video; un: ushiromiya (cw: mentions of house fires, arson, murder)
So for those not in the know, our house burned down last month.
[ What a way to open a post, right. And yet Ange manages to say it with something very close to a pokerface. Those who know her well may see something at its edges though. An annoyance that starts to bleed more and more into the girl's tone as she speaks on. ]
And not in the 'dumb accident' sense. No, it's because apparently it's socially acceptable in this place to come to someone's house and set it on fire, before bringing your friends inside to start murdering its inhabitants. [ Okay, yes. At this point it's not thiny veiled annoyance anymore. This is obvious annoyance that she doesn't bother to hide. ] And before anyone asks me if I'm alright— I'm fine. Totally fine. I mean, I half-turned into a beast back there, but it's clearly cool. It's fine.
[ It's clearly not fine. The sarcasm is thick.
Though Ange seems to realise that's not why she was supposed to make this message, and manages to snap herself out of passive-aggressive-ville for just long enough to sigh and sound a little bit more neutral as she speaks on. ]
Anyway, we want to rebuild the house, but that's obviously something we need help with. None of us are exactly architects.. I think. I've learned to not question weird Remnant hobbies. [ You never know what those Remnant people are capable of. ] Not to mention we'd need help with the actual physical rebuilding itself too.
We could use help from a lot of people, so if anyone would be willing to help, that'd be great.

[ What an awkward subject to stumble across. Time to just try to sidestep it... ]
Fortunately, the situation wasn't so dire in my case. It didn't even escape the lab proper.
[ Just impersonated and severely traumatized Fiddleford in the process of escaping. Regardless, hopefully it reassures Ange he's not planning to create a basement that's easily escaped from. ]
But even if I spoke with care and played down the scale and scope of my work, I think I'd give off a similar impression. People tend to be distrustful of things they don't immediately understand.

[ Nothing she can really say against that. Not when Ange was bullied at school for talking to spirits no one else could see, or anything.. Not like she's got experience with that exact thing.. ]
Probably less so here though, right? I mean, we're surrounded by weird things every single day. [ Hence why she focused on his wording. It's what could still make it seem a little skeevy, even here. ] I can't imagine someone sees giant monsters in the ocean here or giant holes opening up in the ground and yet still say, "ah, yes, that old sciency guy is definitely the weirdest thing I've come across in this place."
[ Or does Ford actually have experience with that here?
Are certain people just that ridiculous. ]

... Well. I wouldn't say that that I've been called the weirdest thing anyone has come across.
But a lot of Sleepers doesn't have any experience with the supernatural or things like blood magic whatsoever. They can be a little uncertain when someone else talks about these subjects like they're common place.

.. or maybe it's just that Ange's own weird background made it so much easier to just roll with all the ridiculous concepts she was presented with in this place. That might be it too, honestly. ]
I casually tell people I'm a witch all the time. It still sometimes lets me feel like I'm a normal person in comparison to the person I'm speaking to. [ Because some people are something so, so much wilder than a witch.
Being a witch feels like a common trope in comparison, especially with the sheer number of representatives in this place. ]
