[ it's a dark and — well it's just a dark month and ahiru never really functions well in the dark. she gets spooked easily which is sort of what happens here. a sequence of events, by a duck.

1. she enters the kitchen. the lights are off and she bumps into various furniture. ]

Ow ow ow ow —

[ 2. her hand brushes against a coat hanging on top of a chair. in her mind, she imagines a snake.

3. She panics and lets out a loud: ]

Quack!

[ 4. ahiru ends up turning into a duck on screen. gasp! not that she has realized she's being recorded.

5. she quickly waddles off and there's the sound of water and she comes back into the kitchen with a relief. ]

— Phew that was clo . . . ooooose, O-Odette! Were you displaying this the whole time?! A-Ah!!

[ ahiru immediately runs in front of the feed, waving her hands frantically. ]

You didn't see that! There's nothing to see! It was . . . uh, uh, a MYSTERY DUCK that broke into the house but it's gone now!

[ alas, ahiru has been well and truly outed as . . . a duck. ]

It sounds complicated, but I can't say I'm not familiar with complicated favors.

Hopefully keeping it secret wasn't part of the bargain, but as long as it wasn't...whoever gave you that would probably be happy you're using your gift, at least. If that helps any to remember.

But, eh, bad is negligible. At least it's out there and you don't have to worry about hiding it anymore. This is really a 'rip the band-aid off' situation.

I'd ask why you sought out a favor from someone who likes it when bad things happen, but...I'm gonna assume it was important. It's not my place to know too much when you don't even know my name, and I don't know yours.

Most important thing now, I guess, is being comfortable with you. All of you.

Well, this is just one guy's opinion, but I'd say it's pretty important, yeah.

No matter what form you are, you're still you. Dog, or cat, or person, or duck...it wouldn't matter, because you'd still be you. You'd still have the same thoughts and feelings. You can't lie to yourself or anyone else fully about that, and you shouldn't have to.

And the people that matter will either recognize that, or they'll prove they're not worth it. If someone's not willing to accept someone, feathers and all, I'd say they'd be kind of a jerk and not worth your time anyway.

[ that's what she has always believed, but the fear had still kept her in its grip. ]
