[It's been a few days since dying, and Luz had unfortunately kept this to herself. If you haven't been able to tell, this girl has been having a pretty rough month, and it didn't seem to be getting better. She lurched her device to focus, and, though coughing, was looking directly into the camera].

So. Uh. Died. First time, ha ha, not a fun experience. Kinda looking for some company, here or just on this thing otherwise. I should probably be getting rest, yes, but staring up at the ceiling regretting stuff and hating yourself can only keep out the quiet for so long.

Also, been out of the loop a bit. Someone update me on things?

Luz was pretty sure that she was going to get an earful from people in the house, but ESPECIALLY from Ahiru, who had very much not wanted her to go on the mission. Luz had thought she could handle it and had handled somewhat similar situations before. Now, though, since they'd talked about it before, Luz knew it looked even WORSE.

Add the whole mix of self-loathing for being too weak to avoid death and the ever-present gloom of missing Fern and Varian, and Luz was pretty much a powder keg of emotions and blah. She was in her room right now, dimly lit with her purple lights and surrounded by a fort of stuffed animals and, well, Luz was a sight to see.

I can, Scorpia, and I did. Stupidly.

[Now she really DID want to see her friend. She hadn't said anything about her earlier post with Varian and Fern (which was fine, not everyone had time to be on the network) but she had missed her a lot].

Do you mind coming over?

[She shakes her head quickly at the word stupidly.]

I- I'll be there. Right away!

[She wastes no time just bolting towards Luz's home! And once she sees her, she'll just run up to her wordlessly and grab her in the tightest hug!]

[Yup, this was typical Scorpia. And it made Luz happy every time.

So when she saw her friend approaching, she didn't even hesitate and jumped into the girl's arms. She knew this was coming, and tight as it was on her poor back, she also relished it too].

It's good to see you again Scorpia!

[She just holds her as tightly as possible for a few moments, while letting out tears. Eventually, she whispers softly.]

Luz...! Luz, you're here. You're really here, a-and alive...

[Aw wow. So she was just happy Luz came back from dying? Luz couldn't help but tear up at at that and hug back even harder, burying herself slightly in the taller woman's neck].

Of course, Scorpia. Imagine me leaving you here-!

[She's torn up about everything that's happened. But above all, she feels such a heartfelt joy that Luz is alive and with them again.]

I... I don't know what I'd do if you didn't... come back. I already f-feel heartbroken that you... that you were g-gone to begin with. I'm so sorry, Luz!

Hey, hey, its ok! I am back! If it's up to me, I'm not going anywhere!

[It was hard to pose when you were being hugged by someone as tall as Scorpia, though Luz truly didn't mind. Scorpia hugs were great].

If anything, the dying was at least half my fault.

Th-that can't be true, Luz! [She says as she continues to squeeze her.]

Whatever happened, it's not your fault.

WE-ELL...

Basically it happened because there was this awful monster called Tyrant was unleashed on Trench. I was part of a team that were sent out to try and destroy it before it did any more damage.

I DID volunteer to be a part of that team, and decided to still go through with it even though Ahiru wanted me to stay home. It was right after Varian and Fern went back home.

Oh- oh no, Luz... [That sounds horrible. Nightmarish even! Scorpia winces at the thought, as fresh tears rush down.]

Y-you shouldn't have done. She was right, you should have stayed home, a-and... asked me to fight instead!

[Luz had never liked being underestimated, and with most people, Luz might have gotten angry. With Scorpia, Luz actually looked (and felt) genuinely hurt. She could take that from anyone else, but not HER].

You think I'd stay home while something like that was running around hurting people? And that I'd put the burden on YOU?!

[Really, she's just desperate to cling to any hope she could have had of saving Luz, of preventing that in any way possible. Even if she endangered herself.]

...N-no, not when you put it like that. But I'd stand a better chance, and I wouldn't... I wouldn't let you.... [She just sobs.]

No, Scorpia. You wouldn't have. I'm not saying this because I have a big head or anything. I wanted to fight because I could fly and have magic. There was NO WAY I would have tried to fight him on the ground. That's how strong it was.

[And Luz would have continued on, but Scorpia was crying, and the last thing she ever wanted to do was hurt her friend. She walked up to the woman and hugged her],

I'm sorry. I messed up. I was really sure I'd be able to fight that thing without having to worry. We had a crew, and a plan, but things still got bad. I have to get better, because I don't ever want to hurt my friends, or my family.

[She swallowed]. It's honestly been a really hard month, Scorpia. Probably one of my worst.

Oh. Y-you were flying and using your magic. That should have been good... You should have been safe.

[She says softly with a sniffle, as she hugs Luz firmly.]

It's not your fault, Luz! D- Don't blame yourself for that. The only thing at fault is... is that thing you were fighting. It's gonna be okay. From now on... things will get better.

