Is it common for people to do this for others here? [ H-Hopefully not unexpectedly? ]

But no, I don't think it's terrible common to see these things. At least, not for me.

.. oh. That's.. um.

[ 'Good', she wants to say with her tiny flustered heart, but that feels a little rude after an ad about him was put up like this.. ]

I hope you.. find what you're looking for. Or, um, what she was looking for for you.

[ he chuckles. ]

We can only hope.

Are you all right? I hate to have inconvenienced you.

Y-Yes! I'm alright, I'm just..

[ Her voice trails off once more as she tries to find the right words to explain. It's not like she wants to lie, but being too direct about this is too rude as well, she thinks.

She needs a more gentle way to explain it. ]

I'm not really used to seeing things like this, so it was a little.. flustering, I suppose? This kind of thing only happens in certain districts of the city where I come from-- u-um, which is a city called Kyoto.

[ In case he might recognize it, she thinks. ]

[ hmm. that's fair. ]

Well, it happens here and there in this place but thankfully, we all have some idea of privacy. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

[ Being told not to worry too much is one thing, but actually putting that into practice is another thing entirely for someone who worries as much as Chizuru..

I'll try. [ Emphasis on try. ] I'm glad that people in this place seem.. understanding though. [ Is that the right word? She's not sure. ]

It seems like people here come from a variety of cultures.

[ he nods. ]

Yes. For the most part, people are fairly respectful.

[ sometimes. mostly. ]

For the most part?

[ Granted, that's generally what could be said of most cities - but Chizuru just can't help but wonder. ]

Does that mean you've had some less than pleasant encounters here, sir..? [ Maybe he was thinking of something specific? ]

[jedies]

Sometimes.

[ it's not something he'll clarify. those situations have more to do with him than the general atmosphere. ]

It can happen to anyone. Not everyone works perfectly and conflict happens now and then. Sometimes it is caused by this place. Sometimes we lose control and lash out.

[tealeafs]

[ Chizuru frowns a little bit as she hears it. It's clearly an unpleasant thing to hear, but then again.. Life is sometimes just like that, isn't it. As much as she dislikes it. ]

I guess that's something that happens everywhere though.. I have lived in Kyoto for the past few years, and there are often fights breaking out in the middle of the street there.

[ he nods. ]

I came here from a war, so I'll admit the bar for me is quite high.

[tealeafs]

.. there was a war where you came from?

[ Well, doesn't that sound familiar to Chizuru. How many people came straight from wars to this place, she wonders..?

It immediately makes her tone sound a little more concerned, despite her not even knowing Obi-Wan. ]

I'm so sorry to hear that. Were you.. alright? Um, before you ended up here instead, I mean?

[jedies]

[ he smiles gently. ]

I'm fine. The war was mostly over by the time I arrived here.

[tealeafs]

Ah, I'm.. glad.

[ Though there's still a tad of hesitance in that answer. The war having been over by the time he arrived here does mean that he did live through it, after all. ]

I hope it didn't end badly though. Everything about wars.. It's so messy.

[jedies]

All wars end badly.

[ he sighs. ]

But they do end.

[tealeafs]

I guess it is true that there are always people hurt in the end. [ Chizuru won't deny that. She even says it a little more softly, because she would never want to trample right over the feelings of people who died, and those who were left behind.

With her personal experience, she understands very well just how rough that sort of thing is. ]

But.. I do think there are better and worse outcomes when it comes to war. After all, sometimes one side of a war is unnecessary cruel, or their victory could endanger a whole lot of innocent people..

[ Chizuru's tone is a little sad. This is hard to talk about, but it's also a topic she's been thinking about pretty hard for a while now, considering everything going on back home. ]

[jedies]

That may be true. But we should be wary of calling ourselves righteous or better. Pride should not be what people wage wars on.

[ it had been their failing. they thought it would be a swift war, not a long-drawn one. even jedi are not immune to pride and shortcomings. ]

[tealeafs]

[ Pride.

It's a loaded word, and not one Chizuru will pretend to understand well on a personal level, considering she hardly experiences the emotion. But she has seen a whole lot of people back home with it.. particularly in the war. ]

Was that what the war where you came from was about, sir..? About pride? [ She asks it softly, carefully. Not wanting to offend him, or make him think too hard about bad things that have passed. ]

[jedies]

[ he chuckles. ]

No, it's more complicated than that. We involved ourselves to make sure those who couldn't defend themselves had help. Still, even the most noblest intentions doesn't make for a better war.

[tealeafs]

No. You're right that war is always bad. I would also prefer it if people would never have to get hurt..

[ So much so. Chizuru doesn't even have words for the sheer extent, but the tone in her voice is saying a lot right now. ]

But I think it would be even worse if there was no one to stand up to protect the people who are hurting. That would be an even sadder world.

[jedies]

[ there is no world where people do not get hurt. even unintentionally. it's how they bare and help each other through those hurts that determines what kind of world they live in. ]

That is how I feel.

[tealeafs]

.. that must mean you are a good person, sir.

[ Maybe it's a bit too quick to draw that conclusion, but.. well, that's just who Chizuru is. She always wants to see the good in people, and this definitely seems like a good thing to her.

Not everyone cares whether or not innocent people get hurt, after all. She has learned as much back home through experience. ]

[jedies]

[ he inclines his head politely. ]

I can only keep working at doing good things. None of us are good or evil by nature. It's what we choose to do that truly defines us.

[tealeafs]

[ She lets out a breath - it faintly sounds like a laugh, around its edges, though it doesn't quite fully get there. ]

Now you're sounding like some people I know.

[ Not that it's a surprise to her. They are also good people. ]
