[ There has been a great deal of things that Sasuke has learned about in the few weeks he's been here just from talking to new people. All of them have been extremely confusing concepts, like therapy and the idea that people take care of children when they don't have anyone else to take care of them.
Some of these conversations where he's learned things have ended in more questions than answers. He could ask for more clarification from the few he's already made contact with, but the more possible answers he can get, the better. He thinks.
He hopes.
This could be a mistake. ]
How would you suggest someone improve their communication skills?
If your go to response is "talk to people", spare me. I'm only interested in more thorough answers.

What's the hardest for you about communicating? That might be a good place to start!

[ ................................................. That question. Give him a minute. Or five. ]
Talking.
no subject
And you know what???? They can't!!!!!!!!
So that's why I think it's cool that you're asking. Good for you!!!!!
Alright, so what about talking is difficult? Is it that you don't know what to say, or you can't make your mouth say what your brain wants to say, or something else?
no subject
[ Focus, Sasuke. ]
I don't like it. Particularly when I feel there's nothing to say.
[ AKA: When there is definitely supposed to be something he should say, but he's not interested in it and then suddenly someone is pissed at him :| ]
no subject
[ Fair question, but this is just who he is. ]
Okay, okay, when does that happen? Is it in important conversations, or do you not like small talk?
no subject
Yes.
no subject
Right. Okay there buddy. Which one do you want to improve on more? Small talk or the important stuff?
no subject
Small talk. The important things sometimes spill out when they need to on their own.
[ That's not... That's not good skills, Sasuke, but okay. ]
no subject
Great!! Small talk is low stakes so it's probably a good place to start anyway.
So with small talk the point is to get to know people! And it can be kind of boring like "oh how are you, weather's great today!" so what I like to do is ask people about stuff that I'm interested in, like what their world is like, what music they like, what they find interesting!
Figure out what you're interested in and ask them about that! Then you can talk about it too. Like me? I could talk about music forever!
no subject
What kind of music?
[ Is he doing this right ]
no subject
At home I loooove the jazz and crooners. They're so smooth and fun and you can cut a rug to them like it's no one's business!!
But since I've been here, I've really gotten into Earth popular music. Like Lil Nas X and Beyoncé!!!! Are you from Earth? Do you know them??
[ Wait wait he gets it now ]
Hey that was good!!! A great question. Now you would answer my questions or talk about what music you like! And bam! Small talk
no subject
At least it's a starting point. ]
I see...
I'm not from a place called Earth, no. I haven't heard any of their music. My parents listened to classical and theater music, so it's mostly what I know.
no subject
What world are you from? Does it have a name? Mine doesn't really have a name, it's just the world we live on.
You don't have music you like yourself??? Just your parent's music??
[ Well now they're just having a conversation! Good for you, Sasuke. Great work. ]
no subject
We've called it the earth, but not really given it an official name like that. Mostly we just refer to our different villages and the land they inhabit since it's more pertinent.
[ Does he have his own music tastes? He can't actually remember. After everything, he never exactly stopped to listen to things for leisure. Uhhh... ]
I liked to play classical music on the flute. But that may have been because my parents liked it. I don't know. I haven't listened to music in a long time.
no subject
That's like where I'm from! We have our nations, but no name for the whole world except, well, the world!
You should check out some Earth music!! There are so many different types, I bet you'll find something you like.
[ Don't mind him just linking some songs he likes. ]
Do you still play??? I run a venue!! Anybody can play here on an open mic night. It's a great way to perform, and to meet other Sleepers!
no subject
[ If he clicks on these (there's a high chance that it's never gonna happen) he at least will make a note to tell him if he liked them, because that's probably what you're supposed to do. ]
I don't. [ BE SPECIFIC, that's what someone else said, right? ] Losing an arm put a damper on those kinds of things.
no subject
Right right right I guess it does!!! I'm sorry that you lost your arm. Do you have a prosthetic? Is that rude to ask? I just know a lot of people here have them! Losing limbs is sort of a hazard of living in Trench [ and Deerington, as it were ]
And either way, you should come by!! First drink's on the house. [ That... isn't actually a protocol but Wu likes to give out free stuff, much to Mako's chagrin ]
no subject
Thank you. That's very generous of you, though it seems a possibly poor business choice.
no subject
You sound like Mako. It's a great business choice if people come back!!!! I'm creating a welcoming environment where my customers are valued members of my community!!!!
no subject
I don't know who Mako is, but he's probably right. It sounds more like a good way to get people to take advantage of you.
no subject
Ugh!! Don't tell him that. Please??? He gets so annoying when he's right. And I still think I'm right. I bet you'll come for that free drink!!!
