It is odd - coming up to my first month here, it has been the longest I have ever stayed in a single place for quite some time. As the colder season approaches, one must rapidly come to terms with the fact an itinerant lifestyle is no longer sustainable. After all, the jaws of winter claim far more than the jaws of beasts.

Fortunately, I have found a suitable residence in Ache - according to the locals, the former owner was taken about five years ago by something dreadful and it has remained empty ever since.

The farmhouse does cut a rather peculiar sight - a newer building conjoined onto a significantly older one and though both are in dire need of repairs, the older structure has weathered its neglect far better than the newer one. For now, I am staying in the old building, but I would much prefer to repurpose it into a proper apothecary, and use the newer structure as living quarters.

If there is anyone with tools or the skills to help with the needed repairs, I have several means of compensation, including incense, medicine, omamori, blood jewels, and food from the cherry, chestnut and persimmon trees, and various gourds growing around the farmhouse.

For the extent of the damage, I have taken some photographs. I apologize for any poor quality; I am rather new to using a camera.

The kitchen area is relatively undamaged. But this is about the only part of the newer building that has not been dealt a terrible blow.

The tatami room has seen the worst of it; it seems this is where whatever took the previous owner broke in. As you can see the damage is extensive. The bathroom is also what one might describe as 'in a state'. Upstairs, the damage is more manageable, though I would appreciate any assistance in getting rid of the musty old furniture.

On a brighter note; with the new lifestyle that comes with my arrival to Trench and being, quite literally, stripped of most of my worldly possessions, I have finally gotten around to updating my wardrobe to be more in line with current, 20th century fashions. It is a shame I could not find one of those cloche hats that are so popular among young people these days, however. They are quite fetching.

I would ask the opinion of the more fashion forward among you if I have gotten the style correct; I would rather not be mistaken for a sandwich board salesman ever again.

You know, I think I rather like playing with the camera on this.

[And here, the Medicine Seller could have a first experience with the stupidity that was troll texting. At least Equius was in a helpful mood!]

D --> I believe that I can supply parts as required for repairs
D --> To an e%tent I have some of the skills necessary though my specialty is advanced engineering and robotics
D --> A trade could probably be managed

D --> I have no understanding of human fashion so I will refrain from comment on the latter

Oh, how terrible... Both that the previous owner was lost and the damage to their home.
I'm not so good specifically with repairs, but I can certainly offer to help clean, if you need it! It might help to organize what can be salvaged versus what should be thrown out or entirely repurposed.

Hello! I'd be more than happy to help you. I might be able to help with some of the heavier lifting, as long as you don't mind a stray breeze or two!

But I'm curious about the compensation... you wouldn't happen to have good taste in drinks, would you?

I can see how that would be true...

Firewood is still plenty useful, with winter on its way, at least. I'd be happy to help, and if there's anything you really wish could be fixed or cleaned, I'll do my very best.

If you're still looking for a contractor I live in Ache and have a background in construction.

Not a problem, I can have a look for you. From the sound of it though, old and rot mean big structural damage and a lot of replacing.

[Japanese, huh. That's interesting. Something familiar.]

Let's see what needs fixing first. How about tomorrow morning around 9?

You mentioned you're building an apothecary, what's the story there?

Well, then I guess it's only right.

Homeopathic I take it?

I'd say at least it isn't boring, but I think many people would prefer boring to dangerous.

Oh, it's no stress at all! I'd be happy to help with both. :)

[Hahnemann... Hahnemann, Hahnemann, Hahnemann. No idea.]

I don't mean to offend, you just didn't take me for the big pharma type. What kind of medicine do you sell?

[So it's a...yes on the homeopathic??

Wisely he keeps his damn mouth shut. For once.]

No sir, never heard of him. My name is Raleigh.

By big pharma I mean corporations with big labs and lots of doctors. Synthesized pills, very expensive, that kind of thing. That doesn't sound like what you're describing.

[personal profile] righthemisphere 2021-11-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's less about the labs and process than it is about the profits. That's the evil.

Where I come from we call what you do traditional medicine.

I don't know, when I hurt I go to a doctor and I take what helps, it doesn't really matter what it is. We lost one of our best a while back, I'm glad we're getting more healer types in town, especially out in Ache. You've probably noticed we have a monster problem. Fire only goes so far, you know?

For fighting the monsters. Never mind, it made more sense in my head.

If you could do me a favor, though, and not let that stuff leech towards my farm? I've got crops and animals out here.
