[ boga's tail swishes around as obi-wan shakes his head at her, unbearably fond. ]

What sort of creature is she? I've never seen anything like her before.

[jedies]

She's a varactyl. She was a big help to me on my Utapau mission.

[demonicbeauty]

A...varactyl.

[Sounds lizard-like. Alastrians were once lizards themselves, according to the stories.

Ariadne decides to like Boga even more.]

What's a "Utapau?"

[jedies]

It's a planet. Mostly desert and farmland. To travel, the people often used animals rather than speeder bikes and technology.

[demonicbeauty]

Oh! Like horses! I see!

[A pause.]

Horses are a domesticated animal that the Elves use to travel long distances when they can't teleport. They're also considered status symbols.

[jedies]

[ he nods. ]

I'm familiar. We do have horses on other planets.

[demonicbeauty]

Horses and Humans. The two races that seem to be in every possible universe.

[She shakes her head. Two races that occasional hate her. Just her luck.]

I'm sure there's meaning in that.

[jedies]

I can't say there is, at least in my own. The galaxy is vast. All sorts of permutations exist. We rarely use "human" at all.

[demonicbeauty]

[Well, she won't argue with anyone about what they want to be called.

Instead, Ariadne draws a deep breath, slowly letting it out between her teeth.]

Listen, Obi-Wan. I...I think I owe you apology.

[jedies]

[ ah. he falls quiet for a moment, collecting his own thoughts. ]

You used my memories against me to accuse me of callousness. You took a fight you witnessed where I lost a dear friend and was fighting for my life against people who murdered children to say I was thoughtless.

Do you believe I am owed an apology? It should be something you want to give. Not simply because I am owed one.

[demonicbeauty]

I was hurt and angry and in mourning. And I lashed out in the wrong way, at the wrong person.

[She shakes her head.]

That's not who I am. It's not who I want to be. You didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Yes, I want to apologize.

[And, although she doesn't say it...she wants to learn from Anakin's mistakes. Anakin has no remorse. She's not going to be like that. That's not a road she wants to take.]

[jedies]

[ obi-wan exhales quietly. he understood all those motivations, which is why he hadn't spoken against it. he understood the depth of feeling that comes with it.

still. he can't help but feel ill-used. if he was anything less than what he was . . . ]

Then I'll accept it in the spirit in which it is given.

[demonicbeauty]

That's all I can ask.

[Again, she shakes her head.]

Anakin and I have spoken. I...

[A pause. She's not sure how to put it into words.]

We didn't fight, anyway.

[jedies]

I didn't expect you to.

[ and he means that honestly. he wonders briefly if he should mention that sam was responsible for dean's death. ]

[demonicbeauty]

To be honest, there was part of me that really wanted to hit him. But I didn't. It wouldn't have changed anything.

[A deep sigh.]

And that's just not who I want to be. Again.

[jedies]

[ he nods slowly. ]

Such is the path to anger. It can control us if we're not careful.

[demonicbeauty]

I know.

[She's quiet for a long, long moment, staring at some spot on the wall.

There's a lot more to it than simple anger. There's helplessness. And frustration. And need.

But she's kind of figured out that a Jedi is the last person to share her feelings with. Sith too. They're so very alike. And she still wants to understand. It's just so much more complicated. Especially now that her trust has been completely broken.]

I think what's more important right now is making sure it never happens again.

[jedies]

I have hope that it won't.

[ it'll be slow and painful. but if maul can do it, then anyone can. that's the belief that holds strong. that anyone can rise above. ]

Hope is always good.
