Why hello there!

[Snow White is in her kitchen, which is really pretty standard. This time, however, she's not surrounded by food that is being jarred, pickled, or dried. Her army of animal friends is around her, per the norm. The more observant will notice that Snow has on an apron and has several stray bits of dough and mixing bowls around her.]

Several friends of mine have asked, and I thought, well, why not offer it to everyone!

I would like to offer baking and cooking lessons to everyone who might want them, oh not these friends mind you [Snow gestures to her animals.] they already know how to cook! [Because of course they do]! I can teach you the very basics, or if you'd like, much more advanced lessons as far as I'm able to!

I think everyone should be able to cook. I can teach you how to cook outdoors as well! It's very easy to start a fire once you know the steps.

The only ingredients we won't use are apples, but if there's anything else you've always wanted to learn, I'd be happy to try and help you!

[A songbird tweets something and she turns to look at them.] Hmm? Price? I haven't thought of one, I'm sure we can figure something out. [In that, it will be very likely Snow will ask for nothing in return because she does that.]

Now I feel a bit inadequate since I can't sing. At least not very well. You deserve people singing to you. And your stepmother was awful, even more awful than my mother. She should never have treated you the way she did.

Ah, well, they say that doves are birds of love.

All right. As long as you're happy. That's the most important part.

Well, I love to sing, I could sing for the both of us. And... no, she shouldn't have, I'm not sure what I did to upset her, to be honest.

Do they? I had no idea! How romantic!

I am happy here with you and everyone else I've gotten to know and befriend!

I suppose so? And maybe someday, I'll work up the courage to sing to you. And...some people are just plain cruel. Cruel for the sake of it. It's never easy, having to live in close quarters with someone like that.

Yes! So your dove was probably overwhelmed with your feelings.

I'm glad. I think...this honestly isn't such a terrible place, despite the terrible things which seem to happen with alarming regularity.

To sing to me? [She smiled a bit softer.] Well, then I can't wait for that day, truly. Oh, well, the advantage of being her a queen and my being turned into a scullery maid is that I never had a good reason to be in her presence.

It was a very sweet dove and an even sweeter prince.

Oh, I quite agree. Every place can be quite dangerous or quite lovely. You just have to find the sunshine in it.

Yes, I think I'd like to do that. It's too bad we don't have a piano, I'm a far better pianist than a singer. And...that's something. Though, I wish people like her would learn to open their hearts just a little, rather than taking things out on others.

You must miss them both terribly.

That's what I'm trying to do. Back home, I had little room for hope for a very long time and I thought I might never have it again. But, a...friend opened my eyes. And now I have hope again.

Oh, well, I'm sure we can find one somewhere! Grumpy played the pipe organ, have you heard one? He and the dwarfs hand-carved it themselves! Oh, they were such incredible craftsmen. I wish I had something of theirs here so I could show everyone how amazing they are, you know what I mean? Ah but, a piano! That would be lovely. Maybe you could teach me to play! Then we can sing and play together. Wouldn't that be so much fun? We can sit side by side and play, your hands right next to mine as we sing!

To be honest? I miss my dwarfs much more. They made me feel... they made me feel like I suddenly had seven fathers and brothers in just one night! I went from a stepmother who didn't want me to seven men wanting to see to my care and well-being, they made me laugh and we danced, we sang together, shared stories, we ate together, and they gave up their beds for me the first night. I nearly cried during my evening prayers after all that. It was unreal. But they did it without a second thought. My existence had been a burden for years and suddenly, I was wanted and cared for.

I just wish they were here so everyone could meet them and know how amazing they were.

I never give up hope. It's something so... important.

Truly? A--well, it doesn't have to be a baby grand, it can be a stand-up piano--but a piano in general? It sounds as though your dwarves were both very smart and very clever. One can be born with smart, but that doesn't necessarily mean clever. And I'd love to teach you how to play. It's a lot of hard work at first, but I know you won't be discouraged. You'll be fine. Especially with my fingers to guide yours.

That sounds lovely, especially after what you'd been through earlier. Your stepmother....well, it's for the best if we never meet for fear of how angry on your behalf I'd become. You deserve to be happy and well taken care of. And...I know how it feels, to suddenly be appreciated for who I am. The world I left, it. It had its bright points, but those were quickly eclipsed by pain. And I'm grateful to them for making you feel wanted and cared for. You--you should feel that way always.

Perhaps they will be some day? It's impossible to know what might happen next.

Neither do I. I agree, it's far too important to lose.

I've never seen a baby grand, so I do not know what the difference in sound may be. But I am sure I can see for myself if we ever come across one! They must have one here, surely. And don't mind me about hard work! I've never shyed away from that! [She giggled. It was, admittedly, literally forced for her to be a hard worker, but it was something she learned to be nonetheless.]

Oh, thank you. For all the horrible, though, that just means I can appreciate the good even more. Like you, I appreciate you being in my life with my whole heart. Same as when I met the dwarfs. You make me feel wanted and cared for, too. They'd be incredibly grateful to you. [The next sentence makes Snow blush, though she doesn't understand why.] I'm incredibly grateful, you know.

I hope you feel that way too, the appreciated for, I mean, it needn't be me who makes you feel that way. [Though a large part of her hoped for it.]

A baby grand is huge, despite having "baby" in the title. It takes up much of a room, but there's so little difference between it and a stand-up that the main appeal of the baby grand is as a status symbol. And...I've never done hard work before. However, if you like, you can teach me? [she looks both serious and tentative. she knows that household chores are something she'll have to get used to. better do it sooner than later.

and Rose has to swallow past the lump in her throat] I'm so very glad. And I would be eager to help you with whatever it was you needed. And you are wan--cared for. I want to make sure you feel that way at all times. And I'd love to meet the dwarfs. Perhaps some month, that will be a possibility. [and Rose is blushing, too] It's my pleasure.

