Turning 21 has been a completely underrated experience. I was expecting the blackout and loss of time. Even the warping to a new place isn't out of the realm of estimated probability.

But being genetically altered is a plot twist. I assume it is so we can fuck the monsters.

I call dibs on the raven dude.

I'm a Darkblood, but not that kind.

Or, I should say, I still don't know what kind I am. Though as you say, much is possible here.

[It didn't embarrass him to admit he hadn't figured that mystery out. Whatever his blood was doing for him aside from being a valuable trade good and rendering him part-alive remained inscrutable.

So long as all the abilities he'd brought with him continued to work (or not) exactly as they always had, it hadn't been a high priority. Blood magic as much as magecraft did require effort and study, and he didn't have that time (yet) to devote to the self-exploration.
]

Right. You'd said that. [Absorbing all this information by listening to the Omni dictate was not as good for his memory as being able to read it, but that had been out of the question to start.] What color is an Oscar?

Humans died off entirely? What did the gods do?
["Petty reasons". Esfir would be in a (playful) fit to hear something like that about anyone's gods. This should be interesting.]

How did you meet each other? And did the two of you jointly adopt your uncle? [The last's a little teasing; this...stirs something in him he can't identify, a heartsickness for home and family and custom. The notion of patchworking a family together is very orcish and very lovely in its way, but a shrike's context was his line and Illarion's was broken.

Had been broken, even before his death.

Right, don't mull on that. That's a quick route to corruption.

The gods kinda cursed a grieving woman with immortality for trying to bring her boyfriend back to life... and she then used that immortality to turn the world against each other so badly that humanity destroyed itself.

We came back from the Dust that was left behind.

[Why yes, Remnant's own history and mythos is horribly stupid once it's brought down to it's bare bones. Oscar knew all this-- but he had to live with it.]

That info isn't common knowledge back home, but my friends and I here aren't exactly ordinary by the standards there either.

We all met because we're trying to stop that woman who started all this in the first place. She can't die, but I think she's so desperate for an end that she's willing to destroy the world for it. Since we've got monsters that hunt us down for our great emotions, we're already in trouble anyway.

In situations like that, you end up making your own family. Families that you choose I think hold together better than ones you are born into. Not that blood isn't important, but choice< carries more weight.

Ruby's uncle is her uncle, though. Her family's a little messed up, and there's twins involved... but, again. It's choice. Uncle Qrow chose to be there as an uncle, so that's what he is.

To all of us.
