Good afternoon,

I’m Winter Schnee and I’m in need of assistance. This is not a D.A.R.T. matter or related to public safety, it’s a personal matter. I need to know if there is anyone that has information regarding the care of a Warg. For the most part I’m familiar with the diet she had previously, but I’m not certain about the frequency or the amount of exercise and training that I should be providing for her. And I’m doubtful of some of the answers that she has provided me.

In addition, I’m in search of a plumber and carpenter to take care of damages that were recently sustained to our house.

Finally, for anyone that was attempting to reach me in the past weeks, I am now monitoring the network once more and will resume my usual responsibilities at this time. If there is a matter that requires my attention please notify me as soon as possible.

Ah.. thanks. [ It's kind of nice for Winter to think about them, even though stuff must surely be hard for her right now. ] I'll stop by to pick some up. It's sure been..

[ Ange pauses, trying to find the right word. ]

Rowdy.

[ See: dealing with Remnant ~~family~~ drama is exhausting, Winter. ]

So I appreciate you helping out, even if it's just in this way.

I've noticed, but I've thought it best for me to not comment or intervene.

[She most likely wouldn't have been welcome, and well her opinion and input generally went against what most of that particular crowd would agree with as well. So she had remained abreast of the situations but not interfered since it wasn't her place.]

Besides, I won't have a need for incense. There are enough hunters to take care of most monsters in this area, and I'll be able to keep anything that comes at bay.

[ Honestly, Ange doesn't think that's a bad decision on Winter's part. The entire situation seemed messy to begin with - it's why Ange didn't try to meddle in it a whole lot either, leaving it to those most involved.

But the other decision Winter seems to be making here.. ]

.. are you sure?

[ Ange's voice sounds a tad more careful than usually. She's never fully deadpan when it comes to other people's safety, no matter what she might pretend. ]

I mean.. Don't misunderstand. I don't intend to downplay your ability. [ Everyone from that world seems so amazing when it comes to fighting, after all. ] But this place.. it tends to catch us by surprise. It can be really dangerous. I don't think it can hurt to look after yourself a little more than you usually would.

[ Especially with Rei gone, Ange thinks.

But she doesn't say it out loud.

At least her tone doesn't sound scolding. At most, it just sounds like gentle advice, though that's not quite a common tone on Ange of all people either. ]

There are more people staying at your location, so it makes the most sense for it have additional protection and resources to protect the effects of corruption and influence of this place.

[Winter's tone remains cold and matter of fact, and she doesn't seem phased by the concern and sees no reason for Agne to worry about it.]

I'm a trained huntress and the Winter maiden. The incense is effective but if it is something that's a considerable threat to me then there is not much that it would likely do. There is also a high concentration of hunters in the area where I live as well, so it is not as if I will not have aid.

I get that. [ Again, honestly, it's not Winter's combat ability she's worried about. Anyone from Remnant could absolutely kick Ange's ass, and she knows it. ]

But the threat here.. isn't always like that.

[ That much is clear to Ange by now. ]

It's not always just something you can kick away. Some stuff here instead tries to get into your head. It tries to mess you up from the inside. [ And that is so much more dangerous, in Ange's opinion. ]

Yes and those who act on the emotion and impulse need more protection from it. I'm trained to deal with anything that might present itself, and know better than to let my emotions get the best of me.

[Even if they still did when she was prodded in just the right way. Something which Qrow seemed to have a knack for, as well as Ruby at times since she was taking after him.]

I'll keep some, but there is more than I would need for a single person.

[ There's still a little hesitance on Ange's part.

But then she just slowly says: ]

Okay.

[ Hopefully she can trust Winter when the other says that, and that the other truly knows her limits - and when to ask for help when she needs it.

It's something that's hard for Ange to determine when she doesn't know the other all that well, after all. ]

I could come over right now to pick it up, if you're home right now.

[There were very few people that Winter would ask for help, and sadly the last of them had just left. She might ask Ozpin for advice occasionally, but he was questionable. Qrow would only mock if she were to ask. Ruby had made it clear how she felt about soldiers and Atlas military personal, which Winter still identified with. She wasn't really sure who else there was.]

I'm currently at home, and do not plan on going anywhere else today, so you can come whenever you would like. Unless you would rather I meet you somewhere instead?

