Considering a lot of things stopped being new to me a long time ago... that's new. Kind of intimidating, too.

But that does make me curious. With your age, do you actually physically age?

No. Though I can shift my form fairly easily, so I can look whatever age I want.

I'm forever 19. No wrinkles, no greys. I can't change my features without a little bit of makeup and great styling.

[ it does make katherine sad on the very rare day. the last time she felt bad about not ageing was around one hundred and fifty or so years ago. it barely comes and it mostly goes. ]

Does that mean you're a shapeshifter?

Not exactly. Part of getting stronger was eating weak and shitty ghosts and taking their powers, so I picked up transformation magic somewhere in there. Never managed to make it work on someone else, but it makes for a great disguise.

Live long enough and you make a few enemies worth hiding from.

Aren't they impossible to touch?

Scratch that. What do they taste like?

Depends on the ghost. Mostly disgusting. Resentment and death. Dry bone, unwept tears, stale blood. But once their energy is my energy it's worth it.

Still. Rather have some good soup. With noodles.

Soup with noodles does sound very nice.

Do you feel energized for a long time? Or is it like how hunger usually works for the more mundane body?

Neither. It increases my power — sometimes I even gain whatever abilities that ghost was cultivating. Most of what I picked up didn't make it to Trench.

I suppose it also feels pretty good. Like drinking wine.

That sounds both very useful and very dangerous. Ghosts are just ghosts back home. They're there; they're nothing special even if you were to try and eat them.

Do you have any of those powers you ate before the Trench now?

Not really. Apparently the cephalopod rebirth takes its toll. Everything is all about blood now - perhaps if I drank blood I'd start picking up new things.

If you ever want to try, I can give you some tips on how to make the blood taste a little nicer. Sometimes it's a little on the sour side depending on the type.

Making blood taste a little sexy is kind of a thing we do, especially when you have to drink it for centuries.
