[ it's a dark and — well it's just a dark month and ahiru never really functions well in the dark. she gets spooked easily which is sort of what happens here. a sequence of events, by a duck.

1. she enters the kitchen. the lights are off and she bumps into various furniture. ]

Ow ow ow ow —

[ 2. her hand brushes against a coat hanging on top of a chair. in her mind, she imagines a snake.

3. She panics and lets out a loud: ]

Quack!

[ 4. ahiru ends up turning into a duck on screen. gasp! not that she has realized she's being recorded.

5. she quickly waddles off and there's the sound of water and she comes back into the kitchen with a relief. ]

— Phew that was clo . . . ooooose, O-Odette! Were you displaying this the whole time?! A-Ah!!

[ ahiru immediately runs in front of the feed, waving her hands frantically. ]

You didn't see that! There's nothing to see! It was . . . uh, uh, a MYSTERY DUCK that broke into the house but it's gone now!

[ alas, ahiru has been well and truly outed as . . . a duck. ]

[ ahiru goes beet-red but nods . . . slowly . . . ]

[ her expression falls. ]

Mmm. I don't know if Mytho being here would be good. He's . . . not well at home.

Right, yeah. Fakir did tell me that. I think he's trying to help him too.

At least Fakir is here though, right?

[ ahiru nods, heartened already. her melancholia doesn't last against fakir. ]

If anyone can do it, it's Fakir.

He does seemed pretty determined. Very dependable too.

I like him. He seems nice.

[danserai]

[ she perks up at this. very few people take to fakir easily, herself included, so it's nice to hear that. ]

He is! He's not always good at showing it, but Fakir always cares.

Oh no, I can tell! I have experience with people who act all gruff but are actually super nice.

In this place?

[ everyone ahiru has ever met has been so nice and polite . . . it hasn't clicked for her that this is abnormal. ]

The Boiling Isles were full of interesting characters!

Also, it's technically a demon realm too. Lotsa demons.

What's a demon?

You've never heard of a demon? They sort of look like monsters, but they're...well honestly, it depends. They kinda vary out here.

All those things are just in stories. I've never met anyone like that.
