[ Sasuke thought about asking this through text. He likely should have, because his emotions have been strong lately, a lot stronger than he wants them to be, and his anger has been nearly as quick and hot as it was when he was on his path of revenge. But it feels cheap somehow to ask such an important question via text. He can't do video due to his eyes, so he tries to keep his voice even to conceal just how much this question means to him.

The feed is silent for a little longer than is probably natural, but he's still figuring out how to us his omni, so. Y'know. Be gentle here.

Finally, it picks up a sigh that almost sounds annoyed. ]

How did the world treat orphans where you're from? Was there an age where someone was considered a child versus an adult? Were there children who were considered unworthy of help or were the rules in place blanketed towards all children?

[ There's a pause where he realizes he should make it seem like this is less about, y'know, him, and more about curiosity on how to help kids here maybe. Uhhhh... ]

... Would there be things from your world that you would want to see offered to the children in this one?

Curiosity. People who heard about the way we dealt with orphans in Konoha always seemed so shocked by it. I guess I wanted to know if we were really that much worse than other places.

And the answers you've gotten, do they help you understand or are you wondering why people were so shocked about yours?

I... don't know. A mix, maybe. I suppose I can understand why someone from a place like your Tokyo may be surprised, but there seem to be worlds a great deal worse than mine.

Orphans are usually unwanted. There's an orphanage that some go to, but before the Fourth War, not every child was welcome there, depending on if they're seen as dangerous or undesirable within the village. It's probably not the worst outcome, considering that there was a man associated with the place who used to take children to use for his own personal experiments on occasion. I suppose he figured no one would miss them.

If you were left out of the orphanage, sometimes some people would be taken in by a shinobi family, though it was usually only those that were in high enough standing with the community. [ Here's lookin at you, Konahamoru. ] Otherwise, you were expected to fend for yourself.

Mm. After the Fourth War, a friend of mine worked to improve the orphanage and to help children who had lost their families to adjust to the... trauma. [ The last word is said a little hesitantly, like he's not 100% sure it's the right choice. He's still learning here. ] I haven't been home to know if she's had any success, but she could probably tell you herself.

Oh, well, that's... a good thing, honestly. I'm glad that it's getting better. I think that's even more important. Like, great, everyone knows there's a problem, the next step is trying to fix it.

Painful as they can be, things happen the way they do for a reason. The past is what made me who I am today and I don't let myself be consumed by "what ifs" when I don't know how they would have changed me as a person.

That... is a really awesome mindset to have, Sasuke-san. [God, she wished half her enemies had even a SMIDGE of that mindset, maybe then she wouldn't have half the problems she did growing up.]