That thing, it wasn't just a regular monster like the ones we've fought. This one came from a friend of mine's world. It was made to destroy armies, probably cities. That's why I wanted to help. If that thing got close to any of the Sleepers who don't fight, heck, even the ones that DO? It would only take an instant.

[Like with Luz, sadly].

I made a promise to one of my housemates that I wouldn't be hurt...so I broke that promise. I can't let myself off the hook for that. She was concerned because we lost three of our friends this month, our housemates. She didn't want me to be gone too.

I feel like I lied to her. In a way Scorpia, you're lucky. No one looks at you and thinks you need protection. People see me and even if I tell them I'm a witch or that I do magic, all they see is a little girl who shouldn't be fighting. So every time something like this happens, I feel like I'm proving them right.

[Scorpia holds her closer.]

Yeah, for me it's more when people hear me. [She says a lttke wryly. When people see what she's like, it's like they feel the need to protect her emotionally, if not physically.]

I- I guess that you are a kid, but I've known plenty of powerful kids. [Especially growing up as a soldier since childhood herself!] I don't think it's a lie, you just... can't tell the future. You couldn't have known things would turn around like that. And for every time you fall, Luz, there's a time when you excel and prove yourself! You're just gonna keep on learning and getting better. I believe it.... I know it.

"Hear you?" What do you mean?

[Who would say that? Who would think that...oh wait. She'd done this herself, hadn't she? When she hadn't told Scorpia some of the really BAD things that happened to her. Granted, Scorpia was taking this hard, had even suggested that she should have swapped herself out for Luz! Something, when she thought about it, she might say too.

Because that was the kind of person Scorpia was].

I knew a lot of powerful kids too. We came to Deerington the same time, didn't we? You were one of the first people I met! You know, a lot of people say I'm kind of a light for them, but I think you were mine.

[Luz always felt happier with Scorpia around. It was like what she felt when thinking about Amity, but it wasn't romantic. It was more that Scorpia was a reminder of why Deerington and Trench never killed her spirit. She got to know all these great people, and they made such a big difference in building her up and how much she cared about them].

You're right Scorpia. I WILL get better. I WILL succeed. And you know what? So will you. We lost some really important people to us, but we're still here, and still awesome!

You know, the way I speak and act. I guess because I'm really friendly, it can make people want to... protect me from bad stuff.

[She nods along. Her smile warms, and she hugs Luz tighter.]

O-oh. Well, if I could be thar light... if I could make your day brighter in any way... That makes me happy,

Exactly! That- that's the spirit. We are awesome! And we're going to keep on getting better. It's gonna be a lot harder for bad things to mess with us! I think we've got this.

I did that sometimes. I'm sorry Scorpia. I think a part of me just really liked seeing you happy. I didn't want to depress you with my sob stories, but I realize that's dumb. I'd want to know if anything sad were happening to you too, so I could try to make YOU happy!

[Luz laughed, the hug crushing and full of warmth, just like Luz had become accustomed. It was a good feeling].

I'm glad, because it's true!

Scorpia.

[Now Luz made a face].

Don't INVITE the karma. That's just bad juju!

[She was half joking, but ONLY half].

I... I guess that's something we can both try to do better at. [She grins.] I can be as tough as I look sometimes, Luz! You know you can talk to me about anything!

[At her joke, Scorpia laughs and gives a sheepish smile as she waves with her pincers.]

Okay, okay. Maybe I did go a little too far there. I officially rescind my bad juju-inducing comments!

You sure can! Besides, I don't like keeping secrets from my friend anyway.

[Not unless she absolutely needed to, which Luz didn't love. Keeping things secret usually tended to make things worse. Luz smiled].

Ha ha, good! But keep that enthusiasm! I think ours both together would be enough!

Right. Never really liked secrets myself. Let's keep the truths flowing between us!

[She laughs, and her tears are begging to fade.]

Got it! Let's keep that energy. That will really come in handy.

Right, exactly!

[Luz didn't like seeing Scorpia upset in general. Heck, SHE didn't like getting upset herself, but Scorpia was one of those people that Luz couldn't help but be attentive to.

That, and her Bonded, who have reminded her not to go to reckless from now on.

Now speaking of that-]

Hey, feel like cheering me on in a few days?

[She does feel relieved somewhat that Luz seems to be in good spirits now. There's nothing she can do to undo her death, but at least she's managed to be there for her now.]

Luz, I feel like I cheering you on during any anr all times. So yes, that can include several days from now! So should I wait outside your home at that time and cheer you on through your daily life? [She proposes that as if it's a completely normal thing to do.]

[Luz was trying to take dying as well as she could without getting TOO depressed. After all, earlier this month had really taken the cake].

Oh, no, I should have been more specific! There's a karate tournament happening in a few days, and I'll be in it. Just hoping to have some good moral support!
