Hello. For those of you who don't know me which is- probably a lot of you, my name is Rey.

[ She pauses, chewing on the inside of her bottom lip briefly as she tries to think of how to proceed. ]

I'm wondering how those of you who are used to running for your lives, or fighting every day to survive have settled here. How you found things to be useful to the community.

I was a pilot and a scavenger back home, there doesn't seem to be much call for either of those things here.

So I was just wondering how others adjusted.

[ as much as there's nothing that seems unhuman about her at first glance, apart from the name. she still fights. still protects. still executes. it's the only thing she can think of that she's having both difficulties, overload, and silent euphoria about: human contact. it's not as if 2B conveys this blatantly through expression, though. she keeps her facial structure mostly neutral and her energy composed, but there's something there no matter how hard she tries to conceal it:

[ The numbers for a name give her pause, as does the following statement. 2B certainly doesn't look like a robot, at least not one Rey is familiar with. She regards the screen curiously. ]

[ This is honestly something that's been weighing on Sabé's mind for as long as she's been here. She's been a spy her entire life- it's really all she's known since leaving the conservatory when she was 14. ]

I... don't know that I've settled in to a comfortable routine yet. What I did back home doesn't exactly translate into something to do here either. But I've been doing small odd jobs here and there while I try to figure it out.

I've been doing the same, more or less. Focusing on creating my own space has been occupying my time, too.

I used to fix things sometimes, too. If they were worth more repaired and the parts were easy enough to come by.

Scavenging is still quite valid, I believe. Down the shores, in the empty houses, I do as much for scrap metal quite often.

[a pause and he settles on,] In truth I think being part of a community is an adjustment in and of itself. Especially one made of people from dramatically different cultures and values. It has come down to understanding what is most important regardless of our differences, which typically involves survival against the odd events here and corruption management.

What do you need scrap metal for? That used to be a lot of what I scavenged.

I think it depends on how much you want to deal with people and what your interests are. Places like the Orphanage and the Sanctuary have a wide variety of 'jobs' available.

I'm... not great with people. I'm good at building things, and flying. Fighting too, but it seems like there are plenty of fighters here.

I spent the first twenty years of my life as a hunter and scavenger. We did have to run for our lives at times when there were particularly terrible beasts.

When I became an adventurer, and then when I found the group that became like another family to me... it took a while to settle down. Looking over my shoulder for threats... it's hard.

But one of the things that I found to be most helpful was to find a group of people I could trust and ask their opinions on things. It's not as if I had no idea how to live in 'civilized' society, but there were adjustments to be made. Even if you can only find one person you can trust to ask those questions to, it's enough.

I was just starting to find people I trusted back home, here it's... like starting over from scratch.

Things will try to kill you here constantly. There's plenty of room for scavenging if you know where to look. We are, after all, living in a world millennia after it's death.

An associate of mine had a plane. I'm sure someone could try to build you one - or scavenge you one, if you'd still like to be a pilot.

Honestly, I try to make it feel as normal as possible. Before the Trench, in the previous iteration of this place, I taught at the local college. I bought groceries, came home, drank tea. A less healthy habit I gained was avoiding as many people as I could manage, something I'm still working on honestly.

What would you like to do?

[ Rey huffs a breath, shrugging her shoulders. ]

I have no idea. I've never even thought about it.

[ .. the more Daniel hears other people here speak, the more he's realising just how many people seem to come from crappy circumstances. And often such young people too.

It softens his heart, and it renders him unable to fully ignore this message. He's just too much of a dad at heart for it. ]

Well.. Do you want to still fight? [ Daniel would imagine not, since fighting for survival isn't quite a fun thing to do, but he's learned that you can never quite assume so easily with people who come from worlds beyond his own imagination. ] Or does having a different kind of life interest you?

[ That's a hard question because Rey enjoys her training and she's good at fighting. But would she have grown up that way, had her parents been different people, people who hadn't abandoned their child on a desolate planet? ]

I'd like to do something different.

I think you'll find having those skills are a lot more useful here than you think. There's always a need for things to be fixed.

I've coped by learning to behave myself. You kill enough people and it gains you the wrong sort of attention, so I've stopped doing that. But since you're a Jedi and therefore likely a good person, I'll wager you'll find some poor, pathetic person to protect soon enough.

I was a scavenger growing up, too, and then a fighter. Pilot sometimes, too.

I've been more focused on slow, incremental ways to try to improve things in general around here. Food, healing, teaching.

Oh, I have found it to be wonderful here! I can cook and clean and am very good friends with animals so I've been helping in that way.

But don't think your skills aren't useful here, you just have to rethink them!
