[ Sasuke thought about asking this through text. He likely should have, because his emotions have been strong lately, a lot stronger than he wants them to be, and his anger has been nearly as quick and hot as it was when he was on his path of revenge. But it feels cheap somehow to ask such an important question via text. He can't do video due to his eyes, so he tries to keep his voice even to conceal just how much this question means to him.

The feed is silent for a little longer than is probably natural, but he's still figuring out how to us his omni, so. Y'know. Be gentle here.

Finally, it picks up a sigh that almost sounds annoyed. ]

How did the world treat orphans where you're from? Was there an age where someone was considered a child versus an adult? Were there children who were considered unworthy of help or were the rules in place blanketed towards all children?

[ There's a pause where he realizes he should make it seem like this is less about, y'know, him, and more about curiosity on how to help kids here maybe. Uhhhh... ]

... Would there be things from your world that you would want to see offered to the children in this one?

... Magic. [ The way he says that word is the sound of someone who is very, very tired. He's only been exposed to magic for his short time here, but he already hates it. ] I guess it makes sense it would exist in other worlds than this one.

My world is lousy with it, and none of it makes a whole lot of sense. Being a man of science isn't easy there, lemmie tell you.

Do you practice any other sciences or is alchemy your sole focus?

[It's a whole special kind of hell and he hates it so much.]

I'm pretty good at engineering- I've built a whole hot water system for the kingdom, made a few automatons. Honestly, I'll give any science a good try so long as I have time to study it. Even if it...sometimes ends up overlapping with magic. Both here and at home.

Mm. Most of the science I studied fell into geoscience. I was learning how to combine science and ninja techniques to improve my skills in battle. But we were just starting to work with engineers back home to expand our technology in Konoha. It seems... interesting.

[ Really he has absolutely 0 idea how most of it works, honestly, he just watched in fascination. ]

That's a good science to study! It's important to know how the planet works. How do you combine it with fighting?

[He's GENUINELY interested. Science is all about adaptation in his mind, and the thought of using geoscience for fighting isn't something that's occurred to him before. This is something new and exciting to learn!]

Engineering is fascinating! It's come along so much since my time! I'm honestly learning so many new things since I came to this world. I started building my own car.

Mm... In my world, we learned how to use the life force that runs through all people and things called chakra and we utilize it and alter its properties to do various techniques in battle. Since the chakras are all based in the elements, their properties can be altered to create physical manifestations of things like fire and lightning, or the energy can be forced into other elements such as the earth to create large scale attacks. I'm told this can seem like magic to others, but anyone can do it if they're taught the basics of chakra control and chemistry.

I decided to take it step further by figuring out how to utilize chakra energies and play it off of the scientific properties of the earth. For example, if I use a fire-based technique, I can send a great deal of heat into the atmosphere all at once, altering the currents and bringing on a thunderstorm, which I can use to my advantage in a battle against another person, especially if that person relies on attacks that would be weakened by rain. Or if I want to use it with weaponry, I can manipulate electrical currents using lightning based chakra, and send a copper-based kunai or shuriken through the current, which would allow me to attack someone with a weapon at what is literally the speed of light.

[ He... hopes that was all capable of being followed, but he also knows he's a shitty teacher, so there's no promising it. He takes a deep breath, before following up with one important question: ]

What's a car?

OH! There are people here from a world like that! They're called benders where they're from? They can focus on their powers to control certain elements. They've tried to explain it to me once and it's all about uh...focusing on your inner self and...stuff.

[And stuff. Varian's not so great at the more spiritual side of all of this, much as he's trying. ]

But that's clever! I can really see how much use it would be in battle. It might come in use here too, given there's folks like coldbloods. I have...some elemental powers. I'm not so great at them, though.

[Mostly because he is deeply uncomfortable with having magic of his own. Even if it's not technically magic. But the car question is MUCH more in his wheelhouse and he grins excitedly.]

Oh! It's basically a horseless carriage! It's powered by fuel and an engine instead.

Mm. I think I've met some of them. Make and Bolin? [ He's sure they've mentioned others being around, but actually remembering anyone else's name is so not gonna happen. ] There were certainly similarities. Though their bending seemed to almost be determined by their genetics. Anyone could learn to perform jutsus of any elemental style in Konoha if they put in the effort and memorized the hand-signs. Genetic techniques were usually considered... Dangerous.

[ Demonic, even!! It's fine, probably.

He remembers Lance said something about how if anyone could use chakra control, that he should think about teaching others. Having it compliment blood types would be... probably a good thing too. Maybe Varian would have better luck with fact-based chakra than spirit-based chi...

Redemption means helping people, even when you hate doing it!!! Come on, Sasuke. ]

That's them, yeah. Korra too! I see. So it's more a discipline that you study than the luck of how you were born. And...I can see why that would be...bad. Generally messing around with people on the cellular level isn't good. From- from what I've read.

He would definitely do so much better with fact-based learning. Mako and Korra have done a lot for him, but their world is so far from how his brain works. ]

I- I honestly wouldn't turn that down? It sounds like something I could work with. I'm definitely better with uh- actually studying something than just...going for it.

I've never seen a train! Well, except for the space train in Manabu's memory which...isn't the same. My world has nothing like that, bar the automotons.

Some techniques you can only be born with, but they're rare, and the majority of ninjutsu would definitely fall into the category of a discipline. My former sensei used to run experiments to try and give people special techniques but... They didn't always have the best outcomes.

[ Although now he can't be poisoned, so kudos, Orochimaru.

For some reason he's actually surprised that Varian is interested, though, and so it takes him a second to figure out what to say. ]

Alright. I'll write down what I remember from my beginning classes for you.

Train's are useful when you need to go long distances, but usually we just walk to other villages because it's not much different in speed. [ YET. Give it like five more years and Konoha has its very own fucking bullet train. ] What's an automoton?

I mean, I always approve of experiments but when you're running them on other people it can usually end...badly.

Yeah, we have hot air balloons for long journeys but...most people don't have access to those. It's pretty much horse and carriage all the way. [He clears his throat.] It's shaped like a person. but it runs on an engine too- some people call them robots.

Orochimaru at least finally learned that he's better off getting other people to at least agree before running his experiments. It's about the only lesson I can hope he'll retain.

[ And it took like fucking 7 arcs to get there, he's too tired to try for more, and isn't sure he cares enough to. ]

Ah. Dirk made me one of those here. Or, well, it's smaller, and not shaped quite like a person, but he called it a robot. It's programmed to help with communication. [ It's obviously been helping because he's been having much lengthier conversations since getting it. Go team!!! ]

That's a pretty important one to learn, seesh. Fingers crossed he keeps that one, huh.

Mm, I don't know the mechanics of it, but he said it's programmed to give verbal responses and basic facial expressions in reaction to whatever I say to them, so that I can become better equipped at things such as small talk and ah... basic comfort.
