[The sight that greeted the network in the middle of February was like something out of a horror show, though not one of those horrible B-Rated horror films. Vira-Lorr was there, practically covered in ink splotches, splattered over her face and clothes. One of her eyes was wrong, looking more like a squid's and half her face was terribly pale. She was leaning against the counter of her kitchen and oh god there was ink everywhere, along with copious amounts of slime. Her sleeve on the counter was shredded and ruined, and a lengthy tentacle arm jutted out from the remains of her clothes.

The sight of it was disturbing enough, but the look of elation on her face was so giddy, like she'd managed something impressive. Her eye went 'schunk' and she blinked, causing it to return to normal as she panted with visible effort, holding up a vial containing a black liquid triumphantly, like it was a magnificent prize to show off.]

Omni, record this for my records. I did it! I managed to do it! Oh gods, it was not pleasant, but I was able to get a usable sample! I...

oh gods... I just made...

[She twisted around, finding the nearest sink and proceeded to puke. Thankfully, she had the decency to put the vial somewhere safe. Give her a second. Another shunk, and her arm re-asserted itself, though perhaps not her pride this time.]

Oh gods, the things I do for research...

[Believe it or not? This actually had an academic and practical purpose. Somewhere. Somehow. Hopefully.]

[Nil's omni opens to ask a question -- as there is something about the other woman that is noteworthy. Like her, Nil has a pair of tentacles of herself, a waxen complexion, and three eyes... but the more she sees the video play, the more she realize that their circumstances are very different. Much like the sleepers waking on the beach, this woman was getting closer to her squid state. For the sake of... getting ink?]

[The woman's exclamation and shock at the end of the video causes Nil's eyes to widen. She was not meant to see that. With a hasty gesture of her hands as though she was tugging against a chord in front of her, the screen goes black.]

[But she was still worried. The woman... she didn't look well. At the very least, she needed to check in on her.]

[After a few second some written text would appear in Vira-Lorr's omni, floating like an open question:]

Are you alright?

[She picked it up perfectly. Vira-Lorr's vile blood had allowed her a bit better control of her body. She'd tried a temporary and partial transformation to get ink. Well, it had worked, though gods but it was messy.

Once Vira-Lorr had a second to recover, she went and saw the text from an unknown user and sighed, typing shortly afterwards.]

Oh, fine fine. Very messy at the moment and I have a lot of cleanup to do, and I might be a little disturbed that that actually worked? But I'm physically alright at the moment.

That looked rough.

[Both the transformation and the aftermath. Though she could have guessed Vira-Lorr would want to downplay the experience, Nil is only consoled that, for the moment, Vira-Lorr had the situation in hand.]

[She was currently flexing her fingers. She was clearly counting them. one, two, three four and a thumb. Ok, all there. Knuckles working right. Yeah. That just happened.]

So it would appear. Ah well, at least I can store the footage one way or another, I suppose. That was ... not exactly pleasant.

[Reaper is more bemused than alarmed to see Vira experimenting on herself. This was like old times for him, since Moira was all about the necessary risks of science.]

Are you doing your best to learn to shape-shift between your human form and a squid one?

I'd never tried it as paleblood but it was deceptively easy this time. I might want to take a few steps to make sure it's not so messy. It's also painful and time consuming, so I can't do it often.

[Michael watches this all with the very special horror of a person who knows that he can turn into a squid and expel ink at the drop of a hat, and that there was really no reason for this whatsoever if he weren't so secretive about it.]

[Still covered in ink. Look, she was new to this clearly.]

Well, a bit of a sight, I'm sure, but my body is at least back to its normal state. I was attempting to see if we can produce ink, so that I could have a sample for study.

Ange gets why all of this is happening. The moment she sees the video start, she already knows what's going on - and she might be momentarily slapping a hand in front of her face for a moment here. Partially to facepalm at this being broadcasted so publically, like she can't deal with the secondhand embarrassment, but also partially since she really doesn't want to see more of this. It's kind of gross! ]

I.. see you really lived up to your promise.

[ Ange finally replies once it's over.

She's trying really hard to not sound exasperated, since she figures Vira-Lorr must have worked hard to do this, but.. girl. Girl!! ]

Well, that wasn't supposed to actually be posted. I thought I hit record and not live, but ... tentacles aren't as good at manipulating things as hands are. However, yes. I did manage to get a sample for study.

[She was ... back to normal now, thank the gods, but still kind of a frightful mess of ink splotches.]

I think that could be done without the mess next time. Probably. Might take practice, so I'm hoping the sample lasts.

[ Rather than the horrified disgust that most Sleepers seem to be reacting with, K observes the tail end of the process with fascination — and some concern. Between living several years in Deerington and having never had especially delicate sensibilities to begin with, these sorts of things just affect him differently than they do most people.

I will admit, K, a little tired. That took a fair bit out of me, since it was the first time I tried something so ... big, even if the transformation should be more natural to us.

[She remembered K from the FEAR days. They never really chatted much, and she hadn't gone out of her way with all of the former members, but it was good to hear his voice.]

I'm attempting to see if we can duplicate the old "Antidotes" from the nightmare. Those were made with squid ink, so I reasoned it might be possible for us to create them here, since so much is blood-based already.

[She flexed her fingers, counting them as she sat on the counter. Things were partially cleaned, but only so much.]

Since I became Vileblood, I've found my body is more malleable, but it hurts to change. This was ... by far the most painful I've encountered, but it might be worth it.

[So, Rose and she were on the same page with the nausea there. Admittedly, it was for slightly different reasons. But, hey, look. Another new voice for introductions. First, however...]

That, at least? Well, that was successful, though I can think of several things that should avoid a repeat of today's fiasco, should I require more.
