[It's been a few days since dying, and Luz had unfortunately kept this to herself. If you haven't been able to tell, this girl has been having a pretty rough month, and it didn't seem to be getting better. She lurched her device to focus, and, though coughing, was looking directly into the camera].

So. Uh. Died. First time, ha ha, not a fun experience. Kinda looking for some company, here or just on this thing otherwise. I should probably be getting rest, yes, but staring up at the ceiling regretting stuff and hating yourself can only keep out the quiet for so long.

Also, been out of the loop a bit. Someone update me on things?

Luz was pretty sure that she was going to get an earful from people in the house, but ESPECIALLY from Ahiru, who had very much not wanted her to go on the mission. Luz had thought she could handle it and had handled somewhat similar situations before. Now, though, since they'd talked about it before, Luz knew it looked even WORSE.

Add the whole mix of self-loathing for being too weak to avoid death and the ever-present gloom of missing Fern and Varian, and Luz was pretty much a powder keg of emotions and blah. She was in her room right now, dimly lit with her purple lights and surrounded by a fort of stuffed animals and, well, Luz was a sight to see.

Blankets, and a stuffed animal if you can spare one?

[Because that would involved Makoto, and Luz knew full well that if something had happened to her, the effect it would have on Usagi. Luz thought enough bad things had happened to her].

It's pretty rough yeah. But if there's anything we can do to help, or if you just need some place different to go. There's plenty of space at the house.

[Makoto remembered how avoidant she had been of certain places after her death.]

That's really nice of you to offer. But I don't mind this place. I miss Fen and Varian, but Luca and Ahiru are still here, and Reaper of course. I like knowing they're around.

[They were like family, after all].

But maybe I'll pop in for a few hours. Actually, now that I think about it, there is something I'd like to ask of you.

[That was a good point. And with Reaper there she knew at least someone else was able to cook. At the other having a question, Makoto nodded.]

Sure, what's up? What do you need?

[Luz was lucky that Reaper was feeling better by now].

In a few days, I have a karate tournament I'm going to. I'd like you to help me spar, if you would.

You signed up for that?

[Makoto had thought about it, she'd been practicing at Terry's dojo occasionally since he'd been a little less demeaning than Johnny. But her schedule with the bakery and everything with the imposter flowers was keeping her busy.]

Yeah, I'd be glad to help you with that. Just make sure you don't push it too hard while you're recovering.

Before dying, yes. I've been getting some training at Ozpin's.

[She knew him more than the others and had confidence in his way of teaching].

Right, I won't! I'll stay hydrated and we'll spar in shifts!

I think it will help a lot too.

[Exercise, and keeping busy would help with the pain and the memories of dying. Preparing for something that was coming would give back a sense of control and responsibility as well.]

Anything in particular you want to work on? I can show you holds or throws, or if you want something more offensive.

[It's been a very hard month for Luz, she can hardly believe how bad it's gotten. She was honestly a little surprised at how rough it had been that she wasn't holed up and crying.

Well. It was time to restart again].

Those will be great, but...how are you with weapons?

Weapons? I've trained with them a bit. I have a pair of Tonfa and a quarterstaff. I could probably get a sword if you wanted.

Did you sign up for the armed combat brackete?

I'll take the staff! I'm working my way up to sword, don't want to accidently cut something off, after all!

Yep, I did. Going against Keith.

[Makoto laughed.] Well it would be a wooden one for practice. But the bow staff is a good choice to start with. Especially if someone has a sword.

I've mostly done rapiers. Swords I've done with Fern, but I know his isn't exactly a specific school or style. I figure with real swords, things might get pretty serious.

Bows are a little easier to work with for me. It's sort of like having a staff for me.

Well, we would be using wooden ones for practice. But yeah they can be pretty dangerous.

[Not that it ever gave Makoto a pause or anything.]

Pretty much, the weight distribution is the main difference.

[Luz nodded, looking serious].

I know I just emerged from dying, but I'm hoping to at least make our school look good!

Which school is it?

That would be the one Ozpin is headmaster of.

[Luz looks pretty proud of that].

Oh that's the one that Ruby knows right? I didn't know he was actually a dojo or anything.

He is! I believe he's from Ruby's world too!

No, I'd heard he was the only one that was "competing" until this Terry guy also got involved, and then there are those who aren't IN a dojo but still offering instruction, like Sasuke!

Heck, YOU probably could train under him if you wanted to! He doesn't seem anywhere as intense as the dojo instructors! Even Ozpin's training methods can be a bit extreme.

I've been to Cobra Kai a few times, but not the one with Terry. He seems like a jerk even after I put his but on the ground. I really didn't realize how many of them were popping up though, maybe I should look into a few of the others.

Yeah, I've heard about a few of his training methods. They're pretty strange.

No kidding?! You're that good! You're amazing, Makoto-san!

[Granted, she knew that she was a senshi, but that didn't necessarily mean she had to be good at martial arts. Clearly Makoto was someone who could join any dojo if she felt like it]!

Oh, all of their methods are strange to me. I think maybe Sasuke sounds the least intense.

[She had trained since she was young, and she had the strength to go with it. It might have helped that Johnny just figured she was just another chick messing around at the time. Really just wanted something simple and a little traditional kind of like home.]

I'll have to keep that in mind, but first, we'll have to get you ready.

[Count on Johnny to underestimate a very tall girl and likely getting flipped for his trouble. One day that guy was going to get a tall drink of humility if he didn't get that already].
