[ it's a dark and — well it's just a dark month and ahiru never really functions well in the dark. she gets spooked easily which is sort of what happens here. a sequence of events, by a duck.

1. she enters the kitchen. the lights are off and she bumps into various furniture. ]

Ow ow ow ow —

[ 2. her hand brushes against a coat hanging on top of a chair. in her mind, she imagines a snake.

3. She panics and lets out a loud: ]

Quack!

[ 4. ahiru ends up turning into a duck on screen. gasp! not that she has realized she's being recorded.

5. she quickly waddles off and there's the sound of water and she comes back into the kitchen with a relief. ]

— Phew that was clo . . . ooooose, O-Odette! Were you displaying this the whole time?! A-Ah!!

[ ahiru immediately runs in front of the feed, waving her hands frantically. ]

You didn't see that! There's nothing to see! It was . . . uh, uh, a MYSTERY DUCK that broke into the house but it's gone now!

[ alas, ahiru has been well and truly outed as . . . a duck. ]

Yes, but besides light, what else can we do?

I don't know. Fern is gonna be pretty run down this month.

Maybe we go on a cool adventure with him when the sun comes back?

Oh! Like a knight's quest!

He's a knight. I'm sure he'd like to do that.

We'll yeah! Fern is a knight, so that makes sense!

He'll be into it once this nighttime stuff is gone!

With us working together, I'm sure we'll come up with something.

Well sure! Fern's always been really fun and cool to us, he deserves to be reminded how much we appreciate him being in the house!

Yeah! Or a gift like . . . custom armor or something!

I'm sure someone would know.

Like Mr. Reaper. Doesn't he wear armor?

[Luz had to stifle a giggle here. The idea of calling Reaper "Mr. Reaper" was just too funny].

That might be from his own world though.

But he probably knows more about it! I'm sure he'd tell us.

Yep, that's true. Maybe we need to find someone who specializes in it here, though.

Do you know anyone like that?

[ ahiru thought of flynn, but flynn is gone. ]

Um...I could ask my friend Korra. She might know.

[She hoped it wasn't too similar to what Asami would have done].

Okay. If it's not too much trouble. I could find her and ask myself.

Actually, maybe you should! You know who she is, right?

Uhm, I think she made a post about some people leaving . . . And she has a shop?

Yes, that's her!

Uh huh. Her girlfriend turned back into a squid. It was really sad. Those two were great together.

[danserai]

[ ah. ]

That happened to Mr. Flynn too. It must be hard.

I've had a few people lose their loved ones like that. It's awful.

I've lost a few friends like that too, and some people who were family to me.

[danserai]

[ ahiru pauses, taking that in. she's never really had people, but she could understand losing them. and yet. ]

But the love isn't lost. It's still there.

No, you're right about that.

And I'm still here, with you guys! You're pretty much my family now!

[danserai]

Mmm.

It doesn't matter how far apart we are. Love is a living thing.
