What's up.
Are we doing introductions now? I guess we're doing introductions.
Name's Anna. Professional city defender and mostly robot girl.
Coming here from a place called Recolle that I'm pretty sure no one here knows about, which is cool.
Never been much for stuff like this, so, like, I don't know.
Anyone needs a katana at their side, look me up. I'm pretty damn good at it.
I might not know what's going on here, but far as I'm concerned, this is where I live now and it makes sense for everyone if I actually try to keep it safe.
And since I'm in full spaghetti at the wall mode right now, lemme just throw out some words, see if it triggers anything for any of you guys.
Zee Carlisle. Clarence Vanderweele. Layers of reality. Retrospec.
The Geteilts.
Nothing?
Yeah, didn't think so.
Anyway, yeah, flag me down if you see me on the streets and need some protection or whatever. I'm five ten and I only have one eye. I'm hard to miss.

Sounds like you came from a wild place.

This is how we can fight back against our oppressors.

But I'm not liking my odds so far.
Let me guess, you're another Deerington transplant?

[She can't help the curiosity, but presumably if Anna was concerned about being questioned about it, she never would have brought it up in the first place.]
I'm Willow. I'm not much of a fighter, but I know a little bit about robotics, so if I can help, I will. Nice to meet you.

It's complicated. Do me a solid and don't end up inheriting someone else's soul.
no subject
I have no immediate plans for soul-inheriting. I've got my own already, thanks.

Another Deerington refugee, huh? How many of you made it out of that dream or whatever and ended up here?
Is that basically the whole town except for me?

Nice swordplay in there.
Glad to see you on dry land. Any more exciting nautical adventures since then?

you know just fought some crabs before making it to shore
shore's better at least. nothing tried to kill me except the monsters

These ones don't even pretend to be dead until your guard's down so they can start fighting again. Like, how am I supposed to take them seriously?
These beasts are way easier to deal with.
...A lot bloodier than I'm used to, though. You notice that?

But I may be able to explain a few things about where we came from, and why we might be here.
no subject
All I've heard so far is something that I didn't understand much of with a child and a dream.
And how this is supposed to be the real world under that dream, and how nobody's sure if they actually made the right choices back in Deerington.

no subject
This kid Oscar told me that Deerington used to be a dream inside of a child's head, and that this place is supposed to be what the real world looks like.
Seems like everyone is confused about whether they made the right choices and could actually save the kid or not.
It also sounds like a lot of you were inside that dream for a while -- like you said, three years, you know. And that's a lot of time for weird stuff to happen.
Lots of time to learn everything about how the world works, but if it all gets snatched away from you at the last second then what the hell, right?
Who knows anything about anything anymore?

Vira-Lorr. A pleasure, Miss Mostly Robot. And you are not wrong. Shared defense is generally a good idea around here. We haven't had much trouble, yet.
Yet is very much the important word in that sentence.
no subject
And yeah, I figure everything is too new for us to have anything going wrong yet.
What with the skeleton shitpost kicking the network off, like, three days ago.
If this place is anything like Recolle, I'm gonna keep an eye out for new weird shit happening every month. Same bat time, different bat channel.
Should be any day now.
no subject
Forgive me, but you mention monthly occurrences and that does pique my interest. Was this Recolle a place where people appeared from other worlds, forced to deal with monthly dilemmas of some sort? Because you are definitely not the first I've encountered who saw one before arriving here.
no subject
We got a special app installed on our phone that meant we'd been awoken to the greater world.
It was all Recolle citizens, and if you moved too far away from the city then you'd lose all your memories of it. And everything that made you who you were.
Which is a little stipulation that I might have forgotten about until right now, which is cool.

Used to be able to drink. Now my body can't process the booze anymore so I'm drinking it for the taste.
Pretty sure it's the same deal with food. Spaghetti included.
