video | un: Da Silva
( The feed opens to a woman sitting in a bright cottage kitchen, with a cup of something warm and a soft smile. )
Hello. Some of you may know me already, but to those who don't β I'm Rose Da Silva. Sharon's mom.
( Her smile warms, and she gently sets her mug down so she can turn her full focus on the video she's making. )
I've been here for... a while. Half a year now. I have to admit, this place isn't like where I come from at all, and I'm still... trying to adjust.
I know a lot of you are from worlds that may be similar to this one. You've probably been able to settle in a lot easier than me. But... I wanted to offer something. Because I know there are a lot of young people here, people... on their own.
( Her smile wavers, brow knitting slightly. A lot of people without parents, without help. And maybe they've been doing quite well on their own; Rose has certainly witnessed almost disconcerting levels of independence from the Sleeper youth. Often, it suggests that... many of them might not have had a strong parental presence back home, either. Several of them have directly told her as much, or she's seen... memories, shared by accident. )
I can't make things, but I can show you how to buy and use them, if you like. Like... well, if anyone might need some more clothes and could use a hand, I'd be very happy to show you the shops I've discovered around here.
( She's.... offering to help take you shopping, yes. This month, there's a growing compulsion to teach, and maybe Rose is....... filled with the need to do some Mom Teaching Things for others! )
There are some really nice shops in certain parts of the city. I'm sure we could find something to fit your personal style.
( Her smile brightens again; she seems excited. Back home, before she was venturing into the depths of Silent Hill to rescue her daughter, she was one fancy suburban mom. Shopping was her thing. And maybe it seems a little silly, considering so many young people around here are... warriors, fighters, have some sort of strong power.... do they really need something as simple as a shopping trip while she's Mom For A Day?
....The offer is there. She wants it to be there, just in case someone does need it. Because maybe she doesn't have a lot of Trench-appropriate skills to put out here, in comparison to others. But being a mother... that's what she wanted to be for her whole life. She's not explicitly framing it that way, but that's what she feels the most comfortable offering, guidance that might fall under the "maternal" or "guardian" category of teaching. )
I'd be happy to treat you to lunch or dinner too, or show you around other places in the city, if you like. The weather's so nice lately.

This is like the third and I teach her kid.

[And he actually thinks Sharon is going through enough without dealing that.]
The hell is hot or not?

Okay, it's good that you're being considerate of Sharon. But who you're going to bang or not going to bang doesn't need to be announced on the network. That's the kind of information you either keep to yourself or tell a few good friends in private.
[She's almost surprised considering the original site was around in the early 2000s, but this is Johnny and the internet.]
Hot or not is where people post a picture of themselves, and other people playing the game say if the person is hot or not.
[And because she can see this ending in disaster if she doesn't add in a bit of extra clarification...]
There's variations where you can reply with a compliment based on the person's skills and personality if they're someone who'd be completely off your radar for who's attractive. Like you're not into guys that way, but if you wanted to compliment a guy friend, you could say he's an awesome guy to hang out with or whatever. Kind of like being a wingman.

I wasn't trying to announce it. I just heard what she said and reacted to it. How was I supposed to know everyone was going to listen to it?
[Johnny's still sluggishly moving past his "What's a Facebook?" point in his life. But he's not quite at realizing that liking all the photos of his ex might be problematic.
There's an odd look in his eyes that show the gears are turning in his head.]
...Okay. So there's like a real version and a pussy version of it. I think I get it. It's kind of like when I told Hawk to flip the script to take the focus off his lip. You're trying to help them out not just tear them down.
[No Johnny. You were bullying a teenager.]

All right. So. Remember how you posted that announcement about the tournament on the network with other senseis before? And everyone saw it and talked about it? The network is public. Everyone can see and hear what everyone says here. It's not like a phone call. It's like the online version of loudly saying something in the middle of a food court.
[It's probably going to fall to her to teach him how to send a private message.]
Kind of, yeah. Help them out instead of tearing them down. And you can blend both versions of it just to make it better for mixed company to join in. Like, if Miguel or Hawk posted, it'd be weird as their sensei to comment on if they were hot or not, but you could post the other part and say you're proud of all the hard work they put into their training or something like that.

He follows this well enough. And he did get the concept.]
Yeah but those weren't to be like that. I was talking to everyone. I didn't think everyone was just going to go and jump on me for saying something like this.
[Tory does not deserve this.]
Okay. Yeah. I probably wouldn't tell them that they're hot or shit like that. But if they weren't I'd tell them how to fucking improve to get there. It sounds like shit I've already been doing with them.
...So do we want to try this game out? Cobra Kai Presents: Are you Hot or Not?

[She's not sure she has the mental bandwidth to explain to him why what he said is offensive, so she'll focus on what he does understand. Then if he's going to make an ass of himself, it won't be to the entire network. Or at least not all the time.]
Yeah, and then just think of what you might say if you wanted to encourage people to date them or be their friend. Like...reasons why this person is awesome and badass.
[On one hand, this could be awful. On the other hand, it could be so awful that it's hilarious.]
Sure. We can do that.
no subject
That makes sense- Like the ref from the tournament might be a weird ass cyborg, but he can actually hold his booze and knows how to kick ass. Like that?
[It's going to be awful.]
no subject
[At least he's getting the general idea. That's something.]