No, it's fine. I'll go over there now.

[ Since it'll also give her a good chance to check up on Winter too, Ange thinks. But she can keep that sneaky little intention to herself, lest people think she's nice or cares or something like that. ]

If you hear a knock on the door, it's me.

I'll be ready.

[Winter decided she might as well prepare once the call was over. She began to heat a kettle of water and get a little bit of tea ready. There wasn't really anything to go with it, but tea was something easy enough that Winter could manage it without issue. Iris pulled her attention to the door shortly before the knock, so Ange would have barely had time to pull her hand away before the door opened.]

Welcome.

[ Ange is a tad surprised by how quickly the door opens. But then again, maybe that in and of itself is a little like Winter - always ready to move into action.

So the faint surprise easily fades off Ange's face, leaving a tiny smile on her face instead as she greets the other. Ange seems dressed for the weather, wearing a cloak and all that, considering how cold bone season has been so far. ]

Thank you. [ She even nods her head a little, like a polite mini-version of a bow. ] I'm glad I could stop by this quickly. Can I walk inside without immediately falling through the floor?

[ Hey, she doesn't know exactly what about Winter's house got wrecked. ]

Yes, the damages are minor and confined to the master bathroom and back door. There was no structural damage to the property. And even if there had been this is a single-story on a solid foundation, you would have to worry more about something collapsing.

[With how things could have gone, the damage was rather light, just a brief moment where her emotions got the better of her and the powers of her blood leaked out. Winter showed her in, just past Iris and to the table where the tea was waiting.]

How are Ruby and the others?

Well, I mostly know how Ruby is doing. [ Ange remarks as she's heading over towards the table, before taking a seat. ] I haven't spoken much with the others, ever since they left the house.

[ If not just because Ange is just not socially capable enough at all to just.. randomly reach out.. So it leaves Ruby as her social main contact from Remnant in this moment. ]

.. it seems like she's having a bit of a hard time though, with everyone having left the house for a while. She's the only one there from you guys' world now, after all.

They moved out? I wasn't aware that everyone had decided to go their own way.

[It really was a testament to how out of touch Winter had been with everything. So involved and isolated in her own immediate concerns and bubble she hadn't been aware of the changes. She had assumed from the chats that they were all still there, together.]

Without her sister or the rest of her team, I can imagine how hard it has been. But she still has her uncle. And she still has you there to offer her support and strength, so she will be fine.

[A gloved hand reached out and grabbed the pot of tea, pouring a bit in each of the glasses.]

[ Ange tucks some hair behind her ear. ]

Only temporarily. [ Of course there aren't necessarily signs of it being temporary - especially with Qrow throwing such an open fit towards Willow. But Ange likes to believe it'll be temporarily. That tempers will soothe, and that everyone ought to be back together in the house again in just a few days.

She has to believe as much, if not just for Ruby's sake. And because Ange - deep down - misses the chaotic nature of having everyone in the same place as well. ]

That's what I'm worried about, you know? Because she doesn't have her uncle around in the same house, even if it's just for a while. Nor Oscar, who she treats like a little brother. [ Ange might not be making this point just for Ruby, even though it sounds like it.

After all, here Ange is, sitting at a table with someone who also seems pretty isolated right now, having lost someone important to her. But since Ange figures Winter might not appreciate worry that is expressed too openly, she figures this entirely indirect route might be better. ]

Not being as close to the people you care about here can be tough.

Perhaps you should have this conversation with Qrow then, he can be stubborn, insensitive, idiotic, and a drunk. But he cares deeply about his family, it is likely his only redeemable quality.

Though it's also proof that the instability of that house is in need of the incense far more than I am.

[Winter takes a sip of tea from her cup. This is why you kept things professional, why you didn't make it personal with those that you worked with.]

Being too close can be just as hard given the effects of some months.

[ She groans. Mostly at the suggestion to go talk to Qrow about it. After all, he seemed so set in his entire idea that Ange sincerely doubts the man would listen to her if she tried to talk it over with him.

It's what makes this conversation so difficult too, she thinks. No matter how close she has grown with Ruby, there's still a barrier between her and all the people important to Ruby. All the people from Remnant. Winter, too. Ange is still an outsider, and it feels like there are lines that she can't quite cross because of it.