Well...I must say that you do make me feel appreciated. I want you to feel that way all the time. [she was afraid that she'd tipped her hand too early, but. what she said was completely true]

Oh... maybe it is called a baby grand because it is a baby fortune to have one! [Snow is only making a guess, while being a princess and living in a castle, she was a maid in her own home. She's only had luxury items after coming to Trench.] Oh, well, that's alright, learning to do something new has to start somewhere! So, I would be happy to teach you, Rose. Really, anyway I get to spend time with you is lovely to me.

Thank you, Rose. You especially make me feel cared for, I hope you know that? The dwarfs were the first to ever really treat me like a person and make me feel like a person. But you make me feel more than that, you make me feel special.

[that makes Rose grin] It could very easily be that exact thing! Honestly, the way some people like to put their wealth on display is positively obscene! [Rose no longer counts herself among them. when Father had died, it turned out that he had significant gambling debt and most of their estate went towards paying that off] Yes, I'm...don't laugh if I'm terrible at it at first. [but she knows Snow isn't that kind of person. and the rest makes her cheeks heat up in a blush] And...it's lovely to me, too.

[and she blushes even more pink. she's rather afraid that she resembles her namesake right about now] I, well...I'm glad to hear that I do. And, you are> special. You're so good and kind and beautiful. [and you bear what had to have been horrific treatment by your stepmother and remained good and kind, she wants to say]

I'm not going to laugh, I promise. If I do, it's only because we should both be having a good time. I like to sing, hum, or whistle while I work, that way the job gets done in a much more pleasant and quicker way! Sometimes I'll pretend that my broom is a dance partner and we'll sweep around the room! [Literally and figuratively.]

[At being called so many wonderful things, Snow White can only bow her head and blush.] Thank you. It means a good deal to hear it from you.

All right, that kind of laughter is entirely welcome! And...I'm much the same way, but with artwork. Not my own, I can't draw or paint to save my life! But the works of others. I like being able to focus on what an artist has to say through their work...at least what I think it is they're trying to say. But if you like, I can take you somewhere we can dance sometime?

[and Rose blushes, too] Well, I'm--I'm simply being honest?

Oh, yes! Let's dance together! I love to dance almost as much as singing. And most of the artwork in my old home were portraits of nobility or the former kings and queens. Oh, or tapestries!

Thank you, truly, especially for your honesty.

So do I, but I'm a fair sight better at dancing! We'll need to find somewhere which plays the music you're used to and I'm used to and dance all night! And, there's so much art to show, so much more. Perhaps we could meet at the library in Gaze and I could show you books containing the artwork? I think you'd love Monet and Degas in particular.

I..try to be honest?

I shall be happy to look at any paintings with you. I actually have seen one or two more modern ones. I was looking up something, I don't quite remember what, but... Oh, there was a painting in a picture book I saw, it was about a princess. And... oh, it was one of the most beautiful things. The princess had hair nearly as black as mine and skin almost as pale, but what made me stare at it for what must have been... well, I can't even say, was that her dress was one of the most beautiful blues I had ever seen in my entire life. It wasn't just that the dress was a pretty blue... The painting... the fabric looked so real in the picture book, Rose, I thought I could reach out and touch it and I was so sure I'd feel silk and satin instead of canvas. I wish I could remember the name of the painter, I'm sure you know them! But yes, let's look at art together, let us do all sorts of things together!

It's a good thing to try to be, I try to be too.

That's a lovely portrait. I wish I could remember the artist for I'm certain I've seen it before. But, I must say that the girl in the painting isn't--isn't half so lovely as you. However, perhaps someone would be willing to make a dress for you which looked like that? And we shall, we'll do all kinds of things together. I'd ask you to tea, but I'm still getting the knack of it, unfortunately. I do have wood-burning fire, which I'm far more used to.

Oh, wouldn't that be wonderful? You know Madam Generosity gave me a beautiful red gown, it was so lovely, but I AM very fond of blue too! I made my corset the same color.

And I'll make the tea, Rose until you learn how!

Really? Red would be so striking on you, given how black your hair is and how pale you are. And you'd get to still wear your hair ribbon. But, blue would be lovely on you, too. I have a feeling you're the sort of person who can make anything look beautiful.

You think so? I've no idea what would and wouldn't look good on me. But I do like red. But anything that lets me still wear my bow does make me happy! Oh, you make me feel all flushed! You're the one who could wear anything and have your beauty shine through! Your red hair alone is just so beautiful!

Yes, of course I do! And, if you like, we can go shopping sometime? Granted, my idea of modern fashion is a bit out of date, but you'd look amazing in some of the clothes I had from home. And...I do, too. But now you're making me blush! Thank you for...saying what you did.

I think your modern may still be much more modern than mine. I haven't really seen most of the fashion I grew up... anywhere. Many French styles, though! You know, if I may make a confession, I love your curls, they always looks so soft, and the way it falls around your shoulders, it's one of the many things I find stunning about you.

Perhaps, but there's this one dress in particular, it was a deep wine red with black beading and a small train. I wish I had that dress so you could try it on. And everyone knows the French are best at fashion. <small[and she winks]</small> Oh--and, really? Thank you. I'm...rather proud of them, actually.

Maybe it will wash ashore and we can restore it! Or if you can get me a picture or a drawing, I could make it! I've never tried my hand at bead-work, but for you, I would happily give it a try!

My hopes are for it to wash ashore, I'd never dream of asking you to take on such an undertaking. It was beaded from top to bottom, it would take months of work! [thoughtfully] Months of someone's work I did not appreciate at the time.
