I've been around a long time and I can't say every Valentine's Day has come with roses that weren't self-gifted.

... But, that makes the ones where you get gifts more special. Just like how Christmas is more special when you can give and get gifts.

I think being able to be with my friend would be enough - but, know it's hard here.

Flowers and chocolates. But chocolates in the heart-shaped box. You might as well take the spirit of Valentine's literally, no?

You're allowed to want something ridiculously fancy. I don't think a chocolate fountain is out of the question.

I've never tried anything from a chocolate fountain before.

Have you ever gotten anything fancy?

Jewellery. A lot of it. I only have so many fingers and yet that's what everyone wants to give.

Have you ever gotten a nice ring before? It doesn't even have to be for Valentine's.

It's nice that other people wanted to give you so many gifts, though. It means that someone's thinking about you.

... I haven't gotten very many gifts before.

It comes with age. When I was very young, I'd only get handpicked flowers from one boy. They were the best gift I'd ever gotten.

You'll begin to accumulate a lot of gifts. If you keep wooing people with your very impressive lines, I'd hope that many people in the Trench would feel inclined to gift you a little something.

... My new Mom baked a pie for me a little after we first met. I didn't eat it until later, but it helped me feel safer in a new place.

It's okay if they don't though. In a world like this - it's nice enough if it can make someone happy.

What kind of pie did she bake you? People who bake and gift food are the best kind of people—and I doubt she would have baked it for you if she didn't think it'd make you very happy.

I think it means a lot more when people give you things outside of these big days that are all about giving. It feels a little more special, don't you think?

It was butterscotch-cinnamon. I think you're right -- she said she wanted to let me know how happy she was that I was there with her.

... Yeah. It feels a little more special here, too. There's a lot of bad things that happen, so anything special like that can make a big difference.

That's very sweet. She's lucky to have you here. Why else would she bake something that sounds so yum?

I think a lot of us forget that bad things happen even back home. It's just a little amplified here because of how unusual it is. It's a good thing you remember and appreciate the good. Not many people do.

I think that I was the lucky one to find her.

It's important to remember the good and the bad. I learned that we have to learn from the bad things -- and the mistakes that we make.

We do. As much as I wish that I didn't know that very well, sometimes our mistakes are our biggest teacher.

Just because they don't remember doesn't mean that it's okay.

No, it doesn't.

But you're allowed to want to change it. And I also think you're allowed to have done what you needed to do to survive. Sometimes people get hurt. Sometimes you just can't avoid it.

I hurt a few people that I cared about. Sometimes I wish I could take it back.

The person I want to give me something for Valentine's was someone who used to fit into that box. Not to lay something out on someone I just met, but sometimes I don't think I deserve his forgiveness.

Everyone deserves another chance. Even if they don't think they deserve it.

Especially if you're really sorry for what you did.

Sometimes I think the fact I wouldn't take it back means that I'm not exactly sorry.