Still, just leaving Winter alone with that thought feels.. wrong. But what can she do about it?

What would Ruby say or do, if she had been here? ]

I bet there are people worried about you though.

Not that I'm aware of. Other than Rei most of my contacts here have been limited to the job. Weiss has been gone for a long time, even when Clover was here we barely spoke, and Penny returned home a long time ago as well.

[Winter was still capable of fighting, she had not been injured or her ability to perform her duties compromised, so why would they worry?]

The only person that I communicate with regularly is the former director of FEAR, Vira-Lorr.

And Iris, but she seems to be more irritated than worried.

.. you don't think Ruby is worried about you? You know how much she cares about people.

[ To a surprising degree, really. It's exactly what Ange likes so much about the other girl - but it also makes for a very convenient cover right now.

It's easier than saying 'I'm worried about you,' after all, when Ange's dumb emotions are so worried about seeming overly invested in someone she might not know super well. She doesn't like showing just how soft she is. ]

And with everything that's happened..

[ With Rei leaving, Ange mostly means, though is tactful to not mention that directly. ]

I can't imagine there's no one thinking about you.

I know how much she cares about those who deserve it. If she's worried about me, then she shouldn't be. And her time and thoughts are best spent on more important things.

[And with everything that's happened, the only reason any of them should think about Winter was how she failed to stop Cinder. How she failed to save any of them. How even in Deerington she'd been on the General's side of things.]

Not many knew outside of her friends and those who Ruby might have told. And Usagi is busy missing Rei for her own reasons, she hasn't even been able to come by and claim a few of Rei's things she wanted.

[A small ring of frost formed around the edge of Winter's cup, stemming from the handle where she held it.]

No one should worry about me. I'll be fine, we had a plan for if this happened. We had accepted it was a possible outcome.

[It was just that Winter never expected for Rei to be the one to leave.]

[ Yikes. That ice on the cup? That can't be good. It's such a small thing, but Ange immediately notices it. Perhaps it's because she's so sensitive towards small signs, usually being the type to hide away everything.

But it's a sign that maybe Winter is already too far gone into her own misery to take advice from someone who might as well be a stranger. Maybe someone closer to her would be able to do more, but.. really, what can Ange do here?

Probably not much. ]

.. maybe we could make a deal?

[ Ange knows it's a bit of an odd thing to say now, so she quickly continues. ]

I can bring her stuff over to Usagi's place. [ She's been stopping by there a few times ever since Rei disappeared anyway, to check up on Usagi. ] In return..

[ Ange clasps her hands together, and as they glow with a golden light, she opens them slightly, only to let a small butterfly made out of golden light fly out of the gap. ]

Could you let my little friend here hang around? I know you have Iris, but this will also help warn you about danger. [ And - maybe more importantly - it will also give Ange a heads up if something is wrong with Winter. Or, well, more wrong than right now, anyway. ]

[Winter noticed as well, though she didn't mention it and simply covered the cup with her napkin. Something similar had happened with the sink, only it had frozen and burst the entire basin and pipe. Winter took a deep breath flexing her fingers a little, they were stiff.]

If you'd like, I could put it in a box to make it easier.

[As for the butterfly, Winter watched it. It seemed harmless enough, but she wasn't entirely certain.]

What does it do? Is it for surveillance or does it have some form of warding?

[ Ange nods at the mention of the box. That ought to make things a little easier to move around, especially since Ange isn't exactly the strongest person around..

But it's the other thing that she actually verbally replies to. ]

It's a little bit of both. [ The butterfly floats down, landing on Ange's hand. ] It can keep an eye on the surroundings of your house, and it'll let you know if anything resembling a threat is approaching. It'll fly over to you in a way that seems urgent.

Alright, I can accept that. Though I don't that will be an issue, if it will ease your mind a little it's a precaution that I'll take.

[If it didn't have a way to send information to Ange or record Winter's activities then it wasn't intrusive, and having an additional set of eyes wouldn't hurt in securing the perimeter of her home.]

[ Ease her mind, she means, though Ange is hesitant to say as much with as many words. She's just too easily embarrassed by displays of feelings to say that, so this is the closest she can get to admitting that.

She releases a breath, and then nods at Winter. Finishing up her drink, she stands up. ]
