[Ezra has a Sword of Agency laid across his lap when he flips on the camera to his Omni. The very observant might note he's in one of the safehouses Ruby clued him into. He looks thoughtful.]

I've had enough time travel and other weirdness going on in my life for the last year that I wasn't sure how far off my count of subjective days might be. But I woke up to this sword, which gives off some pretty interesting vibes. So either my Blessed Day is a really random day, or it's my birthday.

I'm going with it being my birthday. Nineteen.

I've always pretty much hated my birthday, as long as I remember. Some of it's personal, but even the personal stuff is tied to the fact that the day I was born, the galaxy where I'm from changed, and not, in my estimation - and a whole lot of other people's - for the better.

There's no, like, cosmic or destined implications to the fact I was born that day, by the way. Not as far as I know. Just cause and effect, maybe. Stress can lead to early births, right? I'm just a kid from a backwater planet in a big galaxy. My parents weren't anyone important.

But sometimes my birthday felt like a curse.

None of that baggage came from here. I'd like to try to put some of it down, you know? [He peers towards a window.]

It's looking bad out there, but if you want to brave it, I've got a big pot of mushroom stew on, and I think I'm gonna see if I can get this thing to project a movie. Not exactly a dazzling party, but it's more than I usually celebrate. Some company would be great. Or just talk to me on here.

Any suggestions for a must watch?

No, but Vyng mentioned him has someone really good with machines when we were talking about whether I built my lightsaber myself.

Alchemy....is not something I much about! Not an angle I would have thought of! [Because it sounds like a terrible idea, but what does he know? His first lightsaber was also a gun.]

Grass sword. Just checking - a sword actually made of grass?

Oh! Oh yeah, he's pretty much the best at machines and alchemy. Alchemy's his favourite, but he's a genius with anything science. He's built stuff like interdimensional portals easy.

[He will never not gush about his boyfriend and how smart he is.]

Yup. They're as strong as regular swords, though. I can make 'em out of the grass in my body.

That's a new one on me. [Sincerely-] Neat.

Well. A traditional lightsaber is contained plasma, actually. Focused through a kyber crystal, which is semi-sentient and Force sensitive. So a lightsaber is not just a sword. It's a focus for a Force-user's connection to the Force, too.

Under Jedi tradition, the crystal picks who to bond with. The person seeking goes where the crystals are, which is inevitably somewhere strong in the Force, too. There's usually, uh - we call it a Trial, but vision quest is a good short hand for it.

Never heard of a kyber crystal before, but this is super useful, dude. I can pass it all along to V, I bet he'll understand all this.

[Probably? Probably.]

A vision quest sounds real... spiritual? Never really thought about some kind of spiritual connection with a sword, but I guess it makes sense to me.

Well, the Jedi are meant to be peacekeepers and defenders, if needed. Well, the Knights have been, traditionally. There's also been plenty of healers, and diplomats. Ecologists. Explorers. Sages.

[Fern chuckles a little.]

Dog, you're making 'em sound like everything under the sun.

Well, not individually. Collectively, over thousands of years of history? Sure, just like any other people or culture, they'd done lots of things.

Holy dirtballs dude, I didn't know they were around for that long. That's some staying power! No wonder they've done all kinds of junk.

Yeah, I'm trying to learn as much about that sort of history as I can. [To relight that staying power, hopefully.]

So. Uh. I didn't really introduce myself. I'm Ezra.

Yeah, I guess it is. [He doesn't seem very concerned, though.]

Pleased to meet you, Fern. So. Grass sword. Is this a magic thing?

Yeah, kinda! Before I was me I was swords, and one of 'em was a cursed grass sword made by a jerk of a wizard. It's still part of who I am.

Definitely a new one on me. But hey, none of us can help where we come from.

Man, ain't that the truth. One good thing about being stuck here is that you got the chance to be more than whatever junk that comes with wherever you're from.

Yeah. I haven't decided what all that means for me yet. But yeah. That's good.
