cw: cannibalism kinda, underage sex jokes, brief nondescript ref to animal violence
Hiii everyone.
(Have an enthusiastic wave from a girl speaking in a perfected baby voice.)
My name's Jennifer Check and I'd like to put it out there that I'm now accepting human sacrifices. Sexual or otherwise.
(She smirks at her own joke, but really, she's starving.)
And I mean human specifically. I don't do that animal sacrifice bullshit. I'm not some psycho white boy who got turned down too many times by the pretty girl at school and who's weirdly obsessed with making Call of Duty half his personality.
(A big sweeping eyeroll. It's amazing how quick her voice went from Baby-Uwu to Frigid-Bitch. It's not a talent everyone could master, admittedly.)
Anyway. Is everyone around here a prude or something? I haven't seen any cleavage outside of my own in like a whole day. Holy shit. (...DRAMATIC REALIZATION...) Did I get kidnapped by the Amish...
(The last part is muttered to herself.)

[ If that's a thing in Terca Lumireis, it's taken a backseat to the myriad other stereotypes Flynn's had to shovel himself out from underneath.
The.
The knight thing, though, very visibly takes him aback, to the point where he stops walking and the background behind him goes still. He is somewhere in Crenshaw, houses clustered together like they're huddling for warmth against the iron-gray sky overhead.
Flynn blinks for a second down at the tiny screen. ]
I, ah.
[ What does he even say about that Goddess help him. ]
While there are certain Knights who took advantage of their status and the power their position afforded them, it's...
[ After a moment, Flynn frowns. ]
Well, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm working to change, honestly. Knights shouldn't be known for that kind of thing, but unfortunately, many of them are. Too long have they been entrenched in a system designed to serve and empower them. Many have forgotten what it means to be a knight at all.
That is, uh, I have never—I wouldn't.
cw: sexualization of minors
(She had spent her entire life suffering one long, never-ending existential crisis based around her looks and what it meant to her worth as a human being. She still remembered the first time she was cat-called. She had only been eleven.
Turns out sex-ed never taught little girls how they're supposed to deal with that. Or what they were supposed to do when it never stopped no matter what you wore or what attitude you had.
She doesn't know what soft spot she hit, but it's weird seeing a boy being emotionally vulnerable. It makes her - feel something. Hostile, almost, but not quite. Cautious?)
What exactly do you do to fight that? (She pipes her voice up high, her head tipping to the side. She's met guys like this before. Guys who insist they're "fighting the system." But then their version of fighting the system always just meant being loud and swinging around their arms in some stupid macho way that never did the suffering any good.)
Because, like, you know, if the knight thing is such a problem, why not make a new system not even attached to it? Why pick up something that isn't even working? What, just for the good parts?

I suppose you're correct about that. Yet another unfortunate reality I am trying to change.
[ He doesn't really sound pessimistic about it though. Tired, maybe. It's exhausting fighting so hard against a system that has existed for so long and been exploited by so many who help to keep it in place. Flynn is stubborn, and giving up isn't an option, but he is also...very tired.
Even though he smiles softly, shifting back into motion. ]
And my best friend would agree with you. He decided that he would be more able to help people outside the Empire, and left both the Knights and the Empire behind. He has helped countless people since then, and while I couldn't see how much he was doing at first, I'm glad he is able to reach out to those who need him in a more direct way than I can. Yuri has always been that way. I envy him for his determination in that way, but I don't believe that the entire system is beyond saving. I think it can be pulled back and made more equal, and if I can fundamentally change the way the Empire works, and replace unjust laws with ones that actually protect and serve all the people, not just the ones with houses and land and Council seats--that sort of change will have an impact on a great many lives, and hopefully last long after I die. That's the kind of change I believe in. That is what I have dedicated my life to doing.
[ Having finished his little speech--impassioned and clearly full of feeling--Flynn pauses, his expression going slightly sheepish. ]
The specifics matter slightly less as long as I'm here, I suppose. I can't very well enact sweeping reform from another world. I'll have to find another way to help the people of this world, if indeed they need that.
Ah, where are you? Your home, I mean. Wandering Cellar Door won't help me find it, I assume.

(Definitely.
She listens and to Jennifer's credit, she doesn't interrupt. Just actually soaks in whatever the hell he's saying. She does look bored at some point, gazing at her nails instead of the camera, but anyone with a sense of awareness would be able to tell she was still listening. She was just a teenager and didn't have the best Listening Face.)
So you're friends with the dude with the bitching locks? (Nice. She focuses on that before anything else.
She switches a leg over the other and leans back onto her hand, looking pointedly at the camera again.)
It takes like decades for laws to change and even when those laws change, it doesn't change how people think. Cause that's relying on other people to feel as strongly about the changes as you do. One person can't change a whole world no matter what stupid hippies will tell you.
(She rolls her eyes at the very idea of that being possible.)
Not everyone needs to be saved. What happens to your little dream then? (This is why Jennifer had selfish dreams, obviously.)
I'm in Cellar Door. Kinda towards the Boardwalk. There's a red light outside the building I'm in. It looks like a serial killer's hidey hole.

Nonetheless, I will fight. But, ah, yes. Yuri is my best friend. We grew up together.
[ And his affection is very, very clear: Flynn is sort of an open book about things like that. ]
And, really, that's... partially why Yuri and I are working on this together. I know very well that I will never accomplish the changes I'm looking to make alone. I need people to think the way I do, and that is going to take a lot of work. Possibly more work than restructuring the Knights, considering who makes up the Council—
[ But Jennifer! Doesn't need to hear him complain about self-obsessed nobles, he reminds himself, and presses his lips into a smile. ]
But, as you say, I'll have to find something else to do if I truly am to stay here. Like, perhaps, help your home look less like a serial killer lives in it. Unless that's the look you're going for.
