Peeking out from her veil is her lamp friend, and drifting around her in a circle is a soft finned creature, her Omen. Delicately colored in reds and blues as it swims in the air. ]

I am new to this place, this... city. I do not have much in the way of the coin, but I am skilled in other forms. I can sew, weave, till a field, clean, cast a line, or a net, gut a fish, help tend animals, both with birthing and killing, cook many types of meals...

But if you have need of anything repaired or cooked... please, if there is something I can do for resources in return, only let me know, and I shall be your glad servant.

That at least I do know about. Where I come from is... often described as a harsh place to live.

But my people are generous in what we can share when we can.

Truly, it is just the shutters, I have done by best, but I need something to help keep the wind out...

Where is it that you come from? Do you agree with that assessment of it?

Oh that's easy then. Shouldn't be any problem at all. I can take a look sometime, if you want?

The Isle St. Loe... and yes, rather usually. Our winters are long and dark, our summers come with much rain and winds so harsh they'll near cut you.

That would be most agreeable. I can provide you with fish in return if you wish?

I hate to say I've never heard of it, but that's not exactly uncommon around here either. Is that on Earth?

I appreciate that, but I don't eat a lot. Might be better to save the fish for someone who needs them more. If you sew, any chance can you spin thread? I could get some wool, but I wouldn't mind learning either.

The Ring Lands? I do not know Earth, I am afraid...

I certainly can teach you that. It is usually women's work, if that does not bother you?

It's where I'm from. I wouldn't know how to describe it if you're not. Is The Ring Lands a planet or a nation?

The majority of Earth thinks that too, actually. I don't mind. I've been on my own a long time before I wound up here. Pretty used to doing for myself. If I want to eat, I hunt. If I want shelter, I build it. Could be useful to learn, if you're patient enough to instruct.

It is a series of isles. Kingdoms and lands, spread between each island.

Well, if you bring me something to cook, I will make us a meal, and while it cooks, I shall show you how to spin. If you know where we might procure a spindle, that will make it easier, but if not, I can show you how to do it with just your hands.

What's it like there, besides harsh? Is the technology here better or worse than it is there?

I can do that. I've got plenty that I've foraged, but I can get some meat too. I'm not exactly the best cook, so I appreciate that. And I'll take a look at the window too and see what I can do about the repairs.

Not sure about a spindle, but that's fine with me. It's probably better to learn how to do it with less available, since that'd come in most handy. Also I'm Deaf, just so you know. The Omnis come in handy enough for communicating, though. We might not even be typing in the same language right now and we'd never know it.

Beautiful. The fields that rise up from the land are green. The stones cut apart like grey teeth of a great shark between them.

... I could not say to technology. The things I know... they are not like anything here. Iron is a very expensive metal, most I know use bronze. We work fields by hand. Our ships take us far and wide, yet most are at the mercy of the sea.

Then let me help, I can show you to cook and spin and patch your garments. But however it is we parse language together, or do not, just let me how it is best for you to communicate, and I will do my best to accomidate.
