Uh...hey. I'm Qrow. If you don't know me from Deerington, I'm a Huntsman. Which--mostly means I've fought a lot of monsters and sh--[hm. children.]...crap like that.

So anyway, it's halfway through October, and the streets aren't overflowing with blood and corpses, and far as I know nobody's gotten eaten by monsters or lost their mind and gone on a murdering rampage. But that probably just means the town's waiting for us to let our guard down.

[Or maybe that's just paranoia. But Qrow would rather err on the side of paranoia rather than complacence, considering his last October.]

Point is, now seems like as good a time as any to learn to defend yourself if you don't already know how to fight. I uh, I used to teach teenagers in a combat school, a few years ago? So I've got some experience.

...Don't expect a lot, I quit for a reason--[that reason being, honestly, Ruby getting admitted to Beacon a full two years early, but shhh]--but you can get the basics down.

This is, ah, definitely a particularly feral child, though. The paleblood headaches aren't so bad when he's at the Clockhouse with Ozpin, but he is feeling one coming on already. This is karma for how feral he was at seventeen, he's sure of it.]

He's offering this largely as an offshoot of his own anxieties about October, something productive to do when there are in fact no mass invasion of monsters to kill or Sleepers that have gone unhinged to worry about. But it doesn't ease that part of him that gets nervous about bearing a large amount of responsibility for people who will necessarily be inexperienced at best at defending themselves should anything go wrong.]

I'm just saying I'm not exactly anyone's ideal teacher or anything, but I've got skills and experience and nobody else is offering, so it's better than nothing.

only went through one, but it was just like everyone else said it would be
all the water in your tap and shower turned to blood and the street flooded with it every night at midnight
you couldn't sleep at all and if you couldn't restock your supplies without having to fight monsters for 'em
pretty sure the moon had eyes too or some shit and it got weird if you looked at it
to top it all off we had monsters from our original world and one of them can possess people
so getting murdered by my possessed sister was just a fun added bonus for me
always like to go above and beyond, right

Just about everything, but as you mighta noticed by now, what I use most is a scythe.

Well...for one, they're drawn to negative emotions, in particular, but anything with a soul can attract them, pretty much. They can take just about any shape you can think of, but the one thing they all share in common is that they've got black bodies, bone-white masks, and red eyes. And an instinct for chaos and destruction. Unlike an animal, you can't calm a Grimm down, and you definitely can't reason with one like a person. You either got to run and hide, or you fight.

...They turn to ash when they're killed, which is the about only thing about monsters in Deerington and Trench that's worse. Monster corpses are gross as hell.
