glass. "What are you getting into these days? Like, right now?"
Re: [CW: Fantasy misanthropy, grand theft auto referenced.]
"When I'm not busy at the Lumenarium, training as a Blood Minister, I'm assisting a Hunter, a rather strange sort: they dress like a medieval plague doctor - the sorts in the long leather robes with those beaked masks that make them look like raven-headed humanoids," he relates, seating himself. "I've never seen their face, but I've assisted them when they needed to be patched up after tangling with an especially fierce Beast. In return, they've brought me specimens from some of their Hunts. If you ever hear something running about on the roof, and see something in a beaked mask with a feathered cloak, fear not: Locrian the Hunter is keeping watch over the night."
