001 Video; UN: Cuddlebunny

[When the video turns on, Usagi looks... well, honestly downright haggard. But Usagi, when exhausted has a bad habit of masking and thus, acts even more bubbly and energetic than usual. And before you ask, no, she's not fine. But she will lie and say she is.

But don't mention the bags under her eyes, that's rude.
]

HI EVERYONE!

[She's waving at the screen excitedly in some hopes to not let on the deep exhaustion she's badly hiding.]

My name is Usagi Tsukino! I uh... met some of you before when we first got here but couldn't really properly introduce myself! BUT I CAN TALK AGAIN! [And she's decided to make that everyone's problem.] Actually, I've been able to talk for AWHILE but ANYWAY! So hi!

Anywho! Do you know what I realized last night? I mean, probably a LOT of people have realized this actually but I doooon't think anyone has said it, or, at least I don't think so! Maybe I missed it! Sorry if someone already said something like this!

[She's rambling.]

Anyhow! I realized that while lots and lots and lots and lots of people may already know lots and lots and lots of other people cause ya know, so many of us came from Deerington, there are JUST as many people who have absolutely no clue who anyone else is or where we are or why we're here! I mean, I'm those last two too, but I lucked out on knowing some of you!

SO! So so so! I thought, hey! Why not introduce yourself and then we can all get to know one another and we can all help one another and it will be awesome and we can be all amazing together!

I'LL START!

My name is Usagi Tsukino! I'm originally from Tokyo, Japan! I love cats and rabbits, food, and video games and my favorite hobbies are sleeping and eating but oh oh oh! I like shopping, making all sorts of new friends, playing video games, reading manga and comics, aaaaaand well actually I can't think of anything else right now!

Now it's your turn!

((OOC Notes: Feel free to tag other people, it's essentially an open post.))

[ Orpheus laughs a little, beaming. ]

I mean, if you ever want to learn, I'd be happy to teach you what I know! It seems like now could be as good a time as any to start, if you're interested.

[ Orpheus just looks confused at that for a second, not quite catching on to what she means right away. ]

What? Oh! I'm sure you're selling yourself short. Learning music can be a little hard at first? But once you've figured out the basics it's hard to do anything that could be called murder unless you're really trying.

[ Orpheus thinks about that for a moment. ]

Well, there's no instrument where you can turn into an expert overnight, but there are ones that are easier to pick up? A harmonica might work well for you - they don't go out of tune for a really long time, so you don't have to worry about that, and they don't make weird noises if you play them 'wrong', like a violin would.

I've never played a harp before, so I couldn't help you as much with that - and string instruments are usually a slightly bigger commitment? They take more maintenance and tuning, and can be harder on the hands.

[ He raises up one of his hands towards the screen, showing off the calluses on his fingertips before turning it back to his face. ]

But! If it's something you want to do, I think it's still worth it, definitely! Depending on what you mean by 'like a harp' there's a few options? A lyre is probably the closest, and I know how to play that pretty well, but I don't know how easy it would be to find another one for you here.

[ Orpheus doesn't quite catch on to the reason for her distaste for the harmonica, nor the depths of it, but thankfully the conversation moved on before there could be any misunderstandings on that front. He grins, nodding. ]

It's one of my favorite instruments. [ he says, approvingly. ] You can borrow the one I got from Julia during lessons, until we can find you one of your own. There's got to be someone somewhere in the city that makes them, right? They're a popular instrument, at least where I come from.

Right! There's probably someone here who can figure it out? I admit I'm not an expert at actually building instruments myself, but I know enough that I might be able to walk someone through it if they've made similar enough things in the past?

[ He'll think about it. It might be an interesting project! ]

And I don't mind at all! I like sharing what I know with people. Music's more fun if you have other people to play it with, and anyway I can't think of anything I really need help with right now? If that changes, I can let you know, but I really am happy to try to teach you for its own sake.

Oh! I know Varian! I hadn't really thought of it that way but I guess he does have a lot of experience with building things that have to be really precise. If you wind up liking the lyre we can definitely ask him about building one for you, assuming we can't find one in the city.

[ He pauses, and something seems to occur to him suddenly. ]

Have you... seen a lyre, before? Do you want me to show you what one looks like?

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-11-07 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
A little bit! Just a second. [ And Orpheus sets the Omni down, disappearing offcamera for a good moment before returning with his lyre, which he settles in his lap, strumming a set of scales. ] So, what do you think? It's got a little more of a robust, resonant sound than a harp, but it's pretty similar in sound and basic technique.

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-11-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! That's great! You have a lot of friends who are musicians, don't you?

[ He beams, excited for the recognition. It doesn't necessarily make his job any easier, but it's still exciting that she knows someone else who plays. ]

Like I said, they're pretty popular instruments where I come from? But I've met more than a few people here who've never seen one before. It's a little strange.

[ By far not the strangest thing he's had to deal with people not knowing about, but still kind of surreal. ]

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-11-11 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Right, I was actually helping Fern with the guitar back in Deerington! He picked it up really quickly - I'm probably going to run out of things to teach him pretty soon.

[ He beams, proud of his friend. ]

And maybe. I admit, I haven't heard of the koto either? But I don't know much about Japan to begin with. What sort of instrument is it?
themuseabandonsyou: (grin)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-11-14 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, well, as long as it's something you're enjoying, I'm sure you'll do well enough! And if not, we can always try something else.

[ Or just, you know, stop, but Orpheus is cautiously optimistic about Usagi's chances. Anyway, he pulls up the image she sends him and gives a small, delighted gasp. ]

Oh! It's beautiful! I'm sure they sound just as lovely, too. Is it played with fingertips or a pick? Or a bow, but I don't see one there.
themuseabandonsyou: (smile)

[personal profile] themuseabandonsyou 2021-11-24 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense! It looks like it'd be suited to the sort of agility you get from playing with more than one finger or pick. And if you can I'd love to see it! I... still haven't really figured out how to do much with these crystals except talk to people. [ he admits, a little sheepishly. ]

[ Orpheus takes a moment to watch the video, not thinking to turn off his recording while it plays. The audio echoes over his microphone (or whatever the Omni's magical equivalent of a microphone is), but it does mean Usagi is able to see the way he lights up as he watches, clearly enraptured. He laughs a little with delight as the video ends. ]

Right! There are a couple of guitarists and banjo players I know who play with similar picks! I haven't seen that technique before, though - at the beginning, where she plays a sort of rolling note with her right hand. It's such a unique sound. Thank you for sharing it with me.
