That's a name he knows from their, Jinx and Vi's, past and the circumstances in which he learned it has him grinding his teeth down together hard to try to curb some of the rage he's suddenly got.

He can't forget Vi's complete upset about him that day on the beach, after he'd arrived briefly. How could he? He beat the crap out of her (mutually, but still) basically on request, because it was the only thing that would help her in that moment. All of that guilt and anger. He got it--he's the same fucking way and a beat down makes everything feel a little better, but it was still fucked up. Dude's name puts a really fucking bad taste in his mouth now.]

I don't give a shit what that guy says.

[That's the most he can do to NOT rock the boat, for Vi's sake. Katsuki doesn't hold back, but sometimes... when it's for the well being of his friends? He can try.]

(what an one-eighty mood swing this is now; the way she speaks of him is gentle -- however there's sorrow in those words too if one listens closely. there's a bittersweet chuckle before she talks again:)

[well that's a quote. she can't dispute silco said it - if her sister remembers it word for word then yes, there's a hundred and ten percent chance it's on the nose, but it's a nose she wouldn't mind punching - except she's lost that chance, and worse - she'd called a bit of a truce, and she meant to uphold her end of it.

but there's a bitter taste in her mouth, too. it's a phantom trace of corruption lingering on her tongue - a reminder of other things he said. things that were outright lies. like telling jinx that vi was only looking for that gemstone.

[Sure is a one-eighty. Katsuki's starting to get used to that kind of thing, when it comes to Jinx. Not just from today's interaction either. From the moment he met her, it's been this way. It's why he always has his guard up with her, and why he sounds a little closed off now that the nature of the conversation has changed so drastically.

He can't even begin to really unpack either of their baggage. There's a LOT of it, and he's mostly only dealt with Vi's end of it. His bias towards his friend is absolute here, and he knows that. Katsuki may seem like a hot-headed brat, but he's also capable of being the opposite. Level headed. He knows when to separate his own bullshit from the rest and look at things objectively. Not just that though, Katsuki has been in those very shoes (though the betrayal he felt was misguided, as it turned out), and so he can see the merit in the lesson Jinx speaks about.]

So which is it? Broken, or somethin' greater?

Greater, obviously! — I set up what my Old man wanted me to do. Couldn't finished it 'cuz, y'know, the squid thing. But I brought his dream into a reality.

Help bring independence to my people! I use to live in Zaun. Filled with smog, creaky pipes, sketchy alleyways, rats for roommates, big guys pickin' on the lil' guys, and moldy food. We were the city from below while Piltover was the city up above. Shieldin' us away from everyone 'cuz we were a bad look.

(there's some shifting on her end. probably trying to get more comfortable.)

— We weren't allowed up there, y'know. But I snuck up there a few times. The Enforcers would sometimes come down to visit us whenever they felt we were out of line. Shimmer gets a bad rep and all but the truth is as someone who has it in their bloodstream, it's fuckin' amazing. I feel so... powerful and invincible. Like I can do everythin' and anythin' I want without gettin' held back.

(ah, she's sidetracking a bit.)

Anyway, I nabbed the stone from the academy 'cuz it'll help Silco's vision. Built the weapon, inserted the crystal, and... KA-BOOM. ... I show 'em all. Just like he promised.
