It is odd - coming up to my first month here, it has been the longest I have ever stayed in a single place for quite some time. As the colder season approaches, one must rapidly come to terms with the fact an itinerant lifestyle is no longer sustainable. After all, the jaws of winter claim far more than the jaws of beasts.
Fortunately, I have found a suitable residence in Ache - according to the locals, the former owner was taken about five years ago by something dreadful and it has remained empty ever since.
The farmhouse does cut a rather peculiar sight - a newer building conjoined onto a significantly older one and though both are in dire need of repairs, the older structure has weathered its neglect far better than the newer one. For now, I am staying in the old building, but I would much prefer to repurpose it into a proper apothecary, and use the newer structure as living quarters.
If there is anyone with tools or the skills to help with the needed repairs, I have several means of compensation, including incense, medicine, omamori, blood jewels, and food from the cherry, chestnut and persimmon trees, and various gourds growing around the farmhouse.
For the extent of the damage, I have taken some photographs. I apologize for any poor quality; I am rather new to using a camera.

The kitchen area is relatively undamaged. But this is about the only part of the newer building that has not been dealt a terrible blow.

The tatami room has seen the worst of it; it seems this is where whatever took the previous owner broke in. As you can see the damage is extensive. The bathroom is also what one might describe as 'in a state'. Upstairs, the damage is more manageable, though I would appreciate any assistance in getting rid of the musty old furniture.
On a brighter note; with the new lifestyle that comes with my arrival to Trench and being, quite literally, stripped of most of my worldly possessions, I have finally gotten around to updating my wardrobe to be more in line with current, 20th century fashions. It is a shame I could not find one of those cloche hats that are so popular among young people these days, however. They are quite fetching.
I would ask the opinion of the more fashion forward among you if I have gotten the style correct; I would rather not be mistaken for a sandwich board salesman ever again.

You know, I think I rather like playing with the camera on this.

If you're still looking for a contractor I live in Ache and have a background in construction.

But if you have a background in construction, however, even an assessment would be most helpful. I am particularly concerned with regards to several of the supports; there is, as one would expect, rot, but I have no means of finding out how deeply it goes.

Not a problem, I can have a look for you. From the sound of it though, old and rot mean big structural damage and a lot of replacing.

It seems it has not made it deeper into the house from the tatami room, and I would prefer to keep it from spreading.
For now, I will work on removing the debris, and you can stop by at your leisure and name your price.

Let's see what needs fixing first. How about tomorrow morning around 9?
You mentioned you're building an apothecary, what's the story there?
no subject
I am afraid it is not a very exciting story. I am a medicine seller, after all.
no subject
Well, then I guess it's only right.
Homeopathic I take it?

no subject
I don't mean to offend, you just didn't take me for the big pharma type. What kind of medicine do you sell?
no subject
Though what exactly is big pharma? I am not sure why I would have anything against a large pharmacy, unless there is some connotation there I am missing.
As for medicine, I sell herbal remedies for simpler ailments, as well as a selection of tonics, powders, poultices, ointments and the sort.
I am also well versed in treatments for more severe afflictions, though they are not the sort of thing I would simply sell. Such things require a degree of finesse to administer.

Wisely he keeps his damn mouth shut. For once.]
No sir, never heard of him. My name is Raleigh.
By big pharma I mean corporations with big labs and lots of doctors. Synthesized pills, very expensive, that kind of thing. That doesn't sound like what you're describing.
no subject
I can see how corporations having a vested interest in medicine could be troublesome. Such a thing would cease to be about the treatment and well-being of people, and become entirely about profit.
However, I am not sure what the issue with synthesizing pills would be? Most medicine requires a good deal of refinement, if only to make it safe to administer.

Where I come from we call what you do traditional medicine.
I don't know, when I hurt I go to a doctor and I take what helps, it doesn't really matter what it is. We lost one of our best a while back, I'm glad we're getting more healer types in town, especially out in Ache. You've probably noticed we have a monster problem. Fire only goes so far, you know?

You live in Feed.
no subject
Why the hell do you know where I live?
no subject
I know because I'm in Ache, and I've seen you stealing our rosemary.
no subject
I didn't steal anything and that doesn't answer the question.
Why do you know where I live.
no subject
But it's fine, cause I followed you home and stole your mushrooms. Makes a great casserole, by the way.
no subject
That's been you?? What the hell, Dean!
I thought I was going crazy
no subject
what the HELL, RALEIGH
no subject
I DIDN'T KNOW YOU LIVE THERE
I thought it was abandoned
no subject
[ wtf ]
Dude, it looks like a cabin outta better homes and gardens. On what PLANET does that look abandoned?
1/2
Well excuse me Martha Stewart. I just looked around for a bit and didn't see anyone.
2/2
For real though, I'm sorry man. My bad, I would never have grabbed it if I thought someone lived there.
