[ The woman that appears is a - level expression, a little happy or sad that plays on her features. Level, most especially, as she clears her throat. Her veil tied around her head to tame her curls back, her shift and vest tying herself up neatly.

Peeking out from her veil is her lamp friend, and drifting around her in a circle is a soft finned creature, her Omen. Delicately colored in reds and blues as it swims in the air. ]

I find myself remiss, in how to make an introduction...

I am new to this place, this... city. I do not have much in the way of the coin, but I am skilled in other forms. I can sew, weave, till a field, clean, cast a line, or a net, gut a fish, help tend animals, both with birthing and killing, cook many types of meals...

But if you have need of anything repaired or cooked... please, if there is something I can do for resources in return, only let me know, and I shall be your glad servant.

Quite a distinguished title. [ Said without any apparent sarcasm. ] What do you prefer to go by?

Looks like you've already been caught up on the general workings of the city here. With that kind of skillset, you shouldn't have any trouble getting by.

[ Since there's always a demand for practical skills and manual labour. ]

Outside of livestock, what sort of resources or services might you need? I've noticed many of the houses here are in disrepair. How's yours holding up? I have some skill with carpentry and renovation should you require assistance in that area.

[ She presses her lips together and lowers her eyes with a polite nod. Reserved and stately, but old manners died hard. ]

I do need some repairs done. The doors do not hang quite right and... my bed is not as sturdy as I would prefer. The larder shelves are not all there either.

Lady Gilia. [ A dip of his head in acknowledgement. ] I'm KD6-3.7 — or K, as I'm usually called. [ Less of a mouthful than the full serial number. ]

All easily remedied and I'd be happy to help. I have the supplies. [ Carpentry in particular always seems to be in high demand, here, and he welcomes opportunities to further hone his skills. ] You mentioned sewing... Are you able to make hooded cloaks, by chance?

[ What a queer name, but perhaps, that was his people form of naming until they received their recognition in his community? ... But so late. The man was not young, he undoubtedly had to have a few spouses and children by now...

No matter. ]

[ A pause - a hooded cloak? ] Certainly. Is that all? I could fix you a surcoat or caftan against this cold too once I have the material?

I've yet to acquire a good cloak. [ Because he has a few coats; it hadn't really seemed necessary. But lately he's been thinking it might be time to start embracing more of Trench's local fashion. ]

Surcoat or caftan... [ He repeats thoughtfully, trying to picture what those are. A sort of tunic and robe respectively, he thinks, but isn't entirely sure. Reaching up to rub the back of his neck, he admits: ] I don't actually have anything like those, either. What would you recommend?

[ Needless to say, she's bound to be more of an expert on this type of clothing than he is. ]

Both are overcoats and protect your garments against the worst of the weather. It is best when they are made from something sturdier than so strictly ornamental since it seems we shall not be held to court.

[ Which is still #weird. What are they supposed to do when they are meant to petition? Who is going to help them appropriately distribute the harvest? ]

Surcoats are short or no sleeves and often fall to the knees or longer. They are best in lighter weather if you have no concerns against the cold, but are still good against rain. Kaftans fall below the knee with long, tight sleeves, usually, they do up the front. I prefer them for the long cold winters - indeed I am...

[ She steps back, moving her arms to open her body and show him something just the same, though hers is far more showey than anything more day-to-day. Embroidered, hung with pearls and other beads. It moves with weight and gravity.

And most of all, she is snug as a bug in a rug, not cold at all. ]

This is a more feminine style, of course, but I can make the cuts and adjustments needed for a hunter.

[ Unfortunately the answer to the latter is that starvation is a very real possibility in Trench, though there are some residents, K included, who work to ensure everyone's basic needs are met.

Oh — the demonstration certainly helps give him a better idea of the style, and he curiously examines what he can see of the detailing over the video feed. The pearls seem especially appropriate for someone called Daughter-Sea. ]

That's quite elaborate. [ A slight smile tugs at the corners of his mouth. ] It suits you well.

I don't know that I'd need anything so fancy. And the cold doesn't bother me, though it is nice to be warm if there's the option. [ Due to a combination of being an android and a Coldblood, extreme temperatures in either direction don't really affect him. But, like he said, it is nice being comfortable. ]

[ At least used to polite, nothing compliments, she bows her head in thanks. She could at least, be proud of her people for making it, even if she knew she was a poor model for such finery. ]

It is for the cold, yes, but it also helps keep your underclothes clean, not so muddy, and protect against general elements. But compared to a cloak, it leaves your arms free. A little better for day-to-day business, I find.
