We were... I believe the modern term is girlfriend.

We loved one another very much. [They had talked about a family and weddings when they both felt ready. Now she wishes that feeling of readiness had come sooner...] I love her still. And I am grateful for every day spent with her.

I... thank you for the condolences. We both knew either of us could return to the sea and even home at any point.

I have no regrets on how much we loved one another or how our time was spent... only that I wish I had more of it.
