I wouldn't. Despite...my studying with Johnny, I know better than to provoke someone needlessly.

That sort of study is not a bad idea, but unless you're one of the Hunters yes. It's probably best to only engage if you have no choice otherwise. So many strange monsters in this place, one way or another.

I couldn't be a Hunter in a million years. I'm quite content to be an Arcane Scholar, though focusing on the Scholar part more than the Arcane. But I know that I'm fairly helpless compared to so many others, so I felt I needed something to at least attempt to level the playing field.

It's a good policy. I will certainly say that we need as many mundane as arcane scholars amongst the corps. Too easy for them to get lost in their lore, myself included.

And anything to help protect yourself, to know when to run and when to stand, helps to not need a Hunter or defender every time. It's a very good idea.

Yes, it's simply that everything is so different from home and I want to understand as much about it as I can. Which may be a fool's errand, but at least I recognize the possibility.

It is not a fool's errand, but know that learning everything is likely very difficult if not impossible for one lifetime. Still, the effort is good.

I think perhaps I know what you mean. You're trying to be pragmatic about this, yes?

Thank you. I think we're all at least somewhat curious about the whys and hows of Trench.

I am. She's very sheltered in a way and very world-weary in another. And I don't know if she's ever had anyone express interest.

Oh gods, but some of us are very very curious. There's a lot that we still don't know.

Ah, I know the sort. They don't even realize the interest is there until it's so full in their life that they're a little overwhelmed and unsure how to proceed?

I'm among those who are very very curious. I wish there were better ways to count on an audience with the Pthumerians or that we could guarantee that what was said was the full truth.

I suppose so? And I've had a relationship before, I don't think she ever has.

The Pthumerians are not prone to lying. I will say that much. Only Mother Mercy truly knows the meaning of deception, and even then it is usually through self deception and strength of belief, not intentional lies to others. It is less that they are lying, and more that their way of thinking is so alien that what they see as true is not how we view it. It's frustrating.

Oh that would definitely complicate things, yes. But if you're patient and listen, these things can be worked with.

That makes far more sense. And it's true, they're not all bad. I rather liked Argonaut, for example. He seemed genuinely kind and caring. Though, the Moss King can go straight to hell.

I hope so. She's worth trying for.

My view of Argonaut is a little darkly shaded lately, but I yield that it is not a malicious spirit. I just know hope has a dark side at times, whatever its intentions.

If she's worth trying for, then I absolutely wish you luck in this.

Without question. I have known several for whom this world is an improvement, even considering a few of the awful things that we see from time to time. It says more about the worlds we come from at times, or just the lives we had to live.

Perhaps it's both? It's certainly the case for me.

I certainly think that both is a perfectly valid answer to the question. Each of us is unique and with our own story, after all, like no other.

Well, there are bonds and a few pales have tricks that way, though I didn't when I was one. Either way, it's usually not something for us to know, not that deeply.

Keeps up the mystery, and that's half the fun. It's why my fiance and I haven't taken that kind of bond.
