Um. I think I've learned how to use my Darkblood powers.

The only question now is how do I turn them off?!

[Nosferatmew and Mewnos: The Paws of Fate float on past the screen, each batcat not flapping its wings as a variety of other things in Lexi's bedroom float past Lexi, the batcats completely chill.

Powers, I am afraid, don't come with an on-and-off switch. Even if that would be helpful. What you seek is control. You need to shore up your mental state, telekinesis usually responds to your emotions and what is going on in your mind at the time.

...what precisely are your abilities?

[The summoning of animals? The ability to make them float? The...Maria can't even tell what exactly that is on the bed so she'll stop there.]

And in what way do you wish to test them?

Telekinesis, right? That was the first power I realized I had back home. [ for all that the discovery of her abilities had ruined her life, it had been a magical moment before it all crumbled down on her ] Maul's right: it's all about control. Mine can go haywire when I'm under a lot of stress or excited.

You might benefit from meditation. [ says the girl who definitely hates to meditate ]

[ Yup, those are Darkblood powers, alright. Ange recognizes them the moment she sees them. Even if it's not the main way her own Darkblood powers manifested, she still figures it's got to be similar enough that the same things might work for the other. ]

Okay...I used to be great at hiding my feelings back home, 'cause mom and Cassie came first, but I guess I've been kind of letting my guard down.

Well. I'm a Darkblood. As far as I know, I have the potential to, uh. Warp reality, induce hallucinations, and well. That. [she points to a journal and a pen floating nearby. fortunately the journal is kept shut by one of those little elastic bands] I was able to do reality-warping once, but that was out of panic, not 'cause I was trying to do it. This...this is brand new.

Yeah. I'm a Darkblood, that's supposed to...come with the territory, I guess. And, um. How haywire?

[envisioning nightmare scenarios of all of her stuff floating to the top to the ceiling, then dropping en masse]

Like, yoga or Buddhist meditation?

[sure are! and Lexi experiences a moment of panic as Nosferatmew and Mewnos fly past again, completely without using their wings.

I know, but I didn't want to impose. And there's this weird thing in my room. Here. [she jerks her thumb back to indicate the egg-like thing in the bed]

Oh, just smashing shit. I've shattered a few photo frames and thrown things across a room without meaning to. You know, just telekinetic things. [ no biggie ]

Yeah, yoga might work if it helps you center yourself. I'm honestly awful at meditating, brains too active, but I've been working on it.

You know you never would!

Huh. Yeah. What IS that thing?

Oh. Jeez. Well, uh, lemme get started on trying to bring Mewnos and Nosferatmew down safely.

Okay. Batcats. Time to reenter earth orbit. [and the batcats slowly start sinking to the ground, Lexi reaching for the leashes to their harnesses as soon as they get close enough]

That's my problem, too. I'm, like. Always waiting for the other shoe to drop and planning ahead so it won't. [a pause] I tried pot all of once and instead of relaxing me, it kind of turned off my brain's filter and all of the awful came rushing in at once. Never again.

[Lexi breathes a sigh of relief]

I know. I'm just so glad I can count on you.

It looks like something out of "Alien," doesn't it? Creepy.

Yeah, you can. Even though I totally said I was going to look for a teacher for you and forgot.

[Luz is definitely feeling dumb for not remembering that].

Yeah, really. Where did that thing come from?

No, no it's okay! I kind of...lost most of a month.

[and she really shouldn't be!]

Uh. Would you believe I woke up in it?

You seem to be figuring it out. [ she's impressed. ]

Oh, it does the opposite for me. It makes my brain shut up for a bit. Then again, it might be because I have a goal when I smoke so I get focused on the goal instead of everything else.

It's easier said than done with turning them off.

How do you want to test them?

You and me both, actually. I think I owe you a dinner date where I can give you a proper showering of affection!

[She's really missed Lexi, and there has been a LOT going on this month].

Well, I didn't want something bad to happen to them. They're still babies. [they are not, in fact, still kittens. but they're awfully cute]

Really? I hadn't thought about trying that. But it's probably a moot point since I'm pretty sure there isn't any pot here.

...well, uh. Volunteers for the other Darkblood stuff. Nothing too awful, worst I'd do was make you think you were in my high school. [a pause] Okay, my high school was pretty awful.

[gently teasing] I think you do. And then I can shower you with affection, too!

[and she didn't know anything about it, given that she was in the cocoon]

Well. I went to sleep one night, but didn't wake up until just before my brain decided to turn the whole thing into Poltergeist.

Yay! It's been a really REALLY hard month.

[Enough that Luz knew she'd probably have some stories of Lexi. Luz just...was not one for avoiding trouble.

This though, definitely made her curious].

Poltergeist?! That movie with the skeletons and the scary clown?! What happened in the, uh, cocoon?

I'll let you in on a little secret: there absolutely is pot here. And I happen to have some.

Mmm. I see.

[She's still not used to how casually such things can be spoken of, but she'll keep that to herself. It's not anyone else's job to acclimate her.]
